Tesla Model 3 in Australia

However, something no one has noticed is that they are still selling single motor long range model Y, so they might be planning to reintroduce that specific battery pack. But the configurator hasn’t changed in a Kong time and still lists black as default so who knows
It's the same battery pack as the AWD and P one, apart from the wiring to the motor inverters (obviously). It's also still sold in China for rear wheel drive models.

It has a start timer only, stop charging by adjusting amps and battery percentage to suit.
Start and Stop charging and target charge level can be done on the mobile app and therefore 3rd party cloud solutions that use the API as well. The amps cannot be adjusted remotely, they can only be adjusted in the car or from the EVSE.

If you want the car charging to follow surplus solar or total solar production, you need a special EVSE like Zappi or similar. Hacks like interfacing to the HPWC power sharing feature are possible, but definitely not turnkey. OpenEVSE also has mods to do this.

Hello everyone

I recently ordered M3 and from Wellington. Hoping to connect with fellow enthusiasts in this forum. Has anyone received their M3 delivery yet?
Welcome Zfactor. No, delivery for those of us who had confirmed orders in June/July was stated as August on the Tesla web page, but is most likely going to be mid-September. See the discussion about transport ships and arrival dates from about page 135 of the “Tesla Model 3 in Australia” thread.

What sort of Model 3 did you order? Silver SR+ here.

“RoRo ro your boat gently down the stream?”
“I think you need to container your enthusiasm for Roro ro-ing”
“Help me Obi-containerobi, you're our only hope”
“May the delivery farce be with you”

See... this is what happens when you have a bunch of unsupervised adults twiddling their thumbs waiting for their Model 3s! Things go downhill fast :D:D

You say downhill. I say that that's a perfectly normal evening socialising with my friends, and wonder what the fuss is all about. Whatever floats your boat, I guess. I suppose the wait is one hull of a problem...

The 2012 LEAF timers set start and stop times, and battery percentage (80% or 100%). If a charge stop time is set (and it can be left ‘open’), charging will stop at that time even if the target percentage has not been reached. This is A Good Thing because it means you can choose to stop charging at a known time, for example, when peak electricity rates start.

Only two different timers can be created, and are not location aware. I believe that later LEAFs removed the ability to charge to 80% only. Also there is no ability to set a charge rate, it will charge at whatever rate it can.

Well that is good to know.

There is no reason why Tesla could not add this capability to PW2 owners. The PW2 knows when there is excess solar generation, the PW2 knows your Tesla ID, Tesla knows your Tesla ID and can communicate with your Model 3, Tesla knows your Model 3 is at home, Tesla could tell Model 3 to start charging when there is excess solar generation (if it’s plugged in, of course).

But QLD don’t have annual inspections for private vehicles

Not for yearly renewal (sensible) but they do need one if you are selling the car. There's no escaping. My trade-in situation was not so bad, in that I would not have got much more on private sale... remember that what you see on carsales etc. are the asking prices, not necessarily what the cars eventually sell for.

Agreed. Twitter is wonderful. This has been asked and answered. Elon said this feature is coming "soon".

Have you thought about tweeting that idea to Elon Musk?

I wonder how long until I can get a test drive in Brisbane... Would love to have a go.

I keep visiting the store about weekly and Tesla parking below after hours to see if there are hidden model 3s. Have not found any yet.

I have a theory (based on no information whatsoever - a vague mention of it being used by a car company in an article a while back) the deliveries could happen at the old now closed Bunnings at Albion. It would be a good spot. I've even been there searching.

I visited the Brisbane store to see the LHD 3 they had and couldnt even get in there because it was through the service center, had to view from the pavement below outside the store :/

It's back in the showroom. I think it was there because there was some fault and the display is no longer operational (maybe battery/12v battery related), and there were no parts to fix it.
