My take is that the value of CPO cars just increased ... and that they are grandfathered into the lifetime SC plan.

So, what do you guys think about how this news might affect the CPO program (bolding mine)?
Tesla to introduce new ‘Supercharger Credit’ system to reduce entry price of Model S & X
Sources familiar with the program have told Electrek that Tesla is about to introduce a new Supercharger Credit program to unbundle the cost of Supercharger access from the vehicle and consequently, lower the entry price of the Model S and X while ensuring that the value of the Supercharger network is better represented by the pricing model. The update could coincide with the release of OS 8 or 8.1.

Do you think Tesla will implement this on the CPO cars? So if I buy a CPO Tesla after this comes out, do I now have to also enable supercharging, whereas if I bought today, I wouldn't? Or would they grandfather the old cars? If they are really trying to unbundle, I could see CPO cars being sold without lifetime supercharging included. Man, this CPO buying process just got a lot more stressful.

And here today I was about to remove the "Supercharger Enabled" filter column on EV-CPO.com and replace it with "Ludicrous enabled". In all records stored on EV-CPO, only 44 cars out of about 6500 don't have SC enabled, so it wasn't really useful anyway. No currently listed cars have it either.

I'll still make this change to Ludicrous, but at least I know that at some point I may need to put "Supercharging enabled" back in if Tesla starts to make it an option for CPO/Inventory cars.

At the bottom of the information screen, it states Unlinked option codes X009..what does this mean please?

Nobody knows. I've tried unsuccessfully many times to get an answer from Tesla about what that option code means. I think it has to do with the power folding mirrors, like the car has the wiring harness for them, but not the mirrors or the PFM switch. But that's just a guess, I have no idea, really.

Anyone have contact info on a good CPO specialist. My guy Earnest in NJ left the company.

Richard is awesome! I'll be taking delivery of our 3rd Model S in 2 days. We would tell him the colors and options we wanted and he found the exact car we wanted every time! He would normally give us several options to choose from. Interestingly, we searched the various inventory sites and the lists he would give us usually contained multiple cars that were NOT on the inventory sites.

Our latest 90D was in NY and was transported here to OH. It arrived Friday and we will take delivery in a couple days after they install the Spoiler and All-Weather Mats we wanted added. First stop after delivery is the XPEL dealer to get the front end covered in the XPEL Ultimate material to protect it. I became a firm believer in the XPEL after I had it applied to my first Model S and within a week hit a road sign while traveling down the highway! Some how a speed limit sign was laying in the middle of the highway, the truck in front of me ran over it and it went airborne, they way it was floating in the air I actually thought it was a piece of paper - until it hit the front of my car and bounced up and also hit the hood before bouncing back onto the roadway! I had a sick feeling in my stomach as I pulled over to check the damage only to find that there wasn't any! I was amazed because the sign hit pretty hard. I could tell where it did impact since there were marks on the XPEL film, but nothing damaged the paint or plastic underneath and most of the marks on the film came off when I washed the car. I became a real believer in that stuff after that! If anyone is in OH and looking for a shop that does a great job at an great price let me know.

Anyway, if you are looking for a good CPO specialist, Richard is great, he can get the car delivered right to your door. Tell him Mike from Dayton sent you his way and he'll take good care of you.

If Tesla ends up lowering CPO prices while unbundling Supercharging, that may provide a marginal benefit to those of us in states which charge annual vehicle "license" fees based on the vehicle sale price. Plus there's the time value of money. If I'm eventually going to spend $2500 on Supercharging either way, I'm better off spreading it over time and not being taxed on the $2500 every year.

Myblubu - We will be picking up our 2014 P85 CPO in Columbus. We are thinking about doing Paint correction, Opticoat Pro, and window tinting for sure. I really want the Xpel wrap but my husband fears it will take the paint off if it is ever removed. What shop do you recommend?
You have the P85 that I was looking for, except for the cold weather package. Did you buy new or CPO?

Based on how Tesla handled the Supercharging question before, I don't think there will be a change if they uncouple SC-ing from new cars. There are CPOs available right now that weren't SC-enabled at the time of purchase (early S60 models), and Tesla enables it for all CPOs. They also flipped the switch on all 40s to make them 60s. If you think about it, it seems to make sense financially for them: You buy 40 or non-supercharging car, use it, then trade it in and Tesla pays you for the value of that car. Then, essentially for free, they can increase the value of the car with a software update. I would not be surprised to see all of the 60/70 cars become 75s in 3 years when they are on the CPO market.

I think the only reason they wouldn't enable supercharging on CPOs is if they are concerned with overcrowding once the 3 is delivered.

Yes the P85 was preowned, purchased it after we bought our first new 90D.

Clear Bra of Ohio is the shop that did my XPEL on my cars, they also do the other treatments too (Opticoat, etc.). I shopped around for prices and reviews on most of the XPEL certified installers with lots of experience according to XPEL. They had the highest reviews and offered a great price. I'm very picky so the reviews honestly meant a lot. I wouldn't have considered it regardless if price had I seen bad reviews.

The owner is Keith Handorf (937) 271-8366. I spoke to him at length before deciding what I was going to do as I was in my "information gathering phase" and he took lots of time to explaIn everything. I was impressed with his customer service, but more so by his attention to detail and workmanship. I told him how picky I was and he personally did both of my Model S cars. Both jobs were flawless. I was impressed, and that's not easy to do.

Tell Keith that Mike from Dayton sent you his way and he'll take good care of you. I've told him that he should give anyone I refer to him he same level of service (there's nothing worse than referring someone to have them come back to you and complain!). So far, all my friends have been impressed with his service and prices. His shop is not in Dayton, but it was worth the drive for me.

XPEL can be removed with no problems, it won't damage the paint. Also has 10 year warranty, etc. in talking to my Teala service rep, he says thy remove it all the time from trade ins. They remove any additional items from cars before putting them in the CPO program. He said they return them to how they left the factory. They remove radar detectors, film, wheels, etc.

Talk to Keith about all of the protection options. He'll give you the "straight scoop".

Hope that helps!

They could unbundle Supercharging from CPOs to gain extra revenue. Your choices: pay the $2000 (or whatever fee) for unlimited Supercharging or just go with the prepay for use system. Either way Tesla gets some additional revenue to fund the Supercharger network and all cars have the range advantages of being able to Supercharge.

If Tesla is unbundling Supercharging from the Model 3, why not do the same for CPOs as well? Just guessing, I don't know what Tesla will do.

I wonder if one (YFCC or YFFC) is the integrated center console w/ rear cupholders and the other is the same w/o the rear cupholders?

Woah.. ok, I missed something. The original post said:

Any one know what option YFFC is?

Model S 70D 5YJSA1E2XGF136279 | Tesla

The code YFFC *is* valid for Integrated Center Console. It just doesn't display properly on that detail page.

I can't find any cars with the YFCC code, which is currently undefined.

There are lots of other cars with the correct YFFC code that properly say "Integrated Center Console" on the detail page... like this one:

Model S P90D 5YJSA1E44GF143486 | Tesla

So this looks more like a strange bug on Tesla's page for 136279 than a missing code.

Thank you soo much myblubu. I just browsed their website and I'm overly impressed. Since we will have the same Grey Metallic P85, what all did you get done with yours? I think I have issues imagining what the final product will look like. I'm terrified of the entire CPO process...sight unseen. I've heard good things about the Columbus service center though. Okay - I'm just working myself up for nothing. I'll calm down now *smile*

Just a little off topic here but I think this will pertain to most of the folls that view this thread. I've read numerous times CPO cars are not eligible for the Extended Service Agreement (extended warranty). My buddy that bought his Model S CPO about 2 years ago has been racking up the miles fast and was approaching the +50K mark. I told him he was out of luck to extend it and should get anything done that wasn't 100% ASAP. The SC told him that if he wanted to buy the ESA he needed to do it before crossing over the +50K threshold. He called me and informed me that I had heard wrong about CPOs and the ESA. I told him I was sure they were wrong and would soon find out the bad news when they attempted to process his order. This afternoon he successfully bought the $4k ESA and even has the receipt for it. He wants to lay low for a week or two just to be sure everything gets processed back at Fremont but said he would post on here his experience. Has anyone else heard of being able to buy the ESA on a CPO? He has a 2013 and bought it CPO with @ 11K on the odometer. Did I some how misunderstand some of the posts about CPO and ESA?

*****UPDATE on ESA for CPO*****

It's been two weeks since my friend reported that the SC sold him the ESA "Extended Warranty" on his 2013 P85 CPO. He has confirmed that Tesla in no way has questioned or cancelled the ESA and he has th4 receipt for the purchase in hand (or email, I'm not sure which). He is at 49k or so miles on his CPO and bought it when it had @ 9871 if my memory is accurate. Anyway....it appears to be a legitimate sale and he will have coverage to 109K.

He isn't worried about me revealing some of the info now that a number of days have passed. He bought it at the Denver SC and was $4k. His car has been confirmed as a CPO (versus new or inventory). This could be a change of policy, a mistake, a foot in the door etc. Please report back what others find. Let's hope it's a change of policy. I'll be mtn biking with him Thursday so I'll try to get additional details.

This would be awesome, as it is one of the one things that I don't like about CPO'S. Heck, just warranty the low mileage ones to 100k, and I'd be happy.

@Wshowell,

Let us know what you find out. This is definitely good news and I hope is a change in Teslas Policy for CPOs. It would definitely add tremendous value to the CPO program. Many of the CPOs the warranty would be up in 4 years after purchase and you're then left without a warranty. To be able to extend this and keep coverage would be phenomenal.

Do you know if he ever saw the option to buy it through his Tesla Portal? Or if this was only offered in person at the SC?

No Problem! I think you are worrying over nothing - everything I've seen and from what I've heard talking to the Service Rep is they take every step necessary to return the vehicle to the condition it was in when it left the factory - the only bad thing is they will remove things the new owner may want. While I understand the liability/warranty issues around that, just seems like a waste. He told me that the techs drool when they see a trade come in with the $2,000 radar detector system built in, knowing that it has to be removed - guess where it ends up??? ... Ever wonder how lots of Techs have top of the line equipment in their cars? LOL

Service on both of my vehicles has been equally outstanding from the service center in Blue Ash - I don't think you will have any problems with the service.

Anyway, Keith at Clear Bra Ohio talked me through several options and instead of just selling me stuff over the phone, he wanted to actually see the car before making final recommendations. When I got the vehicle and took it to him, he was impressed with the condition the paint was in and all we ended up doing was the Xpel film. He was able to point out a couple fitment issues with the bumper that I would have never noticed - So I had the service center address those on the first service visit. He also noticed a couple of scratches i put in the paint of my new car and removed those before applying the Xpel to that one. He then gave me an education on how to properly wash/dry the car - I had been doing it all wrong all these years! The method he taught me is much quicker and easier and gets great results without scratching the paint!

I did the same Xpel treatment for both cars:
  • Full front bumper/nose cone
  • Headlights & Fog Lights
  • Partial hood/fenders
  • Mirrors
  • Rear bumper/trunk area (to protect the bumper when putting things into/out of trunk)
  • Door Handle inserts (to protect from fingernail scratches when opening doors)

Here's a pic of the finished product. Let me know if you want to see pics of the installation process - I took pictures throughout the process.
