Love my Model Y, but there's always room for improvement...What features would you like to see Tesla make for Model Y or Model 3?

Let's classify this as either A) software updates or B) hardware upgrades (for new cars and possibly retrofitting to existing cars).

I'll start...

A) Software Updates
  1. Please enable the matrix headlights.
  2. CarPlay and Android Auto (which may or may not require HW changes)
  3. Navigate to 3rd party DCFC
  4. Error/warning messages need text-to-speech. The text is tiny and I shouldn't need to look at the screen to see that autosteer is disabled or some other critical alert.
  5. Voice recognition for changing radio stations (I thought every car had this — my Ford and my Toyota did)
  6. Without EAP or FSD, lane changing should be more seamless and less beepy. In my last car (Mach E), you'd signal, it would let you change lanes without lane keeping, and it would detect when you're in the new lane and re-engage lane centering.
  7. Add ability to adjust wiper sensitivity
  8. I've had 3-4 times in my 3 months with the car where the car would not update its status in the app. It was in persistent disconnected status (in a well covered cell area that I go all the time). In a couple cases it was broken for 3-6 hours. I had to two-button restart. Please fix this.

B) hardware upgrades (and please offer upgrades to current owners)
  1. Heads up display (that seems like the perfect minimalist match for Tesla)
  2. Cameras support for Birds Eye surround view (downward facing cameras under the side mirrors, etc)
  3. Infrared eye illuminator and camera tracking for detection driver attention instead of hands on the steering wheel (like Chevy Supercruise and Ford BlueCruise)
  4. 80A level 2 charging (19.2kW). I know early Model S cars had an option. But more and more businesses are installing 80A chargers. Blink and SemaConnect have sold 80A commercial chargers for a while. Chargepoint released a 80A commercial charger a couple months ago. If you can get almost double the charge (vs a 48A charger) during a shopping trip or a movie, or move almost twice as many cars through a charger at a workplace, that would be great.
  5. Vehicle to load and vehicle to house. We've all seen what the Hyndaid/Kia can do with a built-in plug and a J1772 adapter. And the Ford Lightning's ability to power your house. Come on Tesla, we want this too!

- Park Distance Control (Need to have)
- WAY better voice commands (Want to have)
- Matrix headlights (Want to have)
- Power frunk (Nice to have)

- AppStore for better 3rd party integrations and apps. The first AppStore is already on more expensive Tesla’s: Steam. (Want to have)
I did the after market power frunk. I love it. Use the watch up with siri and can add groceries without lifting a finger. I wish they had that from factory so I didnt have to spend 4 hours installing and watching vids. But works great !!!

Agreed. I bought a power frunk kit, too, but I haven’t yet installed it. I also bought a sweeping foot sensor for the rear power lift gate.

A few more things I would LOVE to see:
- Tesla create an Apple Watch app. It would be great to have a complication that shows my battery level from my watch especially when I'm in a store or at work and the car is charging. Door/window status and quick buttons could also be there.
- If you have your windows open outside and the car detects rain the windows shut.
- When navigating to a supercharger: automatically add you to a wait list for charging stations that are full or close to full. Your car can tell you when it is your turn and perhaps which stall to go to.
Try the “watchfor Tesla” app works perfectly and can even be a key - been using it for a couple of years and provides access to functions for use in shortcuts on iOS as well

I agree the suspension has already been addressed.. although I have not had the chance to ride in a 2023 Y to see just how much comfort has changed. Where as the hands free liftgate (yes foot swipe) should be a standard factory feature by now and not something added aftermarket. It’s fairly standard on most new vehicles now and really no excuse for it to be missing off new Teslas.

As for the noise isolation.. I could not disagree more. My Y was build 03/21 and has the dual pane windows. Riding in my wife’s 2021 ID.4 the difference in noise levels are absolute night & day. Dual pane windows should be on all 4 doors now.. not just the front windows. And the car still needs better sound dampening insulation all around. That there are also aftermarket kits available to help seal up the leaky areas around the doors.. tells that this still an issue.

These are all very cheap improvements Tesla can make that will make the vehicles much more satisfying overall. Basically low hanging fruit.
Agreed. My wife's 2022 Y is much better than my 3, but her Y is still louder inside than her 2018 Chevy Volt she had before. THAT is a real shame.

Ventilated seats are my #1 desired feature. No, I'm not going to pay an extra $30,000 to move to an X for ventilated seats.
Wish that was a standard feature in TESLA’s. Don’t know why heated steering wheel and heated windshield wipers are standard, but ventilated (A/C) seats is not a standard feature. Hell, I’ve been in FORD sedans that have this feature standard!

CLARIFICATION: Maybe I should not have said “standard” (in some FORD’s)—but at least optional!

Definitely ventilated seat. My back is always sticky during summer months even having the A/C set to the lowest and I also have a roof shade. The A/C is not that effective comparing to Japanese cars or even Germans.

Adjustable headrests both up/down and fore/aft, or at least an "upgrade" for them. Rear camera wiper/cleaner. Stock 18" wheels and more or adjustable ground clearance. Also an insurance score that doesn't lower because of erroneous forward collision warning and stuff like that.

I am happy with my headrest, but I agree with you that it would be nice if they were adjustable. Same with the rear camera wiper/cleaner; my rear camera is constantly getting dirty!

When you say your insurance score are you referring to TESLA auto insurance or are you referring to the "safety score" tied to FSD Beta????
If the former, then can I ask how much cheaper your TESLA auto insurance rate is? I am paying over $900 to insure my 2023 Model Y (LR/AWD). Would love to go with TESLA auto insurance and save, but it is not available in my state at this time.
