true autonomous driving.

meaning a system that can drive as good or better than a human in all environments? oh yea at least 6 years away.

I hope an EAP feature comes soon, like transitioning between freeways, I'm just craving some excitement to get people's attention and take autonomous driving seriously. even if is a poorly performing L2 feature with debatable safety concerns.

And same goes for FSD L2 features, will also get attention even if its just a L2 feature that needs many disengagements.

There are still a lot of things that need upgrading in AP1 cars. The Linux kernel, the navigation app, the sound system, refinements to acceleration and braking in autopilot, automatic steering wheel retraction and even an automatic exit mode moving the seat back for exit, and so on. We were also promised a new user interface. All delayed because of a spat with the market leader, Mobileye!!

Grrrrrr should have had enough foresight to realize Elon meant "and next week **3 cars** will get a firmware update making AP2 smooth as silk". :-/
He said June and then "maybe early next week".

The first three cars got it last week technically. Based off the PR statement it sounds like the mass rollout is planned for the end of the week.

In the grand scheme of Elon time, this isn't too bad.

"If". Let's criticize them for falling off that schedule when they've actually fallen off that schedule. Not when we're only halfway into it.

....And they are officially off the schedule. Elon tweeted that the next update "should" be next weekend, which is over the 6 week max between updates. He made it a whole 4 updates! When it doesn't come out next weekend the fanboys will all say "well he said SHOULD not WILL!!!!!"
