Still waiting on delivery, crossing fingers it will be sooner than later. Question, I’ve been seeing people mentioning vibrations they are having. Can anyone explain what those are for when I end up getting it delivered, and is it getting fixed at the service center?
Check out this sub. Don't have a car yet so can't verify/explain anything further... but appears to just be happening with Plaids? I don't think I've seen any LR owners bringing the issue up?

NF460 VIN assigned as soon as I selected cash for payment details (I was originally waiting for VIN to be assigned to fill out my credit application). 🤩🤩

Guess they don't reveal your VIN unless you've filled out all the details
Yeah, they won't assign until you "complete your profile", although I was told I could leave financing blank until the car was ready by one SA, indeed it's the other way around. Ended up getting my wife's Y a few months later than expected due to that, haha.

Picked up my car today and drove it 180 miles back home. I wanted to keep driving. This car is amazing and the acceleration is terrifying in the best way possible. It's addictive and was hilarious when people tried to race or cut me off. I was kind of hesitant to spend so much on a car, but I have zero regrets now. Plaid is definitely worth it and I need to get a radar detector installed. I love the yoke. It was worth the 8 months wait.

No paint or interior trim defects or wrinkles?

I "have" it in a LR. But it is so subtle I do not really care about it. I will check it out more post-PPF as I do not want to take a rock chip trying to discover some issue under acceleration. There also does not seem to be a fix for it yet, so no reason to fuss with a service center over it. @jebinc is the guinea pig running the trap for us.

No, but my Alcantara cover was missing and the front hood is difficult to shut. Is that normal that you have to put a lot of pressure in the middle to shut it? I don't have one of those fancy nf vins.
DO NOT use the middle to close the frunk. Check out the manual - you want to put pressure on either side of the latch. But yes, I have always used what seems like "excess force" to close the frunk. Probably by design.

Edit: manual photo.

@Maybeplaid Screen name change to "DefinatelyPlaid"? 😆 More seriously, how is the build quality of your car? Is it a 2022, or 2021?

10-15 lbs is normal. However, check the gasket seating around the frunk, and the lid stops which are adjustable.

Try turning them in 1/4 turn at a time.

Not sure which cover you are missing. Alcantera, a synthetic suede, is in the headliner.

@cwanja Yes, my "bastard" Plaid is being used as a "test bed" in attempts to determine root cause for this dreaded, and seemingly wide-spread, "vibration at speed" issue. I offered this, "for science," and to help the community. Also, because it really annoys me, like a unspecific rattle would; and because I really don't enjoy driving it in this state (I drive the MYP instead). So, in return, they agreed to give me a S 75D (same color in and out as my bastard) and opened a case for buy-back review/approval (as a "one off customer accommodation" act). I was also granted permission to place a "cover all bases" order for a replacement, which I did on Friday. Strangely, a VIN was assigned yesterday (>72 hours after order placement) with EDD later this week.... We (service manager and I) unmatched the VIN from my order last night, for two reasons; first, buy-back process has yet to render "nay" or "ya," and second, I want a "fresh" VIN - later then the MF454 assigned and later unmatched (i.e., >NF460) to reduce (but not eliminate) the chances of getting another "vibrator" (No, @Bill Price, that's not a call to order cry 🤣).

Acts performed on my "bastard" that have not resolved the vibration include:

1) New half shafts
2) Rebalance tires and ensure rims are true
3) Adaptive air suspension 4-wheel alignment
4) Check and retorque all suspension components
5) HV pack check

I believe the next "trial and error" act will be front DU replacement. Will learn work/test plan next steps sometime today. Car has been at SC since Monday morning, 11/22. I figure #1 will be determined by week's end, perhaps the buy-back decision as well.

Some might find this frustrating, which it is, but being retired, and a problem-solver/engineer by education, I enjoy managing the potential outcome options, those being;

1) I get my Plaid back fixed and totally gone over from "stem to stern"
2) Buy-back; cash/check payout (Don't buy another Plaid for a while)
3) Buy-back; trade the bastard for a new NF460+ version

Of course, I will keep all paths "alive" for as long as possible, and will not decide which path to "lock in on," until I must. Should buy-back be approved, I will still hold off on a decision until I inspect the product resulting from option #3. Absolute worst case is my car, and Option #3, both result in cars that vibrate. In that case, if buy-back is a "yay," then I will decide either to just keep the better of the two cars, or take the money and run for six months. Even if I take mine back (no SC damage, etc.), it will be well tuned and tight (more so than the new one, even) and will wait, like the rest of the fleet, for a concrete Tesla fix. Might even be as simple as firmware for the HV-DU controller. Who knows!

So there you have it!

I know, tl;dr...

I stopped by the Delivery Center today to conduct a pre-delivery inspection. My SA found her right away. I think it was brought out just as I came by. Noticed the “FC KICKBACK” sign…unsure what that means but I think @DermMD is right that it didn’t pass inspection at some point. However, I know it came straight from CA, and it was supposedly born on 11/15. MF454 would put the born on date earlier than 11/15, so 🤷🏻‍♂️ Maybe a factory ”quality control” kickback? 15 miles on odometer, so if it’s a car that had issues, they didn’t drive too far to figure them out.

She looks perfect on the inside. No seat wrinkles. Everything aligned and snapped in correctly. Slight worm…but fortunately it’s not taking Viagra so hardly noticeable. Forgot to do a visual inspection on all the glass, but didn’t notice anything.

Some cosmetic issues on outside that I think will be remedied with follow-up appointments. All door handles work well and look well-aligned. Rear passenger door is misaligned by 1/8-1/4” and rear reverse and tail lights have some strange cloudiness that may be noticed in the photos. Also the roof glass is slightly off center which will only be an issue for me if it won’t allow the Tesla roof rack to be affixed (saw some post months ago of misaligned roof glass cracking when the racks were locked down). Underbody has no scratches.

Pick up scheduled for tomorrow morning.
Well I bounced this one. The trunk was missing the spoiler (I ordered a plaid) and the taillights were all gummed with super glue. The kicker was that the trunk also had a small dent I couldn’t see yesterday the way it was parked. Was planning to head straight to PPF, so not spending this much $ on a car needing trunk replacement or major work straight out of the lot. Especially as everyone after this week is taking delivery of NFs. I’ll wait and hope for 1Q delivery.

@impastu Sorry to see this post. But, good move kicking that bastard to the curb!

Will Tesla install winter tires before delivery if we order through them? It's getting below freezing in the Northeast and I'd hate to ruin the summers driving home
I insist on all season, however my belief is you can't ruin summer tires in winter, but instead, below about 45 or so degrees the summery soft rubber hardens up and you lose a lot of traction.
the converse (inverse? reverse?) however is true - winter tires have softer rubber, so i believe if you run them above what, 60 degrees, they will wear out very rapidly?
