Wiki Model S Delivery Update

That's TOTALLY strange? Of course I could be wrong, but I'd almost swear it was present when I first bought my 2018. But I'm POSITIVE it's been present for at least a year on my car if not more. Could be due to updated firmware, but I would think you would have that by now?
At the time of sale back in June, it was still not present. Or it was so subtle, I never noticed it was there. Personally, not a fan of the feature. Especially with how quiet the cars already are, plus the future feature of ANC. I wish it was a setting (if not already) to turn it off.

Can they do anything since I'm taking delivery in Scottsdale? Feels like one of those "Not our problems, you should call Scottsdale" for them.

I was actually considering driving up to Scottsdale to beg and even offer my license/insurance papers so a family member could take delivery with my permission. Even with the four hour roundtrip drive it'd be worth it.
Yes. Victor arranged an earlier delivery date for me (at Raintree) because I was not able to get there on the date they assigned. He was very helpful. Definitely worth stopping by.

I'm on the opposite path. I used to add it to all my cars...Porche's , MB's, McLaren, etc. It seemed critical to me. Then 6 months later I'd give away $6000-$7000 worth of PPF and get basically no return on it. Then with my pre-refresh SLR I thought well, screw it, I'm not doing it. I had some chips and whatnot, but it certainly did not hurt the resale value of the car and if I didn't inspect it super closely then I'd never even notice. I've probably, no exaggeration, given away $30k+ of PPF over the last 6-7 years. That's a LOT of paintwork that could have been done if I needed to.

Now with my Plaid I skipped it too. I'm 7000 miles in so it's too late. The car looks fine. Yep, there's some chips and whatnot, but at this point, whatever. It doesn't hurt that I own a touch up paint company, so I'll use it to make some videos too. 😁
I agree that it is probably not worth it if you do not intend on keeping your car for very long. Also consideration should be given to how much gravel is on local roads. Some areas have very little. Here in AZ we have tons (literally  ).

Owning a touch up paint company is the next best thing. 😁

A little blurb from Motor Trend about the Plaid.
Thanks for posting. It is amazing that they can't even write three paragraphs without getting major facts wrong. FSD does not offer "hands-off driving capabilities." It does promise to include those in the future, but this is dangerous misinformation for MT to be spreading. This is especially the case since of every Tesla crash caused by a drunk driver is immediately blamed on FSD and it gets reported that way in the national media.

I just came across this tidbit... maybe applicable?
Yes, I think I can speak to this. My car is currently with a very Tesla experienced audio and radar detection equipment. I am in week two of the build which is expected to take 3 weeks. Right off the bat when he started to work on the car he noticed the 16V battery and said he couldn’t continue without adding an external battery. He said at 16v‘s you will have problems with after market components. So he recommended the battery, ordered it, got it yesterday. It’s hooked up and driving the front speakers with no errors and the voltage is constant. After he is done with the audio, he is also installing an escort radar max ci system which will also be powered by the external battery we added. How are you currently powering your escort? If its off of the 16v, yes its very possible you are going to burn it out.

MT also has the warranty information incorrect. They state the Model S has warranty for 48 months 50k miles which is only half correct since the battery and electric motors are covered for 8 years or 150k miles. They only show 48 months/50k miles for the entire car :(

I thought the manual states it's a 12V but I'll have to look.

Here we go!!!!🔥

All of this may be true, but in terms of rear cross traffic, Tesla has left out the required hardware. The rear mounted camera can't see what they would need to see to be effective, and the car doesn't have the radar sensors that are normally used to get rear cross traffic/pedestrian alerts. It's a shame.

I know there is side collision detection for autopilot Is it active at all times like emergency front collision braking?

Look what I just found in Tesla inventory... ;) I might as well wait although I still don't have a VIN yet but my est delivery date is holding steady at 9/29/21 - 9/30/21...this one has wood interior trim and the 19" wheels (although I have my own 21" Signature forged wheels) and doesn't have FSD (which ahem, doesn't really exist yet anyhow). But, SOMEONE should grab this one! The white interiors are coming! @umair239 @Aleks0404 @Kondo

I was hoping you'd show up here. :)

I'm not the guy that has the Escort... the guy I quoted in that post is. I was just trying to help him out by quoting what you had posted in another thread.

I think I'm not the only one that *really* appreciates all the information on the new low voltage system, thank you very much!

@lzolman

Hopefully the above post helps with your Escort situation!

Edit: why can't I get that tag to work? NM, got it!

So wait how much for avg ppf price and is it totally necessary? I’ve had a bunch of cars and never did it but I’m not crazy about my cars. Am I like screwed without it? I don’t even know wtf ppf is… sorry noob.
I have had my car for 6 years. Getting my Tesla in two weeks. I never noticed the rock chips ets until I read this tread! Now I can't help but look at! Still going to pass on PPF though I have thought about it.

Without a PR dept. to help fact check these, the major media outlets are lost. That being said, MT ranks the Plaid as the #2 Luxury Full Sized Sedan behind only the ICE MB S class and ahead of the Audi A8, BMW 7 series, Lexus LS, etc. Not sure I would put it in the "Luxury" sedan category but whatever.

Hardly the hack job/ click bait "waste of money" Edmunds review and overall it builds a solid consensus from the press that the refresh is a great car with build quality, ownership experience and the odd yoke as negatives. Negatives that we all, for the most part, acknowledge as the table stakes we have to give up to own this car.

The thing I worry about the most if the build quality because after finally getting the car (hopefully soon), I want to be enjoying it and not having it sit at the Service Center. Oh well, gotta pay to play.
