Wiki Model S Delivery Update

An overview of 2021.32.10, if anyone hasn't seen it by now. Betting rn that @AnselmDante will have a comment about this guy's intro.....🤣

"Immersive sound. That is cool, lets go check that out".

Proceeds to browse SiriusXM stations and never looks at the immersive sound settings.

Alright, done chewing this guy apart.

He really should have just started off with "Alright, alright, alright". I would have given the rest of the video a pass.

Nameless getting his first feeding (by me) at the Lynnfield SC:

I'm planning to go with a lighter blue wrap. If you have a blue MS, you know the color that the picture of your car is on the dash screen? That's pretty close to the blue I'll be using.

After about 300 miles I have not yet made peace with the directional controls, and that's pretty much the sole gripe I have about this work of art they call a car. I printed out the pre-delivery checklist and went through as much of it as I reasonably could in the rain, and found basically nothing wrong. Panels all look perfectly gapped (to my untrained eye anyway, but any time I saw something questionable I was able to just check out a nearby Raven for contrast, and it all compared equal.)

The floor and hatch mats were missing, but that seems to be for all the S's and they promised to mail them to me as soon as they come in. I stole my wife's M3 rubber winter mats to hold me over. Pretty decent fit, actually.

Never floored it on day one because we got about 1.5" of rain that day, but day 2.... definitely an OMG feeling. And it's not even a Plaid. I have trouble imagining how the Plaid can put any more force on the road than Nameless can without spinning the wheels! But that's probably because I have a limited imagination.

The yoke took about 10 seconds to get used to, if that. I love being able to rest one hand over it while the other hand does most of the driving. When I'm not flooring it, that is. Which hasn't really been very often yet.

I think there's a slight trace of the worm on the yoke. If I don't squint and stare at it, I don't see it. If I didn't know about it, I'd NEVER have seen it.

The thing that freaked me out the most was the synthetic rumble strips feature (lane departure haptic feedback). The first time I felt it, I wondered what was wrong with the suspension. The second and third times, I thought, "Wow, this car is wider than I thought, because it's rolling over those rumble strips I can see in the road that look like they're about two feet away from the car." After a few more times, I put it together. I did not recall reading about them in the manual. This is actually great, because I'm seeing how much I've been favoring driving with more clearance to my left than my right, which probably explains all the damage I've done to my passenger-side rims over the years. After 4 or 5 warnings for being too far to the right, I figured out a few visual cues (the right-hand lane marking should fit right into THAT part of my Escort 360's edge...) and have already improved my lane positioning considerably.

Speaking of the Escort 360, is anyone else getting a "High voltage warning" from it after parking? Seems to happen consistently.

Really loving one-pedal driving. No more sweating a smooth stop. Let Nameless take care of it. Nice.

Still getting a rise out of the auto-presenting door handles as I walk up to the car. Just brilliant.

A software update just happened a few minutes ago (to 2021.32.10 I believe, it disappeared from my phone as I was looking at the number to report it here.)

Sound system: Excellent, not disappointed at all. Is it AS good as in the M3? Too close to call. I was worried it would sound awful after all the complaints, but with windows all down and barreling down the interstate, it sounds great. The bass seems to emanate from the lower front round door speakers quite nicely. Not lamenting lack of a sub, if there isn't a dedicated one. I guess those speakers are the subs.

Last night I took Nameless out to see how the headlights were, especially the adaptive feature (where they're supposed to pivot in the direction of a turn, or at least the light should pivot.) I could see ZERO adaptive behavior. This was a bummer. My '09 Boxster did it, and my '18 WRX did it. I thought the S is supposed to do it with some kind of solid-state tech? I searched for a switch in the lights section, but nada. What's the story there?

The seat backs could use pockets. I do love the entry/exit mode for my seat, I've set it to lift me up a bit before egress so i don't have to work so hard to get out and back in later. Niiiice.

Forgot to put my EZ-pass transponder in before a trip to Maine yesterday, so paid cash. You know, these days the cash lines can sometimes actually be faster than the EZ-pass lines! (Because there are so many more vehicles going through with transponders.) But I put the EZ-pass in anyway. Interesting observation: I like to position the transponder so it is directly behind the rear-view mirror from my driver's position (invisible to me). But in the MS, that puts it way over into the passengers field of view if you're not careful! It took a bit of trial and error to put it the least amount in the passengers' face.

Well, congrats to everyone who has sprung for one of these (or its big brother), I can definitely see why it was named Car of the Century or whatever that was. Thanks to everyone on here, I knew it would be amazing, and of course have not been disappointed. It really helped to be able to participate in deprivation therapy here for the past year. While I ordered in December, I'd made the decision to get one several months before, and was trying to time my order to skip the very early first wave and let the line settle down a bit before they built mine. From what I can tell so far, I could not possibly have timed it any better.

Someone with way more knowledge can jump in. But from my understanding they are called "matrix" lights (blue pill, always). And there is an extra LED that illuminates when you turn the steering apparatus in the direction of the headlight or if you engage the turn signal. That is the extent of the "adaptive" headlights. We (@epotter and I) noticed it a few weeks back and looked at. It does not turn and follow the degree of the steering apparatus like you would think of other auto-brands. But there is a separate light that will illuminate the direction as you turn or signal to turn that direction.

What’s the consensus of this group, re the gen 2 HPWC vs the gen 3 WC? It seems like a gen 2 is better than these newer gen 3 ones - that seem lower quality and less capable, save for the WiFi capability. Thoughts?

Full disclosure - I’m in the gen 2 camp, and just added a second load sharing gen 2 to my garage.
Can you explain less capable, the forum could be a black hole sometimes in regards of miss information.
