Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Ship arrival time to bums in cars in NZ has been almost exactly two weeks is that correct? And now with ships coming every week you would assume that the cars will just keep flowing from now on?

Yes. About 2 weeks in NZ as well as a rule of thumb. If it is the similar to Australia, the breakdown is roughly for Auckland;
.2-3 days to clear port
.5-7days Autonexus processing
.2-3 days Transport to Showroom and more procesing and registration/license plates, and scheduling delivery appointment.

Weekends have an effect also. Cars can sit for a while at any part of the process.
It can be earlier than 2 weeks if everything lines up but best to have expectations not set any. earlier. South Island will of course be longer.

As we get close to end of quarter there will be a big push for faster - to deliver as many as possible so Tesla can increase the sales numbers and not have them sit on the books as inventory.

I have a similar question, what was the time between the first ship docking (Sydney) and the vin appearing and / or contact from Tesla?

Hidden vins appeared first, but not always

With Cap Capricorn, the first delivery specialist calls started to happen about the time they cleared the port I think (2-3 days after Cap Capricorn arrival) - About the time Autonexus has them at their facilities. Someone, please correct me on this who received the first calls. But really the calls have been spread out for Cap Capricorn vehicles over 2 weeks, so you can’t say ship arrives, 3 days later get call.

I can see a backlog situation starting to happen if Tesla have not ramped up staffing. In NZ, it is reported Tesla had to increase staff to handle the volumes. I can see a delivery frenzy happening as we get close to end of quarter. Elon hates inventory sitting, and wants the sales numbers up - Sales are recorded on delivery.

Have Tesla actually confirmed that homelink isnt included in the first round of orders people placed? I would only be really disappointed because of the lack of communication if that was the case. I love Tesla but it’s kind of poor for them to take 115,000 grand of my hard earned and then not even tell me that certain features I ordered with my car won’t be coming anymore

well it seems enough of us do?
I care. I understand the wait until September. I can even understand that they made a mistake by not including the premium connectivity disclaimer that it’s only for one year (although imagine if I forgot to disclaim that can only have my money for 1 year).

But having a feature listed as specifically different between models, not providing that feature and then keeping quiet about it for 3 months until delivery would be pretty poor.

Hopefully it’s included, or hopefully Tesla refunds the $400 cost it would take to install. Failing that, a sorry-we-goofed email.

I agree it’s incredibly minor, but minor things can really suck the fun out of these experiences when you are dealing with fanatics. And if there’s one thing the last 300 pages has shown...

I mean no idea what the hell that is but how does it compare to a factory fitted geo-fenced garage door opener that should be included with the car?
Homelink requires your car to be in RF range of your garage door/gate. The device that I linked above doesn't...you set it up as a home automation device in your platform of choice and then you can set automation conditions for it. As an example, you could set a condition for when you turn onto your street it will open the door/gate in preparation of your arrival. You also get the state of the door reported so you know for sure if the door/gate did actually close. It's also not tied to the car...so if you have multiple cars then both drivers can benefit. Much more functionality then what Homelink will ever give you.

Some perspective on this matter.....the early adopters like dborn and ray newman, and even myself (although I wasnt as early) were promised that our tesla model s would open the garage door and meet us at the kerb all on its own based on my diary.
The cars didnt come with homelink, so the dream could never be realised. Indeed the only bit that is true is that the tesla can read my diary. But I never complained loudly, simply because tesla were doing stuff after sale way beyond my wildest expectations. Tesla eventually got homelink available in australia, and I have it on my new S but not my old S, since sold.
To be honest i was super excited to have homelink, but now I rarely use it. I cant automate it as we have 4 users of our gate and doors, so not so good if one of them is on the way in or out, or one of the pets is under the open door, and using homelink manually is too far away on the screen for a comfortable reach.
Yes you can make all sorts of threats and actions over a $400 item that isnt really doing anything usefull, or you could enjoy your car and build a strong relationship with your service tech for future help. A small remote stuck to the windscreen with velcro is a good clean solution. Your tesla will never meet you on the kerb anyway. Thats for a later hardware version that will have level 5 autonomy, as opposed to the ‘FSD’ branding, previously called ‘autopilot’

You may have been told that you were getting homelink, FSD etc etc but what was listed on your purchase order when you paid your purchase deposit was what you were getting as a minimum from Tesla. The rest if and when it ever came would be a gift.

Speaking of features that don’t exist. I asked the sales folks about FSD and if that was ever going to come to fruition and they told me to consider it “an investment in the future” and that none of the features should be expected to function anytime soon. Wonder if there is anyone who actually believe this?

Homelink hardware that was on the S/X actually doesn't work with standard roller doors here like B&D. You need to install a Merlin Tx/Rx to make it work. See this thread: Making homelink work In equipped model s/x
I (like others here) added the Merlin to my B&D door and it works great.
So not sure that even if the Homelink hardware is installed on the 3 that it will work with Aust garage doors unless they use a Merlin Tx/Rx

"Until your Vehicle is registered in your name, you may cancel your order at any me, in which case you will receive a full refund of your Order Payment. Until your order is matched to a vehicle, you may make changes to your Vehicle Configuration. If you make changes to your Vehicle Configuration, you may be subject to potential price increases for any pricing adjustments made since your original Order Date. Any changes made by you to your Vehicle Configuration, including changes to the delivery location or estimated delivery date, will be reflected in a subsequent Vehicle Configuration that will form part of this Agreement. Your Final Tax Invoice will include a credit to the final Drive Away price of your Vehicle equivalent to the amount of the Order Payment you paid. The Order Payment and this Agreement are not made or entered into in anticipation of or pending any conditional sale contract"
According to this the Order Agreement is not a sale contract and not entered into with anticipation of getting a sale contract out of this. So when you agree with the sale contract and they change things after that, you can sue them, not sure how far this can be taken with the order agreement though.

Yes, the purchase order is your agreement and contract with Tesla. They allow you to change at will but each time you do the agreement/ contract changes to include that change. You will only ever get what the original p.o. and your changes on the p.o. reflect. Tesla do not originate the additional changes. There is nothing to sue them for and they state "The Order Payment and this Agreement are not made or entered into in anticipation of or pending any conditional sale contract" which means the contract is unconditional as per the p.o.
One of their outs is that they only need to supply the vehicle as per the p.o. when it is available. You will get it but in their time frame, not your anticipated/expected time frame. The question of reasonableness could come up on the timeframe after the fact, but good luck on that.

In an M3 LR, it is one stop Melbourne to Sydney let alone to Canberra, at 110km/h
In an SR+ it’s also 1 stop to Canberra at 105km/h
Tesla Range Table - Teslike.com

No sorry. It’s not. Let’s go with real world and not “rated range”. Unless you are hypermiling and driving at 80 you’re not making Melb to Canberra one stop in a Model 3. This is the SR+ Melb to Canb.
