Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I was told by Tesla this depends on your state. In NSW the process is too laborious so they dont bother. If you want your custom plates put on the M3 in NSW then you need to do this yourself after you bought the car with random plates on it. Make sure you ask them for the yellow/black plates though because they are $47 compared to $110 for the premium (black/white) random plates.

I finally got my model 3 :) I ordered custom plates way in advance and they were sitting at NSW service ready to pickup. So driving there was one of my first drives. I picked the hideous NSW yellow standard plates on the order / registration stuff then handed them straight back in shortly after they arrived. Wasn't a bad plate "CU - xx - xx" which is a nice acronym for a fast car. But no way I was leaving that yellow on. Only thing is you have to drill your own holes in the plate to match the Tesla mount. The two holes are 210mm apart and I was driving around with no plates until I could get organised enough to do the drilling.

I went for the wide / euro slim ones with a colour to match the midnight silver. Looks great.. to me, could care less what anyone else thinks ;)

Did a quick video of the delivery process for Perth. Extremely quick. Under 5 min. You can guess the name I want to call the car if you see the video. However living in a house with 3 women I doubt I'll get away with it. Photos of the small defects at the end of the video. Delivery lady (melbourne) admitted mine was the only 2nd delivery she had handled and she didn't know all the answers to my questions but for sure she consulted with her supervisor and got the answers promptly....Obviously Tesla has a very new team doing these deliveries. Delivery team immediately confirmed (on asking) homelink will be retrofitted at no cost when available...but lifelong premium connectivity...that seems like that will be a fight. Since I only got to drive it a few minutes before the wife claimed it as hers and took off doing after school stuff with the kids I don't have much feedback other than it accelerates and handles way better than my '73 detomaso Pantera..which ain't no slouch! Younger daughter (13) is enthralled and literally spent 2 hrs in the car in the garage playing with absolutely everything. The older daughter (15) is completely indifferent, only interested in the music options with the car. Odometer on invoice 3Km, on delivery 7km. Summary: Bloody awesome.

Doesn't sound good for a new car - how big is the dent? how are the doors mismatched - colour, alignment? Pictures?
surf, I just posted a video showing the defects at the end. If need more detail, I'll post better photos. They are minor but after forking out this much coin it could be better but I'm sure it will all be sorted. I'm more interested in the internals which are rock solid...well, mind blowing really.

Enjoy mate. Fingers crossed they all get fixed without any dramas.

For my own knowledge - my delivery appointment is 4pm on Wednesday week, do you think I should be expecting 2pm instead?

Thanks for posting the great video - very exciting day. The defects look relatively minor and fixable with no major rework. Will be interesting to see what the story is with the bumper. I hope you get to claim some time in it. Btw, the blue looks great.

When they call, or email you (which is seems to be just 2 business days before) they will tell you exactly the 'local' time for delivery. My delivery was with WestOz and they were really professional and communicative and hit their 1hr delivery window on the money. Their delivery guy was deeply apologetic for the blue metal gunk spray on the wheel arches (no other mess I could see) but said that that was Autonexus not having a sealed area. But, yes, seems Tesla system for Perth deliveries is set to Melbourne time as far as account page goes so whatever shows on your account, subtract 2 hrs. For me at least (so many seem otherwise), all the delivery dates/times I've been given from Tesla have been rock solid and if anything come forward by a few hrs...I got caught out this morning, went out for a long bike ride (based on the given delivery time) only to get the call as far as possible from home to be told its arriving 1 1/2 hrs earlier! F%$k....never have I ridden so fast back.....

That looks hot! Congrats.
Did you need to do anything special when swapping over the custom plates? My ones are sitting in the store room at Service NSW too. Did you need to let them know in advance so they get the plates out of storage? How long was the process? Thanks for the heads-up on drilling the holes.

The old plate has 4 clips holding the perspex you can take off by hand (or with a key / flathead screwdriver) with a small amount of force. Then there are two Phillips head screws to remove. (I took my cordless ryobi dill with screw bit to the Service NSW branch).

I had a letter from them that basically said "your plates are ready, come get them from this branch"

How long was the process?

About 3 minutes. Walked in with old plates, they took them and checked my rego and printed out a new rego with the new plate letters. Took my money. I looked at the missing holes and asked if it's ok to drive around with no plates. They said as long as your plates are in the front seat with the receipt showing you've just picked them up, I'm fine to drive around and I won't get booked.

Which was cool because the car looks LIKE A BOSS without plates. I had people tailgating me to get a better look.

Went home, drilled holes. Messed it up a little, drilled more holes. Screwed them in. All good :)

Ok cheers. Lucky I live close to work so could make it home easily within the timeframe.

In saying that, nice way to confuse the heck out of people re timing. I've already said to my boss that I'll have to leave an important meeting early...now I'll be leaving extremely early it seems...

Thanks for the info!

I got the delivery call this afternoon (private number) but missed it. Thankfully my wife got an email (will be registered in her name) and I was able to reply to confirm the proposed delivery date and time.

SR+, Red Multi-Coat, Black Interior, no FSD
Ordered: 13/7/2019
Delivery: 27/9/2019
VIN: 5YJ3F7EA4KF4986XX (so looks like maybe ANL Warrnambool after all)
Invoice: told it will be in my account in a couple of days

Sorry for any reservation holders or earlier orderers still waiting, it shouldn't be long now. I could have made a reservation but reasoned it wouldn't make much difference and bought TSLA shares instead. My order is pretty simple - cash, no trade-in, and have likely chosen a configuration Melbourne will have plenty of. Hopefuly grand final weekend will be spent driving and fitting it out with the T-Sportline 18" turbines and a ton of accessories. Will also be doing a ceramic coat (but not sure where yet) and have to lock in insurance.

My VIN has just become viable on my account page. Still no acknowledgement of receiving $70k from me. With only 5 days till delivery I'm going to have to assume the delivery time and date that is on my account and was put to me a tentative is actually going ahead.

I have emailed my delivery specialist asking if money has got to them, rego papers are correct and if delivery time will stay as is as I've already rearranged work and kids.

Have not heard back.
