Wiki UK and Ireland Supercharger Site News

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
The proposed supercharger sites at Ferndown, Plymouth, Hull, Liverpool, Dublin Sandyford and Cork cover all major car ferry terminals, which would be fantastic progress for the network.

Only one major car ferry terminal in UK + Ireland appears to be missing from my knowledge, which is Rosslare (South East corner of Ireland).

Cairnryan is a major route to Northern Ireland with no SC or proposed SC.

Trentham's a weird one. The pin is in Trentham Gardens, which are large gardens and shopping village. It's directly on the A34, but other than that isn't in a particularly useful place. You could argue it's accessible to M6 J15, but Keele services is only a couple of miles north of there.

Trentham Lakes is a mile or two away, which is next to the A50/A500 junction. A supercharger there would pick up a lot of traffic travelling between the North West from the M6 and the East Midlands and M1. There's loads of dealerships round there, including Audi, BMW, Land Rover and Lexus, so a new Tesla showroom and service centre wouldn't be out-of-place. I'm biased though cos I work near there.

Trentham straddles Stoke-on-Trent and Stafford borough, so I'll keep an eye on the planning applications for both.

There is the approved joint application with Ecotricity for chargers at Stafford North services a few miles away, and isn't on the map. I don't think this is referring to that though, because the pin explicitly says Trentham, which doesn't cover the services by any stretch.

First post by the way: Hi :)

I called by Adderstone / Purdy Lodge / Berwick this morning. The installation is looking almost complete, bar the labelling of the chargers, the Tesla signs between them, and the road markings. I'm not sure if there's going to be a perimeter fence around the back of them, as that area is where the trucks park for the service area and is quite rough, making the chargers quite vulnerable from behind.

The configuration is 6x v3 Superchargers.
(Supercharge.info lists the site as 8 stalls)

Thanks for the update. @scottrobertson counted 8 stalls and I can make out 8 poles for the parking restriction signs in one of his pictures from 1st November (604515). @Garry TheBiz your pics aren't displaying in the thread for me (no entry icon instead) so I'd be interested to see if it's clear that two stalls have been removed.

Just to clarify, and on reflection, in November there were _foundations_ for 8 stalls (hence the supercharge.info entry); I'm guessing that 6 tombstones are now in place and maybe there are two bases left without tombstones on them. I expect the ground crew wouldn't want to dig up the foundations if they could avoid it, but maybe power supply or another site issue meant that two tombstones couldn't be installed.

All major car ferry terminals, apart from Dover, which is the busiest international ferry port in Europe, let alone UK.

I've uploaded the images, instead of linking to them, so hopefully they'll be persistently visible this time.

The interesting thing here is that if you refer to @scottrobertson pictures the stalls and plinths are on the opposite side to where they're now located.

So it looks like they've changed the positioning of them. I can speculate that in their original orientation, they'd be accessed from the truck parking area, whereas now they're accessed from the service road. Access from the service road does seem more sensible, as well as keeping your car cleaner, not having to drive through muddle puddles.

The fenced off area had 6 stalls, and was covered with fresh tarmac. I'd parked in the positions 7 & 8 would be in if they were to be added, and this area wasn't included in the tarmac (there was a muddy puddle as I opened my van door I had to hop over). I didn't notice any concrete plinths for an additional 2. Whilst I could have missed them, I'm fairly certain they weren't there, as I would have driven over them, and in any event the tarmac only went as far as the temporary fencing, which ends after the 6th stall, visible in an additional picture I've uploaded.

Thanks, I can see your pics now & the explanation of the new layout makes a lot of sense. I'm glad I wasn't there when the installation team were told they needed to dig everything up and move it all! Maybe they added those weird irregular gaps between the stalls as revenge!

This is really good news on top of the Pease Pottage site. Here's a link to the Thurrock Services proposal (16 Tesla bays + 10 Ecotricity):
https://regs.thurrock.gov.uk/online...s.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=QC63NCQGINX00
Approx location 51.492600, 0.271300 (North is to the left on the plan below)
@MarcoRP @Chuq looks like both Thurrock and Birch are awaiting a decision on planning proposals whereas it appears groundworks have already started at Pease Pottage.

This is a mile from my house, very good news indeed!

New Tesla retail site in Stratford Upon Avon on the old Land Rover site (CV37 0HR) with a 2MW connection applied for. I’m investigating documents for details but would have to assume it is for service centre too.
Haven’t found anything concrete yet so take it with a pinch of salt until we see documentation.

More evidence would be Tesla is advertising several job roles for Stratford Upon Avon so likely you are correct

“Bridgwater” Supercharger location may be at the Gravity business/energy park located at TA7 8AD. Planning permissions are broad and substantial for many years but a TOGUK member with contacts there was told that they are planning for them. No specific signs on the planning portal, but it is a “Q2” project for Tesla so I would hope we would see activity starting soon. The park is green-focussed so it would make sense for strong EV charging provision. Here’s the website for anyone interested.
Gravity | Smart Campus | Fast-track to the future, naturally

This is quite likely since Elon was shown round this site by UK Govt last year as a possible Tesla research location.

Spoke to a guy from Tesla in Bristol who mentioned opening Cardiff showroom by end of Feb 21 with superchargers. Not holding my breath but will investigate progress once we are able to travel
Work is underway on site so Feb 21 is ambitious but isn’t out of the question - they’ve worked really fast on other sites recently. I suspect that Superchargers would follow in the weeks/months after the SC though. A TOGUK member passes daily so is going to give regular updates and photos.

I recently received a welcome call, with follow up email, from a team member who’ll be working at the Cardiff SC. Exact opening date not mentioned, but given the proactive reach out, it can’t be far off. Email said “We are anticipating the opening to be in the next few months”.
