So what is the different between the 85D and a P85+? I thought that they both had dual motors front and back? I ask as I am looking at a CPO P85+ for a good price with everything I want, but don't really need the Performance. Would be silly to pass up a P85+ considering this is typically a $100K Car. Just not sure what the difference is between the Ne PXXD AWD Dual Motors and the P85+.

Sorry for the text wall in advance.

Well, I guess I'm one of the suckers who fell for the sub-$50k S60 CPO without Tech Package a couple of weeks ago. Regardless of whether prices begin to plummet due to the first deliveries of the Model X or the current lack of an upgrade path to an 85kwh or 90kwh battery, I'm beyond excited to be a new owner of a (CPO) Model S.

A few details:
- Supercharging was enabled on my car by the previous owner, so I was told that I'll get this as a bonus. When I put down my deposit, the car did not seem like it was spec'd for Supercharging.
- I was originally assigned to an Ownership Advisor (OA) prior to putting my deposit down. A few minutes after I put my deposit down online, the OA was magically notified that I had done so - so I got a congratulatory call from him.
- The car I eventually chose was in Florida, and I'm in New Mexico.
- I was assigned to a Delivery Experience Specialist (DES) in California, and was told that the car would be shipped to the service center in Scottsdale, AZ to be inspected, etc.
- The OA told me, prior to my deposit, that the $1500 shipment cost would include shipment to my house in New Mexico.
- The DES informed me that I must come to the Scottsdale service center to pick up the car - not what I had originally expected. But, luckily, I have supercharging, so I should be able to make it home? I'm just frustrated about the time and cost to fly out there/find my way to Scottsdale.
- It took about a week for them to put the car on a truck. My first update was a few days ago, when the truck had made its way from Tampa to Orlando. I have no idea when it will arrive in Scottsdale, nor do I know how long it will take to complete inspection/detail, etc.

It would be good to know if anyone else had their CPO car shipped across the country, and what their experience was.

Congrats on your purchase. I'm also looking to buy a sub-50k S60 or sub-60k S85, but tech package and super charging are preferred. Thank you for posting your purchasing experience, please keep up updated how the rest of CPO delivery goes.

CPO P85 at Highland Park, IL Store is confirmed for delivery tomorrow  So that might have been a CPO delivery timeframe record thanks to my awesome owner advisor :) I placed the order/deposit last Saturday. So excited!!!

If you guys are looking for a CPO, definitely contact Brent Seavey at the Highland Park, IL Store/Service Center. He said he has visibility into CPO cars that aren't listed and can keep potential buyers up to date. He was really on point in regards to overall communication throughout the process, especially through email.

I will post some PICs tomorrow!!

Congrats, Clark, and thanks for sharing the tip. Highland Park has boatloads of inventory - row upon row. This might actually benefit me. I have property in west Michigan and will retire to a Lake Michigan beach town a few hours north of Chicago. I've contemplated getting a MI title/plates as that would save me a bundle on insurance - over $3K for NYC - not to mention a sales tax delta of 2.875%. First year savings would top $4500 over buying a NY CPO.

I'm there for half of August so I think I'll reach out to Brent.

Chris was a pleasure to work with, and I'd gladly take 100 customers just like him. Knew what he want, kept his appointment and his word, and treated me with as much respect as he expected to receive. I wish he and his wife the most excellent ownership experience, and invite any online friends of his to contact me for assistance. Thanks Chris, see you tomorrow!

No regrets not having AP future capabilities?

None at all. They are working on my car this week and I got the same loaner again. Everything I mentioned before has been reinforced having the loaner this week (over 200 miles so far).

S85 Classic vs. P85 Autopilot Comparison
Well, my time with the loaner will be cut short. One of the things that need to work on isn't available on-hand, so they finished up everything else and will be returning my car with an appointment to finish up in two weeks. Not a problem at all. I understand things happen and I very much appreciate that they called me to tell me the issue and went ahead and finished up everything they could do right now rather than just leaving everything for later. I've seen that happen before with other makes and it is very annoying!

It will be good to get back in my own car. My overall impressions are...
- P85 is quite the performance improvement over the S85, but its value is lost on me
- The parking sensors are quite nice, but not a "must-have"
- TACC is very nice on relatively traffic-free Interstates and I enjoy it, but relatively traffic-free are the most relaxing parts of my drive
- TACC is not quite polished enough for US Hwys vs. Interstates, but still a good ride
- TACC is not advertised as such and is not suited for city driving
- When Autopilot 2.0 comes along and includes the advertised Autopilot 1.0 functionality + urban driving (or at least high-speed city streets like 45-55 mph), I will be happy to look into upgrading my Tesla
- 21" wheels have no appeal to me, so I would stick with 19s
- Either 21" Continentals or Coil Suspension (I suspect the former) is a harsher ride and bouncy after going over speed bumps/humps. My 19" Goodyears with Air are softer while still giving me acceptable levels of road feel
- I do NOT like solid black paint. I actively disliked seeing it in my garage and every time I walked up to the car
- I do NOT like tan interior. I could live with it if I had to, but I get no "enjoyment" from the tan
- I no longer prefer the black headliner. The well-lit Model S I normally drive is more at home to me
- I love the ambient lighting touches, but can live without them if they again become an expensive option
- I have zero ride height/curb issues with coils
- The 2015 turn/cruise stalks are much more natural to me than the 2013 turn/cruise stalk
- I'm ambivalent that TACC will move to the nearest 5 mph speed when given a full push up or down, while CC will move +/- 5 mph
- I like the bowling alley and even losing the 2 inches to the yacht flooring is a negative to me
- The newer cars are definitely quieter than the older ones. One of the reasons my S85 is in for service is because the rear is giving a high-pitched whine at low power/speed and I (and my passengers) are complaining because I can hear it over the music. The loaner was silent in that aspect and road noise (other than tire noise) was quieter than my car. For this, I mean I could hear sounds from the street and other cars less in the loaner than I can in my car.

I should note that with .253, this is improved. .253 is much more willing to let regen slow me down and it won't gun up when the person in front of me changes lanes, but it still doesn't like 45-55 MPH "US Highway" streets. Too many people turning in from/off to side-streets that the TACC was very panicky.
#6
Sure. For instance, I started out with a following distance of 5 and eventually dialed it into 3. So ignoring that, I apparently am more elastic with my following distance than TACC is. For instance, while definitely it didn't feel abrupt, the car wanted to slow down using the friction brake more often than I do in my car. I tend to let regen do most of my slowing and then hit the friction brake if I need to for faster maneuvers. While I do not let myself get up to the tail of the car in front of me, I definitely get closer when slowing down than a TACC of 3. I didn't take the setting lower though as following distance was right at my comfort level with 3 on the interstate. Additionally, I gave it some go three times when a car slowed to my left, changed lanes in front of me, and then continued to the exit lane on my right. TACC didn't want to speed up for a longer time than I normally wait.

Nothing major, but just behavioral differences so far. I had an all Interstate commute by the time I remembered I had TACC in this car, so I missed out on city roads with 55 mph speed limits.

He does have a point at the moment. Presently only one CPO available under $65k. New 70 RWD is $61.5k after the tax credit and the $1000 referral. Coincidence? Seems to me they really want/need to generate some new orders!

Except that he doesn't account for the several hundred CPO cars that *have* sold since the CPO program inception, and the fact that new cars are added AND SOLD every day. He makes it sound like Tesla listed 200 cars for sale that never sold.

I actually follow that guy, along with a bunch of other shorts. I like to read the critics and see the flaws in their thinking. Near as I can tell AZComendador is a bitter, underachieving 24 year old living in Madrid. I've come to the conclusion it's rooted in envy.

I can respectfully disagree with folks who don't understand the value prop of TSLA. On the surface, there is an element of absurdity to Ford having a market cap of $60B while TSLA is at $33.7B. 6.3 million global sales in 2014 versus 31,655 deliveries shouldn't be that close...IF the valuation is rooted in the past. But of course the price of TSLA has already baked where they might be at in 3, 5 and 10 years. You're buying the future.

He's off base on his CPO is a failure argument, but with 100 followers I don't think he's preaching to a very large choir.

TSLA may be over valued. But, I thought AAPL was overvalued in 2005 too.

Ah, yeah. I was in the same boat - sub-50k S60 or sub-60k S85. After seeing a few go away quickly, I had to convince myself I didn't really care about TP -- this is not so easy.

Congrats! I certainly wouldn't consider you a sucker, especially since you probably snapped the car up before I got a chance to. Was this P10875? (edit) Wait, P10875 has TP.

Nope! Wasn't me. In case you're curious, mine was P07619 iirc.

Hmmm. I wonder if your car will have these. Here are a couple things that VIN range w/ TP has:
- fog lights
- cornering lights
- ambient lighting (lighting under arm rest in door and two lights in trunk @ rear bumper)
- chrome trim by frunk latch

I also believe you car will have the following "unique" characteristics:
- no electrochromatic side mirrors
- center rear view mirror with day/night toggle switch

In any event, none of this is earth-shattering. Congrats on the car! :)

IMO every Model S is an amazing car. I don't know what people are replacing it with, but for me it will be the best car I have ever owned. For me, that will be true whether I chose an early VIN, S60, Performance or Plus. I'm so meh about AP. TACC would be nice to have on long trips, but lane keeping or self parking add zero value for me.
