The tax credit for home EV charging stations is limited by the AMT. Were you actually able to claim the credit on your taxes? I would think most Tesla owners wouldn't qualify (or more accurately that the credit would be reduced to zero because of the AMT).
I haven't filed my 2016 taxes yet, so I'll let my accountant sort that out, but I guess I didn't realize that Form 8911 didn't sidestep AMT the way the $7500 credit does. Thanks for the point out! While I may have decided to opt for a lower amperage install to my garage without the tax break, the difference in cost was about between a 50A and 100A install was $150 so I'm not torn up about the expense. I'd certainly love to get 30% of my install costs back as a tax credit, because money is money, I don't need it.

As for most Tesla owners not qualifying, that may be true to some extent but it looks like a CPA chimed in on the matter saying that people making over $600K would be able to use it. While I certainly don't fall into that category, I bet there's a large minority chunk of Tesla owners that do.

Wow, you will probably get your car before Christmas as well. My car was built 12/13, and I wonder if they will hold on to my car, and put both cars on the same truck? I WANT MY CAR NOW!
Yeah, I saw yours go into production on the spreadsheet and was totally hopeful that mine would go into production the same day but alas! My Delivery Specialist expects me to be able to pick up between Dec 23rd - Dec 27th depending on how long my car sits before transport. I hope for your sake that they drop yours off on the way to Colorado with all the CO cars that just finished production on the 10th.

Edit: Just out of curiosity, what was Tesla's rough guess for your delivery date on your Pro-Forma? Mine was the 29th, and barring any hiccups in production or transport it could be up to a week earlier or just a few days early.

Yes, there is a point in which you make so much money that the 39% tax bracket makes it so that you aren't subject to the AMT which is a lower rate. You would be able to take the full tax credit if you make so little that you don't hit the AMT or if you make so much that the regular tax rates come out to be more than the AMT would be. For all the people stuck in the middle that are subject to the AMT, you generally aren't going to be able to take the credit. That is what happened to me last year. I was expecting to be able to take the credit for the charger install, but after working through the forms in Turbo Tax it said I couldn't take the credit. A little bit of research and I found out that the AMT was the reason.

I should probably just work on making over $600k to help out my accountant ;)

We went in Sunday to look at colors and ended up finding a car destined for the showroom with 6 miles on it. We're taking delivery on Saturday at 11am! Upgrade from non-AP to AP2 and going midnight silver. I'm excited!!!!
Make sure you join the AZ club here and on Facebook. We have occasional meetups.
Awesome! My delivery pickup is scheduled for this Friday, 12/16 at noon.

I signed up for the AZ club forum.

Mine said 12/15, but I doubt they can make it. So hopefully I will get it by this weekend.
