Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Do you have no car currently?
Bingo.

I have to vent.

I just spent THREE HOURS on the phone. First I talked to a lovely fellow, Nick, at Philadelphia Service, who answered all my service-related questions (which nobody at Tesla HQ had any idea about), and several of my delivery-related questions. He gave me the phone number of Dan, at Queens Service, who handles registrations for NY. Then I called my insurance agent: long story short, they can't issue an insurance card without a definite delivery date (insurance can't start before the title is transferred!), *and* the registration date has to be the same as the insurance date (!). Since I want to drive the car when it's delivered, this means the registration and the insurance has to be dated on the same date as delivery and title transfer. So then I called Dan, told him what the problem was -- he asked if I'd signed the final MVPA and I pointed out that Lauren (inside delivery specialist) had been unwilling to prepare it without an insurance card! So then I basically dumped the problem on him, giving him Lauren ("inside delivery specialist")'s number and my insurance agent's number. Hopefully they can work it out among themselves.

Tesla's interdepartmental communication is terrible. I do hope that now that I've talke d to Dan things will be sorted out; Lauren knew nothing about how title and registration worked in NY.

I notice people listing seats and shelf on DUE BILLS. What about the reading lights, lighted sun visor, defrost vent?

Have these all been coming on new cars or are they still due? And if so why are they not on the due bill?

I am told that sun visors are coming on all new cars. (I do not know exactly what sun visor.) I am told that the revised defrost vent has not been rolled out to the service centers yet (but I am on the list to be called as soon as Philadelphia gets it). I know nothing about reading lights, perhaps someone else can answer.

I plotted sequence number (Res Num) by VIN. You can clearly see the batching that is occurring. Once one type of configuration has run through they go back to the lowest sequence number for the next configuration. I'm guessing the line on the top that starts around 3500 is 60kWh cars. Not sure how up to date the spreadsheet on page 1 of this thread is, but that's where I got the data.

@fluxemag A car forum where people post scatterplots?!? I've clearly landed among some like minded people :)

Now the real question is what criteria are they using for the batching? Battery size and pano sunroof? Leather vs. textile seats? Sound studio? Exterior color? All of the above?

Any chance you made a color-coded version of that graph where the color encodes whatever criteria was used to determine the batches?

Update: I just looked at the spreadsheet and realized it doesn't contain the configuration info. But I imagine someone here has the free time and the skill to write a script that will follow each link in the spreadsheet and try to parse the configuration info from each post . . .

Yes John is my DS...and i'm the one who got one. You must have a vin if he can predict when your car will come off the line.

No VIN. it was just his guess. Not sure how he could guestimate that day. In any case, I really wanted to hit my window because I'm out on a business trip from the 16th to the 24th. So, hopefully it's ready on the 25th for me. I wanted it sooner rather than later because of the CA rebate.

Try calling Lauren in Menlo Park store. I posted a "possible" explanation for the lack of VIN for my vehicle on the other delivery thread.

4467 delivered today at 1730cst. BEFORE I GET TOO FAR, ALSO IN THE TRAILER WERE DELIVERIES TO KANSAS CITY, OHIO, TENNESEE, and oops, too excited to remember the last one. KC you're next. They all looked to be blue or black. The driver Steve was a great guy. Unfortunately he didn't know much about what's in the car or what should be in the car. He makes sure the keys are there(duh, he needs them) and that it's intact and safe. Tesla takes care of the rest. My date night with 4467 was brief but this is what I take away:
-Car is absolutely flawless. Everything is working perfectly although the air suspension didn't want to take right away. Too cold I suppose.
-Tech package would have been nice. The auto lift gate for the kids in and out of the back(they love it back there 8 and 5 y.o.). Auto presenting handles. etc. Oh well.
-Standard sound system sounds plenty fine to me although I didn't blast it.
-Traction control is AMAZING. The only way you know something's amiss is the acceleration is less peppy and a TC warning flashing on panel. The roads are utter crap here but the car didn't kick out at all, even under full acceleration. At least I haven't been able to make it do it yet. With TC off, rear end kicks out quickly but stability control takes over if you get too far.
-App seems a little slow to connect IMO. Maybe my iPhone 4 is the problem. Regardless, the app is great. Very useful.
-Interior windows had a bit of film on them but fogging was not an issue.
What can I say, the test drives impressed me and now ownership blows me away. Love, love, love this car. Even if it only could travel 100 miles I'd still buy it. Great car. Just a few pics

From the forecast, it looks like you're going to get to give her a workout in some more snow and subzero temps later this week.
We'll have to work a little harder on getting it to kick out under full acceleration. :scared:

p3081 - VIN 3756 delivered today at Bell Square. Was a bit delayed due to the shipping backlog to Seattle (car was finished on Jan 18, got on a truck Feb 6 - picked up today).

No items on my due bill. Only minor thing that seemed to be missing was screws for the front license plate, didn't think of it there, got home and went to put on my front plate toll pass. Might try a couple of the rear screws tomorrow -- depending how long they are.
First blemish - while looking for parking half a mile from pickup, some minor curb rash -- wide car will take some getting used to.

Now - home and charging. I was a little surprised how easy I got it into the garage, folding in the driver side mirror -- getting out will be harder. (navigating the narrow garage door, and the stuff in the driveway I have to immediately turn to avoid.

...(etc.)

Ouch, what a pain. Chicken-and-egg problem. And yet how do people buy their first car? ;-) Sorry this is such a PITA.

That explains why my DES didn't know about the defrost thing. Re. lighted visors, I was told (again, by DES) that they're starting to come on new cars, but no retrofit/recall to get it, unlike what GeorgeB had said some months back. Ah well.

Have these all been coming on new cars or are they still due? And if so why are they not on the due bill?

BTW these can't be on the due bill since you're talking about new/different things being rolled out, not things that are missing, IMHO. I ordered a shelf and it's not missing, so it's on the due bill. We hear rumours about lights or visors, that's not something missing that they was part of the car; they're redesigning to change these things, i.e., new cars will have them, methinks...whether they offer a retrofit, I hope but now am not expecting.

The defrost vent issue should be a recall notice, though--that's just a flaw they're figuring out a fix for. Not the same as visor lights--my Miata didn't have those, but my vents worked properly.

Not sure I'm explaining my thoughts on this well.

From various postings on TMC, I was able to construct a chart showing the relative proportions of Model S Teslas finalized to date. Unfortunately, I combined white and pearl so these show up as a single color rather than two distinct colors. I was surprised that nearly each color appears to be ordered in roughly the same numbers.

Interesting, is the data just from this forum (i.e., not all Model Ss) or is this actually based on info from Tesla? And . . . yes, my brown is rare, they weren't just blowing smoke at me. ;-) Not that I care, and it's not why I picked it, but it seemed unusual and I'm kinda happy it really is.

the confusion continues... this morning, i finally speak with Jamee at Rockville Tesla and she says she has no idea why this guy is going around delivering Model S's today, and that I should not be part of that. she said car needs to be inspected and prepped.

Jamee is definitely top-notch, and with an appreciated moment of humility exasperates: "ah yes.... we are definitely a start-up company".

anyway, she prioritized my inspection and i will pick it up at 4pm today in Rockville.

i think.

(until the next call comes...)

And? And? And? Don't leave us hanging! Did you get it??? ;-)

Kinda scary, though, that she says the guy is going around delivering cars...love that comment, though. Keep us posted, man!

Awesome, and more awesome. The data showing the batching is really impressive.

Yes, this is really impressive, I feel like it deserves its own thread. Not sure if you have me up there: P10267 and VIN 4375.
