The 2012 LEAF timers set start and stop times, and battery percentage (80% or 100%). If a charge stop time is set (and it can be left ‘open’), charging will stop at that time even if the target percentage has not been reached. This is A Good Thing because it means you can choose to stop charging at a known time, for example, when peak electricity rates start.
Only two different timers can be created, and are not location aware. I believe that later LEAFs removed the ability to charge to 80% only. Also there is no ability to set a charge rate, it will charge at whatever rate it can.
Well that is good to know.
There is no reason why Tesla could not add this capability to PW2 owners. The PW2 knows when there is excess solar generation, the PW2 knows your Tesla ID, Tesla knows your Tesla ID and can communicate with your Model 3, Tesla knows your Model 3 is at home, Tesla could tell Model 3 to start charging when there is excess solar generation (if it’s plugged in, of course).
