I have been given a VIN, but as of today thar car has not entered into assembly.

Not sure what you mean by that--"not entered into assembly"? As in they're not building it yet? Do you know this because the DS told you so? My Tesla "My Garage" claims they're building it but I've read here that the status there doesn't really mean a thing. I haven't heard from my PS (I don't have a DS, as far as I know) in 10 days, but I had no reason to...the end of the month crept up on me, whoops!

I'm bummed that they're not more organized. They should've planned more carefully/conservatively, and especially, they should know the deal by now and be telling folks whether their car will come. I e-mailed my PS before I even saw this thread (earlier today) but now I guess I know the answer. I do feel silly, though--I suddenly realized how close we were to year end, so I dropped by the credit union and got my loan preapproved and got the "blank check" (good up to a certain amount [off by $1 because she wrote it wrong, heh]). I'm sure it's good for a while, but I would've waited if I'd realized. I just didn't want me to be the hold up. ;-)

Ah, well. I don't really care if I pay on the 31st and get it a week or two later, or pay in a week or two and get it in late January . . . though I'd hoped for the tax credit this year, it's not a huge big deal. We're using a lot of savings for the downpayment, so an extra $7500 refund at tax time would be nice, to beef up the reserves! That would more than pay for the service and extended warranty/service. Harumph.

I'm thinking, though, if they're not going to do this rush December delivery, I'm going to tell them in that case, forget this weird California-buy/temp-register/ship to me thing and just sell it to me normal! And let me pick it up at the store, or at least send it with a real DS so I get the full experience!

Called and left a message for my DS this evening and have not gotten a reply. I'll be calling back in a less of a good mood now.

Update:

Called the general number and my very own DS answered the phone! He explained that, in their system "Friday" ends at midnight (very Tesla, IMO) and that I should expect paperwork before this time tomorrow. He reaffirmed that they're working through the weekend. He also said that they've been trying to prioritize people who live on the east coast because their cars have a long way to go (I'm in Oregon).

Most importantly, he said my car was done, sitting on the lot waiting to be wrapped for transport!!!

I'm in a better mood now.

I am P5,199. Answered with a yes as soon as I got the email. Had the delivery questionnaire a few days later and received the same 12/15-12/31 estimated delivery date. After that a few emails back and forth regarding the high power wall charger not being available before the car arrived and then nothing. While I am happy to see those with res numbers much higher getting VIN’s, it’s becoming rather frustrating, especially when I see people with much higher numbers, virtually the same configuration and the same general location getting VIN’s and paperwork.

Amusingly, I left voicemail for my PS right after I wrote this, not expecting a call back, but he called back in a few minutes!

As feared (and as some others are finding), I won't be buying by year's end. On the plus side, this isn't bouncing me back to my original Feb/March timeframe. ;-) He said I'd probably get a VIN the first week of January, when it sounds like another big batch is happening or something. This was not a promise, I'm very clear on--just a prediction based on what he hears from the factory. Anyway, I'm guesstimating I might then get the car in the 2nd or (more likely) 3rd week of January. I told him I appreciated the call back, and though I know he and everyone at Tesla is crazy busy, if he could drop a line in a week or two (hopefully with more info) to update me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I'm still excited, and and I guess this gives more time for Solar City to come out and do power stuff, put in a temporary 240v outlet, etc. More time for me to immerse myself in this forum.... ;-)

I was given a VIN on Monday, it took until today to get my MVPA generated, which I signed immediately and had funds wired within the hour. My DS Tim was *incredibly* responsive via email throughout the entire process, and he shepherded me through each step of the way. My vehicle is complete and should be on a truck in the next day or two, with delivery in PA in 7-10 days...hopefully in 2012!

As a NYer who was originally scheduled for nov/dec the fast delivery only reconfirmed my original time frame.

However, as I have not received a VIN yet my DS, who is quite helpful, gave the opposite explanation. She said CA deliveries were taking precedence over east coast ones and so my car is unlikely to be built until January.

I must say their procedures are so opaque...

Seems like paperwork is a bottleneck these days. The turnaround to get your final MVPA seems to take awhile, even though most of it was already the same as the pre-MVPA after finalizing. For those of your who received your final MVPA, I just noticed there is a field right above the VIN that says "Vehicle to be delivered on or about". Just wondering how accurate that is.

Interesting, I got no hint of DMV paperwork.. isn't that something you can fill out when you pick up the car? What date is listed in "Vehicle to be delivered on or about" field on your MVPA.

Mine says 12/26.
Got the FedEx DMV docs today. Signed them tonight.

My product specialist (Stone) has been quite responsive to my emails.

Derek.

Not very accurate. Mine says 12/19, which is the date the papers were signed, but I didn't even get Tesla the money FedEx'd until 12/20.

The car still (presumably) isn't on truck yet, so I'm only hoping it'll show up next week sometime.

They're not doing the "at time of purchase" thing anymore in Ontario for some reason; they just help you fill out the paperwork. I asked why and got a vague answer about the rules changing recently.

I don't believe the rules have changed, but it is up to the "dealer" as to whether they want to handle it for the customer or not. I suspect in the rush to get these early cars out, they decided against one more thing to do...

Wow! That's the first I've heard about prioritizing the east coasters! That's good news for me.

I received 3 phone calls from my DS between Sunday and Monday, got my VIN as well as assurance that my Model S would arrive in South Florida before the New Year. They had asked me to pre-pay when the car was ready and on Monday I was told that I was 1 step away from completion and the car would be on a truck in 1-2 days. Since then, nothing. No requests for payment, no response to email. I'm pretty bummed. VIN #2385.

I'm wondering/hoping that they just throw all of the east coast cars on trucks and work out the paperwork in transit.

Same story for me: e-mail saying 12/15-31, excitement, reply yes, phone call, reiterate 12/15-31, more excitement, financing gymnastics, garage charger gymnastics, crickets from Tesla, wait, wait, e-mail/call, voice mail back says early January. I'll make the over/under February 1st.

Exact same experience here. My DS said he would call me today to give me the details regarding why they fell short.

Based on all the 'me too's (with regards to missing the 12/31 delivery window), it looks more like Tesla missed internal production goals rather than an east-coast/west-coast/California rebate/tax/unknown priorities/etc... situation. A lot of tired people working 7 days a week, I'm not surprised.

"The waiting is the hardest part."

ROFL! Great lyric quote for this thread. ;-)

I believe they asked almost everyone if they wanted December, and accepted everyone, without actually running the numbers. Bit off more than they could chew. While pure production is no doubt an issue, I think the logistics of post-manufacturing is a big issue, too--not enough PSs and DSs coordinating things with customers, payment, shipping, etc.

I signed MVPA on Sun 12/16, wired full payment Mon17th, paperwork said delivery 'on or about' 12/24. However. Response to my email Friday said delivery more likely 12/31 or next few days after! Hope it doesn't slip further. I expect to be able to use Fed Tax Credit on 2012 taxes since payment and MVPA are in 2012, despite possible 2013 delivery. Anyone know differently? P3030. VIN 1986
Black perf all options except child seats.

I'm in the same boat here. Accepted the early delivery email, got a Dec 15-31 delivery window, got email from my Tesla rep on Monday with prep info, sent a copy of my drivers license and insurance card, wired in my down payment, then waited for a VIN. Called a few times throughout the week - still no VIN. Talked to the rep on Friday - still no VIN, doesn't look like it's going to happen in 2012, sorry.

Sigh.

The 6 stages of Tesla delivery:
1. Elation
2. Hope
