What you would have is a DC (high voltage) to DC (12v) charger. A good way to test when it's charging would be to measure the current going into the battery when the car is sitting in various configuration over a period of time.

Honestly this isn't a deal breaker for me. I use cruise control so much that I just don't care for the information right in front of me. Once I set cruise control in my ICE, I'm just steering at that point. I think people naturally don't like change and will over analyze this to death... lol

I can agree with this. At the end of the day, Tesla is a company that still has a functional business model to uphold and unless their business model is about to drastically change, the performance model will likely be more costly to the buyer than a lot of people here are making it out to be.
