Wiki Model S Delivery Update

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
Speculation: Current Model S delays result from a software bug that causes spontaneous opening of the trunk while vehicle is stationary....
I have an LR on order - and no, will not upgrade to Plaid... but living vicariously through those of you that do have Plaid orders. Could it be that they are reworking those trunks to incorporate the active spoiler? I know it is highly unlikely and also recall some of you loved it and others hated it. Perhaps it becomes an option added to the Plaid configurator and a limited number are shipped to employees/VIPs in June with the active spoiler. Just a bit more speculation!

Also, I may have mentioned this before... I previously heard rumors of an integrated trailer hitch with a cover. Here is the article; yes an older article (April 5), but don't remember seeing anyone post about this.

Oh... and to stay on topic... my latest status:
RN1142 White/Black LR with Arachnids. Order date = Dec 12.
Originally 8-12 week delivery
During initial May website update changed to June 1-30 delivery.
Now blank.

It's unlikely they can squeeze much more performance than sub-2-second 0-60 on street tires (which is why the Roadster is said to have CGTs).

Can someone please explain to me how the SpaceX package with the air thrusters could ever be street legal? It sounds like a great idea for a track only car and for promoting the highest performance car of all time, but I don’t see any way this can be street legal. Elon is making this stuff up as he goes along without any input from regulators.

I don't think he's thinking about regulators, and as the old saying goes, there may be a speed limit but there's no law about how fast you get up to it*! I'm sure he told his engineers he wanted it FASTER and they said "but Elon, tires can't..." so he went totally totally off script with it. Personally, I love the "nothing is off limits" thinking, but I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't at least a popup that says "This should only be not be used on public roads", or even possibly geofencing.

*Unless you're being patently unsafe and, for instance, drag racing in a school zone.

I'm able to get to my account page that has no graphics and the price is down $2K which is the discount that was offered to me upon accepting the refresh. Ordered Jan 28th RN1144. Blue/Black LR with Arachnids. Anyone else seeing that? Delivery says "July" now, previously "-" for the last week or so. The games continue.
My 1/1/21 order does NOT show the $2,000 discount yet. Very odd that yours does.

Just based off rumors in the past and the new twitter hype, I'd speculate and agree that there is going to be a range boost for both models. Let's hope we find something out June 3rd! People in the know seem to definitely think Tesla has been sandbagging some of the specs.
This could also explain why the owner's manual has not bee updated.

Only slightly off topic, but definitely applicable to anyone purchasing a car as fast as the new Model S in California.

In California you can certainly get a ticket for accelerating too quickly even if you never go over the speed limit.

Exhibition of Speed California Vehicle Code 23109(c)

According to California Vehicle Code 23109(c), it is illegal for you to accelerate or drive at a rate of speed that is dangerous and unsafe in order to show off or make an impression on someone else.

Prosecution for Exhibition of Speed in California

The prosecution must prove several elements beyond a reasonable doubt in order for you to be convicted of this crime. These elements include:

  1. You were driving a motor vehicle on a highway (this includes any area publicly maintained and open to the public for vehicular travel);
  2. You were speeding or accelerating in a dangerous or unsafe manner; and
  3. You did so intending to show off or impress someone.

Yeah, I hope noone is expecting this feature to be usable on the street. It is likely to be restricted to track use.

I have owned or currently own:

2016 P90DL
2018 Model 3 LR
2019 Model 3 Standard Range Plus
2020 Model Y Performance
2021 Model Y Dual Motor

Every single car has had significant rattles with the exception of my 2021 Y. I don’t know if Tesla is improving or if it just hasn’t been long enough for them to become noticeable. I took my Model S in to the service center multiple times for this issue and they could never permanently fix the rattles. Some would go away for short periods of time but return promptly. Every other car also has its fair share of squeaks and rattles. My solution has always been to turn up the radio since rattles in a relatively silent EV are quite obvious. I’m hoping the new noise cancellation technology in the refreshed S helps with this recurring problem.

I’m curious what Tesla you owned that didn’t have rattles and how long did it remain rattle free?
3 thus far: 2016 Model S LR (written off in an accident), 2017 Model S LR and a 2020 Model Y. None have had rattles and only 1 problem between all of them - a rear camera that needed replacement on the 2017 Model S (replaced under warranty).

Preach; 1986, Redding California, crossing the Cyprus Street bridge heading west. Roasted my tires, never exceeded the speed limit, got charged with this offence. The best part is my insurance doubled, as a teenager, it nearly made it so I couldn't afford to drive. It was a higher insurance premium than a DUI.

IF the new Roadster is smart enough to drive itself, it would certainly have enough cameras to look around and see if it was safe to use the thrusters.

My LR order has been pretty steady at end of June for CA delivery, ordered in January

But I don't check every 15 minutes, so I may have missed some changes. Mostly waiting to hear from Tesla, like I would with any other company instead of hitting refresh constantly....

My favorite part of this forum is the repeat topics...it is like watching a live episode of Lost. For anyone new that doesn't want to scroll through 1538 other pages:

-Your SA is wrong. Always. Do not trust them. Do not trust what anyone here says they heard from theirs. Do not let any of that information drive you to have any emotion, or take any action. Those conversations are for entertainment only
-The Yolk will be there. It is on the ones in the lot, there is not an NTSB thing, it is real
-The website is garbage. It will update, change, give you a car on blocks, give you a "-" or "blank" or "date range" without warning and without meaning. Nerds making the website have no bearing on your actual delivery date, which at this point, no one knows for sure...not even King Elon
-The date you ordered likely has as much bearing on your delivery timeline as the 3rd letter in your middle name. They are backed up and are going to push as many as they can, to the most people they can, as fast as they can. That means sacrificing what you think is fair. Will be awesome for some, *sugary for others
-There is a bootleg spreadsheet we are using to track orders of the members of the page...it is fun, and another way to speculate and pontificate and yell at one another
-The tax break is very unlikely to affect MS orders...it has not been looked at by Ways and Means since it was dropped to them on Feb 3, and will likely be to incentivize normal mortals to buy lower end EVs. Not superheroes buying top-end bad-assery
-When you are mad and want to cancel your order, say something about the Porsche Taycan...it is the first alternative to the MS apparently, and spins everyone up for about 3 pages of posts
-Tigers is getting a red MS....he may be the only one
-Sam comes in every 10 days, drops insider information and then vanishes like batman
-El Guapo will correct any engineering, production, website code or other technical post on here...I'm fairly certain he is a cyborg
-sflgator will be super mad at you if you get your car before him and ordered after him. the "sfl" is "south florida"...if you get your car before him, don't tell him
-Hayseed's dog icon will cheer you up regardless of how mad you are at what someone else has said

Let me know if I missed anything, team. This forum is the best part of my day. Recommend we keeping it open after we all start getting deliveries and find something else to *sugar on. On a serious note...if Elon said they will be pumping out 2000-2500/week, and Plaid is going to start going on June 3, it shouldn't take SUPER long to clear the backlog of those and move on to the LR, right? Discuss...
Hey, I am getting a red one too. So you haven’t done all your homework and may have missed a page or two. We have enough drama here for someone to make a movie.

My June 1 to June 30 changed to blank a few days ago. It seemed like mine stayed quite a bit longer than others. Then yesterday changed to Estimated Delivery “-“. Can anyone say how long it took for there account to update to a 7 day window after this happened?
Dude… My status keeps cycling between a date, empty, ‘-‘, “Prepare for Delivery” more times in a week than Elon tweets about Doge! There is no science or crazy algorithm behind all this. We believe these are all doings of Elon’s Neuralink monkey.

Its so bizarre. I never had the "-". It was blank for months then showed 6/1-6/30. Can't recall exactly, but less than a week later it shows 6/21-6/30. I ordered back in November.
