Real shame they can't get Tamworth up and running - it sits in a bit of a Supercharger desert along that route. Donnington park is also somewhere lacking in chargers and would be useful being as it is on major motorways and next to an airport.
Completely agree. Derby is not particularly convenient, even if you can register your registration so there's no parking cost. There's lots of charging on the M1 already so somewhere along the very busy A38 perhaps, would be ideal. There's a fairly barren services at Willington that could be a good site.

well, in case of Nottingham, the SuC in Victoria and Tesla SC are 2.3 miles away. so in this case - it's strange location. more over, Victoria and Derby both have a paid parking facility only and really not that convenient to go there for anyone. and if you go the these shopping malls, it makes no sense to use SC as it is just not convenient.

while in reality some place with free parking/easy access from motorways makes much more sense.

now imagine tesla SC in Westminster. covent garden and how much sense that would be? Nice to have, but really?!
It may have changed since this post, and sorry if I'm telling you something you already now know, but when charging in Derby there is no parking cost. You can either just press the intercom on the way out and they'll let you out, or register your plate at the shopping centre services and then it's good on the system for five years.

It's still not a convenient set of chargers though.

...also Newark has disappeared from the map in the app - hope it's not cable cutters again!
That was prescient. This is the current sad sight at Newark.

Larkhall update:

There is a new metal pole and bag of fixing material beside the of the first six chargers this evening, so I am guessing that they are shortly to be erected in front of the nice new v4 chargers. There are no bump strips or other safety measure, and as they are open to all EV's it seems like a preventative step that should have been there from the opening.

Abington - Further thoughts.

There are eight new bases installed, and at the rear there are what appears to be the two power cabinet bases. The two power cabinets appear to be behind the container in their wrapping. Normally four chargers per cabinet.

I am going to guess that they will keep the original six chargers (possibly upgrading them to v3/4) Then there will be 14 stalls, and when the 14 at Gretna are open they will both be open to all EV's as there will then be a plentiful supply on the M74.

I thought the theory was that they are installing V3 units intentionally at the Welcome Break services as the WB people don't want competition for their Applegreen units. The problem with installing new V3 units and then opening up to non-EVs is that they'll need to offer contactless payment under the new law within a year, so it would be a bit silly to install V3 units only to replace them with V4s a year later. So seems the intention is to keep them Tesla only. The same applies at Gridserve Electric Forecourt sites.

So What’s going to happen with the existing V3 sites that are open to non-Teslas ?

Unfortunately this will happen again and again in Newark, where there is a thriving scrap metal trade. The local entrepreneurs just love recycling - presumably driven by an overwhelming desire to save the planet and enhance their ESG credentials - and they just can’t help themselves. It’s happened at the Shell chargers in the town, too.

There's a note attached to the Ferrybridge chargers to say they will be offline for 48 hours from 7am Monday (24th June) - "for expansion and improvement".
The app right now shows that 5 of the chargers are out of service with a "Reduced Service" warning. Was the note on all of them or just on some?

It looks like Charger cabinet 1 is kaput as 1A 1B 1C and 1D are broken (as well as 2A which could be something else)

There's a comment on the TOUK Facebook group from the original source about the Ferndown Forest SuC - apparently they've changed from Tesla to Osprey... so it looks like Dorset still isn't getting any SuCs sadly.
Yeah. Sounds like a lot of wishful thinking from someone in the golf club hierarchy. There might not be anything coming at all, which is what I suspect is the case. Hosting a couple of Yesla demo days doesn’t mean they’re going to spend a couple of hundred thou to drop SuC in uour golf course car park.

And existing V2 sites... They have a year to convert them to V4 units else they will be in violation of the law (unless they close them to all EVs again).
Different technical and consumer experience standards apply dependent on:

  • whether the public charge point was deployed after 24 November 2024
  • the power rating of the public charge point
  • whether the public charge point is free to use
