Power Folding Mirrors

Someone posted earlier that they were turned down from adding the new mirrors to their order because the car had just started production, and since the don't pre-wire the mirrors they couldn't just throw the new ones on. That makes me think a retrofit won't be as cheap as you'd hope, as they need to route the new wiring harnesses up there. It's not as easy as just plugging the new ones in.

Agree 100%

I just received the response that I could make the change, but that as yet they couldn't predict if it would effect delivery (I asked specifically because I want delivery this year) - she promised I would get confirmation soon. I don't have/ haven't heard from a Delivery Specialist yet, so perhaps that is why they are more reticent? I would be very happy to have a DS to talk to!

The GPS positioning would be great - along with raising the air suspension for my driveway

That was me after talking to HQ (sales) about my car. It may be that only my car didn't have the wire harness because it was in production before they switched the line. I was hoping I was on the edge.

I did compare the model S with my X5. The model S is actually wider. But with mirrors the X5 is wider. So the mirrors on the S dont stick out that much compared... So powerfolding is not a killer for me. Heated mirrors is on the other hand important. i hope that is standard...

Now that the ordering page has changed to include the folding mirrors I can't check the previous version. Didn't save an webarchive of my order. :-(

But, IIRC the non-folding Tech package mirrors were heated.

Scheduled delivery 11/8...

Requested new mirrors Friday. Confirmed on paperwork end of business today.

Delivery still 11/8 and we signed our paperwork, waiting on countersignature from Tesla.

Let you guys know tomorrow.

S*H*I*T! That was the only thing missing on the car, really hope tesla will be able to retrofit it here in Europe, especially France where roads and parking are so narrow.
It might be included in the Tesla Service "Hardware upgrades" !! Or at least reduced price for Tesla Service owners (ex 250$ for Tesla Service owner and 400$ for others, Tesla Service owners just pay for the system, not the tech hands).

Tesla countersigned. Delivery still 11/8 and we're adding the power folding mirrors to the car.

Got someone to drive us to LAX in an EV lined up (using our Active E), One Way Flight to SJC confirmed, Model S car service confirmed for pickup at SJC and drop off at the Factory in Fremont.... I guess I'll be burning Jet Fuel to get the Model S, and that's about it.

I'm definitely interested in a retrofit. Not because I drive that close to anything, but because I routinely find myself folding the mirrors by hand in parking lots after I've parked.

Here in CA, a lot of parking spots are quite small, and there are also a lot of very clumsy or inconsiderate people walking around. More than once I've come back to the car when I've forgotten to fold the mirrors in, and found one of them knocked out of alignment by someone walking too close beside the car.

Having them just fold themselves when I put the car in park would be a huge time and effort saver.

Agree 100%. The same happens in Italy.

Looks like a new addition, but yes, you appear to be correct. I have an inquiry in to my DS to see what the deal is for cars confirmed but not yet produced.

They also axed the aero wheels.
That's a little weird, since the aeros still appear to be "coming soon" with winter tires in the online shop. Hmm. Actually I should call to see what it would cost to order a set. They're more useful in the winter (they keep snow off the brake rotors).

Yes, a few days ago they added the aero wheel/winter tire setup to the store. I imagine that's how they're planning to sell off the remaining unsold stock.

Snows not really going to stick to the rotors. There's only a fraction of a millimeter of clearance between the pads and the rotors, and once you're in motion both remain warm or hot to the touch. If snow happens to accumulate at rest, the pads clamp with such force that all the snow will be knocked off the very first time you hit the brakes, probably as you pull out of your parking spot.
