They know they messed up. Let's hope they do the right thing

I wait with bated breath :)... That would be a rather large public recall with bad publicity.... I do think Tesla's intention was to provide the standard fog light assembly based cornering light, but I think they messed up the messaging and web site features information. If I'm wrong, and the factory and logistics folks actually fitted the wrong (and presumably discontinued old headlamp) to current models, I am happy to accept the retrofit, if there is one. Somehow, I don't think that is the case, although I am more than happy to be proven wrong....

I don't know. There is no mention in the premium package about lighting. Standard equipment includes adaptive led lighting and there from page makes a detailed description on what this actually is. I cannot believe this was a messaging issue. I have to believe they forgot to change the factory configuration and production. As for bad publicity, that's why they should figure out if they can retrofit and if they can quietly bring us all in and have them retrofitted. If they can't offer us something instead such as free service plan. I would rather the lights as I was promised when I bought the car. But if they just admit they mess up and try to make it up I can live with that

I don't want to be the one to have to defend Tesla, but the standard feature lists "Three-position dynamic LED turning lights", which the fog light assembly extra LED technically meets. The issue is that on another page, they list the real adaptive headlamps as:

"Adaptive Lighting

Model S now features full LED adaptive headlamps. Besides enhancing the already great styling, they also boost safety: 14 three-position LED dynamic turning lights improve visibility at night, especially on winding roads."

You 'could' take that to mean it's a standard feature as opposed to an available (but optional) feature, but Tesla could claim the latter. Also, they just changed the Bio Weapon Defense feature to the same verbiage, and we know that is a PUP option. So I think you can see the direction Tesla is headed. The only other issue is that the PUP doesn't mention any Adaptive Lighting feature.

Don't get me wrong, Tesla is guilty of poor or confusing verbiage on their web page but I'm not sure it's black and white enough to force them to retrofit everyone's headlamps... Whether they choose to offer something to their customers for the misunderstanding, I have no idea....

Again, I'm happy to be proven wrong and get some retrofitted headlights...

I cannot believe this was a messaging issue. I have to believe they forgot to change the factory configuration and production.

I'm more inclined to believe it's a messaging or communication issue as opposed to a major screw up in the parts logistic and factory process. The factory folks clearly intended to build with these lights and the sourcing and logistics people sourced them as intended. It is more plausible that someone updating the website misunderstood the different "Three-position dynamic LED turning lights" and lumped them into one. But of course, we're all guessing and it will be interesting to see if there is any formal response from Tesla on this....

Guys do not worry if it shows APH2 or 3 because mine still showing APH2 and my car went into production on August 21st, ordered on August 14th. I think sometime in the middle of august they switched to put some new hardware but it is not getting reflected for some of the buyers I got my delivery on 9/27 and you know what today I got the following mail.

So do not worry I think everyone whose production is after mid of august should have gotten the new hardware.

I'm taking delivery in the next day or two- while my specs show APH2, my DS told me a week or two ago that AEB wouldn't be operational at delivery for the reasons in the e-mail you received. I didn't post because I didn't have official confirmation like your e-mail. But now it looks like the info from my DS is supported.

I read from another post in this same forum that because of new hardware they have disabled the AEB feature.

Columbus, OH Update:

The car has arrived and I have delivery scheduled for 10am tomorrow!

Fingers crossed there aren't any major issues as I go through the checklist.

I'll be taking the car directly from Tesla to get Xpel applied from the front of the car to the mirrors + the rear luggage loading area. It's going to be super hard to hand it over so soon after picking it up. Life is hard /s

Just ordered MS 75 before they took it away, thought I would get the car earlier, however, my DS told me today that it wouldn't be ready for delivery until probably mid Dec...... seems really long to me. Anyone else ordered in the past week and got the same answer/info?

Ordered on 9/23
Order Confirmed on 9/26

Anyone know when will I get the actual time frame for delivery dates?

I ordered early Sept and delivery was late October. Just changed to late Nov to Dec. my sales guy kept trying to sell me inventory instead. I talked to factory and they said it was on track for mid Oct production so should be there late Oct still. My sales guy is pushing inventory hard so I wonder if they changed it so he could do that.

I still haven't heard back. My scheduled pickup date is this Saturday and I'm not sure if it'll be ready on time. Any more news, @Somm / @jd2017?

Just got home from picking up my model s. Got a call this morning from my DS said the car just came in and did I want to today. I said absolutely and now it is sitting in my driveway.

The car is perfect no panel gaps no paint issues just an amazing car. I hope you both get your cars soon I can’t stop smiling.

Damp Squib:

Took delivery yesterday or attempted to take delivery.

Went over quite a bit of the checklist to make sure everything was ok. Signed the delivery paperwork. As I was about to leave, AC didn't work. That was the one thing I didn't check and lo and behold it was not working. They ended up giving me a loaner 100D and stated they will get it fixed and deliver home.

So disappointed.

You know what disappointed me the most? The DS did not apologize until 10 mins after I showed him the AC was not working. His first words should have been sorry. 80K/70K vehicle, AC not working on delivery and he is not in the least bit apologetic. I don't think they get it, that this is a 80K vehicle and these things are not acceptable. Its like we have alternatives, we'll fix it, not a big deal. Not acceptable.

It was fixed the next day and got delivered the day after.

Interesting conversation with the truck driver who brought my car. He said hope he doesn't see me again but that he sees too many people often. I said the thing is the car is worth it and he goes I don't see it.

Mine now shows OCt 21- Nov 2. But my financing expires Oct 17, so I would have to reapply. My Delivery specialist said "should be ready to go before then" Not sure if I believe her

Just checked mine. As of last night was showing Oct 23-Nov 4. Woke up to Oct 9-Oct 23. Hopefully she's right! I am actually signing my loan tomorrow to lock the .99 financing (expires on 9/30 for me) and they are going to deliver directly to the house instead of the store. If you are willing to pay a little early, see if that's an option for you. Although I think the only reason they offered is because it allows them to show it on the 3rd quarter results.
