Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Ladies and gents,

Looking at the spreadsheet, there is a delivery date of 02/09/2019 however I can't confirm as the person hasn't left their TMC username.

Link here

If that data is true the reservation date is only a few months ago. What about those poor souls who reserved 3 years ago? Looks like they just took our money and never intended to honour their word on first in first served.

Yes it does sadly.
*sigh* - They should seriously sell that as if it was an accessory, and allow it to be credited to your account, then when you get the car, you can select which car to apply it to (drop down of the VIN or the car's name) and then an update becomes available to the car, and boom.

Imagine the extra revenue if people were able to buy that pre-delivery, ready for delivery....and....no LCT addition because technically it's not part of the car yet.

This is what's been happening with UK deliveries I'm sad to say. Day 1 reservation holders are still waiting to get a delivery date and someone with exactly the same specification, same pickup location, same payment method etc. etc. is already driving their car.

It's really a big kick in the gonads for all of us who put faith and loyalty in Tesla 3 1/2 years ago.

Yer, as much as I would like the reservation system to be honoured, I don't really care. The money was going on the car anyway, it's not like it's been taken and you never see it again I guess.

You are nothing if you are not your word. I can handle waiting an extra couple of weeks but it really grates me that Tesla would say one thing and do something else, especially at the expense of their loyal customers who put their money down early because they believed in the product/company.. and all for what? To make some extra money. That's low.

From my point of view they seem to be doing a pretty good job honouring the reservation commitment - res d1, ord d1, budget spec & they called today (I missed the call but expect it will be for an early sept delivery - she’s calling back in the morning). Perhaps they topped up the first shipment with spec builds that weren’t matched to particular orders at build time - they certainly do a bit of that for the states.

Hans got a call from his delivery specialist at the People's Trabant Factory to advise that his order had been accepted, and delivery would be on Thursday 12th November 2033. Hans asked would that be PM or AM? "What difference does it make?" asked the specialist.
"The plumber is coming in the afternoon" replied Hans.

Model 3 and Trabant driver are lining up for a drag race... the ultimate showdown, the crowd is getting excited.

When the light turns green, the Trabant makes lots of smoke and noise, the Model 3 rips silently down the race track, but the Trabant has not moved from the spot...

Model 3 driver returns to the start line for a second race attempt.

The light turns green once again, but same thing happens - lots of smoke Trabant engine is revving, but no movement whatsoever.

Slightly annoyed Model 3 driver returns once again to the start line. This time, he gets out of his car, looks around the Trabant and suddenly gestures the driver to turn down his window.

"No wonder you could not move, your front tyre was stuck on a chewing gum!"

just to clarify, with the Gen 2 UMC the maximum charge you can draw from a three phase plug in Australia is 16A x 230V x 1 phase? right? There was some rumour here that you can draw 32A which doesn't seem to add up given that the tesla euro pigtail is only 16A?

Also the gen 1 pigtail is compatable with the gen 2 pigtail isnt it?

Looks like it has been updated and the date has changed to 2016, so they are in fact a long time reservation holder.

We can restore faith in Tesla once again haha.

If it's true then one person who may not have been among the first reservation holders has a September delivery date booked in. People who reserved 3 years ago may still be offered August deliveries. Better to wait for more data before jumping to any conclusions.

I have a VIN and a call from Tesla as well... P3D+ with my order placed on 6/6/19, and updated 17/7. I don't think Tesla really follows anything except the money trail and how quick they can deliver cars.

Do you think the allocation is completely random?

or

Is it possible that Tesla is actually by and large trying to do the right thing, but just that there is the occasional slip-up [as might be expected from a start-up EV company that is managing exponential growth]?

I am sure that Tesla could make 100% sure that all cars are EXACTLY delivered in the correct order, as I think they "promised" from day 1 (they never said day 1 registration holders would get their cars first),

My understanding of the order of deliveries:

Employees first - ranked in oder of premium features ordered, then based on an algorithm that takes both registration date and order date into consideration
Existing Tesla customers second - ranked in oder of premium features ordered, then based on an algorithm that takes both registration date and order date into consideration
First to Register third - ranked in oder of premium features ordered, then based on an algorithm that takes both registration date and order date into consideration
First to order next - ranked in oder of premium features ordered, then based on an algorithm that takes both registration date and order date into consideration

Given that Tesla has still been cashflow negative, I believe that it was always stated that premium options would get high priority, so high-option orders might trump the above order.

However, making 100% sure that the oder of deliveries is correct, would probably mean that almost everyone would get their cars later.

Now, I have no idea how Tesla actually do things internally, but I would be willing to bet that they are aiming to stick to the above order in as logical a way as possible while simultaneously ensuring that overall they get the cars out as fast as possible.

In the real world, things will go wrong and there will inevitably be some early reservation holders who will slip between the cracks. I am not going to bust a gasket...

Just imho

C'mon this is Straya! The golden girt land of nepotism!

Employees first!
Friends and family second!
First day register's third/fourth! } Hard to pick between these two
Mate's slipping a case of beer third/fourth! } in case too obvious and lose job.
Media/celebrities/politicians and third party bribes fifth!
Simon Hackett sixth!
Existing Tesla customers seventh!
Slightly slower register's eighth!
Orderer's in order ninth!

Just imho! ;)

I have no idea how many of you in Aus/NZ are reservation holders and how many have converted those reservations to orders, but if the numbers mean it will take several ships to get all the cars to you, I guess you'll gradually discover if the allocation 'system' is anywhere near as it was originally stated or not.

All I can tell you is in the UK it has not been followed as we were led to believe and although we've tried to understand how they've been selecting those lucky enough to get their cars, it's been almost impossible to work out.

Tesla have actually said to some customers they allocated cars incorrectly. My hunch is that it's been a combination of some sort of automatic allocation system not working correctly, compounded by human error and/or complacency.

I hope your delivery experience will be better.

Little video from the Brisbane test model in white. Looks so good. https://photos.app.goo.gl/nwRoBu75LV8SFF7e6

Wow, looks awesome. Not that I am biased as that’s my exact config! M3P+ in pearl white and changed my order on 16 July to white interior. I want it now, but in the end I figure a few extra weeks for a car I’ll have for years is worth it. But now that people are getting called... I must remain strong!
