Just seems like such an odd thing to tell potential customers about the colours if it really makes no difference to the lead times or a customer deciding to purchase the car.
I'm sure they're genuinely trying to help, but whether a different colour will arrive earlier or later is a roll of the dice.
As I
posted in the Model Y waiting room Tesla will build a bunch of cars, work out which port they're going to and then allocate them to customers.
Black or white interior and the wheel sizes will of course muddy this somewhat, but let's focus on the exteriour colours for simplicity.
They do have an idea of the relative popularity of each config, so for a batch of 500 cars they'll build eg 260 white, 110 grey, 80 blue, 30 black and 20 red,
and then they'll look for orders to match them with.
You could be order number 259 waiting for a white and get one, or you could be 21st in line for a red and miss out in this batch.
At the end of the day, order the colour you want and don't stress about what might have been, because you'll never know if another colour would have arrived sooner or even later.
