Any update on the Charlottesville Super Charger?

Stayed there on 5/29 and no signs of progress.

Also surprised 4 of the front desk staff were clueless about it. I had to explain what Tesla was to two of them. :-/ I had asked if they noticed any contractors on site for it doing any preliminary work and got a deer in the headlights look.

North Corner, North of the Hotel?! So it will be in the smaller lot on the same side as the current destination stations? I thought that the larger lot on the South side made more sense, there is already a power transformer on the Southeast corner (Hydraulic Rd and District Ave, closer to US-29)

Northwest side:

Have you looked at charging options at your destination? A 20A 110V Nema 5-20 outlet is 60-80 miles overnight. Other level 2 options can be found at campgrounds as well. Also there is a few Chademos from OBX to Charlottesville area that can be "convenient" if incorporated with lunch/dinner plans until this supercharger opens. I used the Chademo in downtown Charlottesville recently and got ~120 miles of charge per hour. After a 1.5 hour dinner 175 miles of charge was more than I needed. The adapter is pricey at $450 but can be priceless on the right roadtrip with a family waiting.

Yes, the CHAdeMO adapter has been well-worth it to fill any remaining supercharger network gaps and to make trips and destinations more flexible. It is also slightly easier on the battery/cooling system. I've used mine dozens of times in the past couple of years.

When you say there is already a transformer there, I take it you mean that's a good place to tap into the same feed that goes into that transformer. Most likely that transformer won't be of the right kind, or big enough. The power transformers for Tesla 8-spot Superchargers are typically around 750 kVA capacity, weight 6,000 lbs, and deliver 480 Volts 3-phase. Typically a transformer for a hotel is going to be a so-called 208Y, delivering 3-phases of 120V-to-neutral, which produces 208 Volts between phases (which is why you see about 208 Volts on Tesla destination chargers at locations like the Hyatt Place).

That's right. Power lines there appear to be underground so the only visible sign of power availability is that transformer. Unfortunately I did not inspect for markings, that could have been there already last Wednesday when I took these pictures.

Yes, I generally prefer primitive camping with no one else around though, which usually means no power outlets.

I'm close to buying a Chademo for the C'ville and Staunton chargers, but also about to get a 100D which will reduce the need for that as well. If a supercharger wasn't coming, I'd have bought it already.

Yess! How long do you think it will take to be completed?

Hard to say. The bulk of the site work seems to go fairly quick on these (3-4 wks) but often the rate limiting step is the local power company making the final connections. I have seen this take very little additional time or months in some cases (Hamilton NJ if I recall correctly was painfully long).
