Need advice from all you sage, seasoned folk:

I now have a VIN! And instructions to make final payment (I'm paying cash in full) BUT my EDD was moved to August (from July 15-22.) Do I really transfer funds this early?? Cash flow is not an issue - I've had these monies socked away in a dedicated account for just this purpose but is there any other reason to not pay until I have a firmer delivery date??

If your state allows it, I would not pay until the last possible point (e.g. at time of delivery if allowed). Texas does not grant us that ability.

when I bought my MYP I didn't make final payment until I was standing next to the car and had decided to accept delivery. Then I processed it in my Tesla account through Plaid (payment processor, not the car) in about 30 seconds. Then the SA was able to add car to my account and it was all done.

Exactly!

When I bought my Model 3, I was so concerned about hurting the battery at first. The only real guidance you need is:

-Don't supercharge for daily needs
-Charge roughly to ~80% each night (some say 90% max, but 80% definitely is not going to hurt you)
-Don't constantly drive 100% to 0%.
-Don't let the car sit at 100% for days on end, try to drive it within an hour or two if hitting the mark (or, quite frankly, just charge to 95% max ever unless you really, really, really need that last 5% - which I bet you will almost never).

That's about it.

You're fine - enjoy the car, it's extremely unlikely you will ever put even 300 miles on it before needing to recharge anyway (including roadtrips - because of how superchargers are spread out). It's also extremely unlikely if your battery does degrade it will ever actually impact your life or usage of the car.
another benefit of leasing. I don't plan to abuse the battery, but I envision I'll be in the "charge to 90% most of the time" camp - maybe, MAYBE 95%. not sure how much they degrade - while awaiting my first electric baby, I am trying to get past predicted range anxiety (which is why I never got one earlier) - with chargers, a claimed 400 mile range, etc. I should be fine....

Relatively, sure. but remember DC goes direct as DC. AC has to be converted through your charger in your car. It is definitely more taxing for the car but not necessarily the battery. Then again, it is all relative. 90% of your charging will be at home. 11kwh isn't a ton so we're splitting hairs but definitely it is better for the pack to dump the least you need.

As @DukeofURL points out, I also time my charging sessions in winter to condition the battery. If it is set to 32A or higher, my battery usually finishes charging and then freezes before I drive again. Then my pack needs to heat itself up instead of using the thermal energy byproduct from charging to accomplish the pack conditioning. The nice thing about Teslas is that you have charging speed flexibility. Get your EVSE and wiring together where you can charge however fast at home makes you comfortable, but you'll soon see there is nothing to be gained from charging very quickly at home. In fact, you'll probably lose more in terms of time and enjoyment if you pace and charge only as fast as required. Your battery will be conditioned (big safety benefit in winter due to loss of regen braking and overall sluggishness (cold battery is both top end limited and regen limited)).

Either way, Tesla has you covered.
brilliant, I'd never have considered timing the charging in the winter. Let's say it's pretty cold out, and the garage is what, 40 degrees or so? If I want to leave my home comfortably at a set time how would I best accomplish that - set the charging to start at a certain time, i.e. if I believe it will take an hour, start it 1 hour earlier, or can I let it know when I want it to be ready - and then how does that tie in with preconditioning the interior, and is there a precondition on the batteries as well? (I'm not using drag race mode to pull out of my garage!!!)
thanks for any tips. This is like ninja level stuff I never considered.
I HAD expected, that for most of the week, I'd possibly be lazy and not plug in, and expect to plug in Friday nights to have the car locked and loaded for weekend trips...but the preconditioning has me thinking otherwise.
I'm also now frankly scared of future rodent issues eating on soybean covered wires - Just read about that yesterday - so now trying to decide how to make my garage the 9th level of hell for rodents.
Thanks!!!!

I assume you should choose “cash” option and just contact your SA.I think they will need wire transfer for biggest part of pay and some part as a cashier check at delivery

There are an awful lot of reasons to buy a Tesla but I'm not convinced the purchase experience is one of them.
To be fair, the point up to hitting the order button is way better than dealing wiht any dealership. It's the period between that and taking delivery that's a bit rough. :)

Mine also said "August" as soon as I got the VIN, then a few hours later I got a narrow July date range, then that evening I had a tentative appt showing on my account, along with a text saying they would reach out to me as dates are subject to some fluctuation. In CA, you don't need to pay until you take delivery. Discuss with the DS (delivery specialist) when they call to finalize appt and arrangements.

Some other observations as I experience them:
- waze works 3x better on the browser - loads fast, screen moves, really a far cry from my 2019 raven
- for previous model s owners coming to the refresh, you’re going to LOVE the phone/key
- more I drive with the yoke the more I love it. I’m used to cars with turn signals on the wheel so no sweat, but honestly it’s a very fast learning curve, not rocket science here. I can see some ppl being dramatic about it, generally speaking thats nonsense. It’s easy, it’s fun, its unique, cool experience.
- glad I got the CF - not knocking wood, people like what they like, but if you’re into CF and don’t want wood but are tempted by a sooner delivery…I’d say wait for the CF car. Also glad I got red. maybe my 2019 was just dirty, it was red too, but the red on this car seems deeper, richer. Could def be, and prob is, in my head, but FWIW
- wall charging - I used the 110v a bit, it charged slightly faster/more consistently than the 2019. Example, if I averaged 2-3/hr over a 24hr period, this car averages 3-4mi over that same period
- AC seats - FINALLY! And they work well
Wow I never even thought to use Waze in the browser..

lets look at this logically... all we do here is bitch about not getting a VIN :) how positive would you be?
And panel gaps, veins in the steering wheel, Tesla stock prices, price increases, order of priority for deliveries, LR vs. Plaid, SA's, people driving the same car for too long. We also get a healthy dose of people bitching about people bitching. Other than that, things are mostly positive. 🤣

Quick thought/request: given that the new front brake rotors are 30mm (a little over an inch) larger than previous Model S, and seeing how much of the space within 21” wheels the front brake setup is taking, could it be that the 19” wheels had to be redesigned to have a wider inside barrel in order to fit the larger brakes?

Could someone who has already taken delivery (@omarsultan @Atomadam @Hayseed_MS etc.) please take a photo of their front wheel, fully showing the brakes, “eye-level” with the center of the wheel? Much appreciated!

I have seen two 11444 RNs on this page (2508), yours and one that already delivered, both SoCal. I know everyone is saying that the RNs don't mean much, but man, 11444 here, to pick up at Cathedral City. Just so much hope there.

Do you have a contact there? I sent them an email last week. Did not receive a reply.

Cheers
In your case, the issue is the 19" wheels. As everyone here can attest, there is no evidence any have been delivered, and they are "supposed" to start in August at the earliest (certainly for Plaid). I have had a hard time reaching my SA, but I eventually get through by calling a few times throughout the day; sometimes I get an email response, sometimes not. My SA is Cole and I've also spoken with Tony, the sales manager (I'd avoid April there; she has been wrong about everything she has ever told me). Cole's email is [email protected]. Always, CC: [email protected]. Phone is 760-321-0821, Option 3 for Sales. You can also call order support in Fremont at 510-249-3100 if you can't reach anyone locally. They can look at your RN record and see what it says.

I am in the 90% camp--IMO, not a lot of benefit in going above 90% on a daily basis and you car will yell at you if you do it more than a couple of days in a row. The range the car shows for daily charging in 50%-90% - I think there is no wrong answer in that range.

Few people who got VINs had EDD updated to August but eventually changed to a specific date range in July. Wait for a few hours or a day and you will probably see an EDD in July. That's my educated guess based on the experiences of others who received VINs.
Also, try not to transfer funds early as there's a chance, though unlikely, that the VIN might go away (due to the car having a defect during inspection say) and your delivery might be delayed. Of course, speak to your delivery center/SA to get info on where the car currently is and when it can be expected to be delivered. Good luck!

Has anyone had issues with making changes to their order? We spoke with a person who said they switched our order to Plaid, however the change never took place. We were told within a hour max. Gave it a day still no change, called again and they said they don’t know why they can’t change it just yet and would call back later today(which probably won’t happen, it’s tesla after all). They also stated they did not see a change made or even requested. Just wonder how some of your changes went? I have never had this issue before with all the tesla we bought. Normally the change happens quickly and that day.

As an admin on a financial forum, I must take umbrage with your characterization of boards like ours--where there is minimal moderation and 3500+ members manage to be civil and supportive 99.99% of the time. It's not "over-policing" that makes for a healthy forum, it's proper policing.
This is a confusing post. I wasn't talking about properly policed forums. I was talking about overly-policed forums creating a forced, dishonest sense of positivity.

This would be like me saying child abuse is wrong, and then you take umbrage because your children are not abused...
