Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

I'm also wondering if this means AP2.0 vehicles with FSD will be able to get dashcam support, which would be awesome (although losing AM/FM radio sucks). Also, does this mean those of us who pre-paid for FSD are now required to pay another $2500 to actually be able to use FSD *someday*, or will they make FSD work with MCU1?

Great there is an upgrade finally available! Question is would MCU1 be compatible with HW3? If it's not compatible, FSD purchasers shouldn't have to pay to upgrade the MCU to get FSD functionality.

Lookie here. It's not official confirmation, but we're hearing more and more about service centers telling owners a similar narrative... Maybe it will happen...

Let's hope it happens as part of the big code re-write that going on for AP.

Nawww, MCU1 folks that don't want to pay the $2500 will fall to the bottom of the list. But there will be a list. Then after Tesla makes a few extra dollars on those of us that "just can't wait", they will offer the upgrade to MCU1's for $1000-$500 - three years from now.

Remember how 40 to 60 battery size went from $11,000 to $2,000 after 4-5 years?

It should be. It was grandfathered in for life of the car if it was purchased before the deadline.

But the Tesla blog post mentions the cost for the upgrade. Very confusing.

What wording do you read that way? The way this is worded makes it sound like you get more visuals if you upgrade to MCU2:

Under driver assistance. Basically confirms mcu and fsd are linked. The way this is worded, enhanced visualization, they will definitely be creating a branch of FSD for mcu1 cars

Definitely you get to keep premium connectivity. Only CPO/Used buyers don't get that and will have to pay $2500 AND then $10/mo.
