Camping Trailer Selection for Model X

We ordered our Safari Condo Alto R1723. Caravane Alto 1723. We will get it in May 2016.

Now all we need is our MX. Delivery Specialist at Tesla keeps tell us that we will get our invite to configure very soon.

That looks like the best travel trailer I have seen so far. The specs, options, weight, layout and aesthetics are outstanding. I wonder if they would build it with Li-ion 12 V house batteries instead of the lead acid ones at 54 lbs each? If not it still would be possible to swap them out after delivery, using batteries that are designed to be drop-in replacements for car starter batteries from A123 or other Li-ion manufacturers.

It also would be cool to switch the electrical system from 30 A 120 V to 50 A 240V and install a 14-50 or a hard-mounted UMC on the camper.

I agree- constructed from single sheets of aluminum, just like the X. Very light, and a great drag coefficient. It says it sleeps 3-4, but I can only see 3. A queen in the back, and a single in the front.

There is an option for a bunk, per the below screen captures from their instruction video on their website.

Oh, very nice. Thank you.. I missed that. It's tempting. What do you guys do with these trailers when not in use? My garage is full. I'd have to rent a storage facility for it. Probably best for me to just rent one.

This looks like a decent option for a hard-sided A frame trailer. Just under 2000 pounds dry and empty. They have other smaller options as well. Thoughts?

On the trailer itself, or how it will tow/affect range? On the latter, it looks about the same size (though lighter) than my High Wall rockwood. I believe I shared the wh/m usage with that... not pretty. Could be the width as well as the height, but I'm going to try it again when we get 20's on

I love this thread and the thought of camping with an X and trailer --- looking at that LiFePo battery pack above has me drooling. My 3 kids (the oldest now in University) grew up from babies to teenagers camping in the backwoods of BC, from a tent, to a 15' trailer, to a 19' trailer, until I bought a cabin on a lake and sold the trailer (with a porta-boat mounted on the side). When I posted it on Craig's List and sent the listing to my kids, one of my daughters replied "aww... so sad", and my wife replied "yahoo" (I'm not sure she enjoyed it as much as us!). We made so many great memories. If you ask my kids what my favourite movie is, they will tell you RV! (family type movie that is, of course). Reading this thread, I have myself thinking about a Model X and one of those great trailers, until I come to my senses...

We are also eyeing a 16 ft airstream Bambi. I'm sure any info you can share about your experiences with it will be helpful (range, wh/mile while towing, destination experiences, the towing experience, etc.) Thanks.

I got Vin on April 19, got all from DS to expect mid june delivery. I will try to tow my 16' bambi as soon as get the car.

From what my research, it only gives about half milage when towing, so that is about 100is miles when charged 90% full for a 90d. We have to plan the distination within 100 miles. I plan to charge tesla at the campground over night. Usually RV park has 4 outlet, see photo below
RV Park Supplies

Airstreem use a 30 Amp (TT30R) plug. I can plug tesla to the 50 apm nema 14-50 at the same time.
