Hmm, I disagree. A purely resistive heater will have an efficiency of about 1 all the time; a heat pump may have a coefficient of performance of say 5 in moderate temperature gradients, reducing as the temperature delta rises. However, the COP can't ever get lower than 1 in theory, because any energy used by the compressor will still eventually be delivered as heat.
Certainly there's no physical reason why a heat pump can't work below 273K, which is an entirely arbitrary value we just happen to be familiar with; after all, when you make liquid nitrogen or any other cryogenic substance, you're using a heat pump to pump heat out, and you're able to reach very low temperatures.
The theoretical efficiency of a heat pump is related to the temperature difference you're 'pumping against', and the absolute temperature (like Carnot efficiency for heat engines, it's largely equivalent).
A heat pump may become less effective, though, outside of its design temperature range; depending on the working fluid, complications like ice formation (i.e. insulation)
I guess u kinda need resistance heating to heat the air after it gets chilled by aircon to be an effective demister .I'm thinking maybe that's why Tesla went with resistance heating. My A3 etron was efficient at collecting waste heat from transmission, electronics,battery or engine. Drive a few kms and would get free heat from transmission whilst petrol engine hadn't even started. Very complex cooling circuits but smart. Electric heating when u did use it killed the range!And its not just a comfort thing - statutory requirement to have a working demist heater. So Tesla stuck with the KISS principle. We are lucky here in Australia: we are far more likely to need the (efficient) aircon than the (inefficient) heater.

Wow, so you ordered 10 days ago and already got a VIN. That seems to be really quick. I was trying to hold on for LR RWD also, but gave in and ordered SR+ on 26/8/19. I only gave in cause they threatened me with the price hike end of this week. So far not expecting VIN or anything for another month or two, though the order page suggested October delivery, I have been keeping my expectation more on November delivery with possibility to drag into the start of December.Found a VIN: 5YJ3F7EA7KF4431xx

Finally happening, had my heart set on a LR RWD but figured that wouldn't happen... SR+ it is!
When did you place your order? I placed mine in June but changed to the white interior the day after it was offered. October is looking more likely.
My thinking is because mine is being delivered on the back of a truck to ACT, their invoice/sales terms say that delivery occurs when it's handed to the shipping company. This might boost their end of quarter number if the invoice/settle these vehicles.
Hi Fumiphobic - We both ordered in July probably as soon as White interior opened (or no more than a few days since). Let's hope there is a shipment of white interior to Perth sometime this year! Having said that, there isn't really a lot of demand for white yet. Only 11 out of 219 I noted at the time i did the analysis in the spreadsheet had white interior listed, so we are in a significant minority at present. Having said that - US and Europe owners who have white say its magnificent - so I figure its worth waiting for! Cheers. I’ve recently been on a tour of the Tesla factory in Fremont. They were making LHD and RHD cars intermittently on the same line. So for example I saw 3 LHD, followed by 1 RHD, 2 LHD, 1 RHD... There is no need to shut down the line or do a separate production run. It surprised me, but is apparently easy for them to do as there are only limited parts that change.Seems at this point unlikely Tesla would want to stop production on a line to shift back to LHD, only to a few weeks later take the line down again to shift back to RHD

Some delivery specialists have told me that I need to wait until the following day to purchase software without it adding to the LCT. On one occasion I believe I bought EAP on my phone on the way home from delivery without paying LCT. On my other 2 cars, I purchased AP and FSD at a later date with no LCT. You can definitely avoid paying LCT on FSD or AP if you wait. Tesla used to charge a higher amount after delivery so it usually worked similar but I was always able to save at least a few hundred dollars. Calculate it first and ask your delivery specialist what the price is after delivery.Hi,

I've set my expectations to late Sept or October due to the late dates and the change in colour.
Been reading this forum for a couple of hundred pages which has made the wait worse but entertaining.
Anyway. To fill the time until the car arrives I've been thinking about some projects until the car arrives
1. HPWC install mod - I've seen here or elsewhere people discussing putting a 3phase plug and socket in line in there install at home. I originally thought this to be silly given that cheaper just to get electrician to install hard wired. But been thinking about road trips. If you put a 3 phase plug on the HPWC you could take it with you on a road trip (you not going to need it at home when you are out road tripping) then could be used at sites with 3 phase outlet. Any reason why this would not work or not a good idea?
2. Looking into playing with the HPWC to maximising solar usage ( i.e limit it to the sollar output during home charging when I can) just started looking into some other forums and found a starting point anyone local have experience or good links let me know.
Other item not related to above but interesting given some comments in this forum. I was interested in FSD but purchasing that on order puts the sr+ into luxury car yeah range so $8.5k becomes more like $10k. I asked the Tesla rep why not just purchase FSD after delivery to avoid luxury tax? They said tax would still be applied if purchased after so no difference in total price. Tesla rep so not 100% how accurate and I'm not sure how that really works when it is 2 different purchases kinda like buying new wheels or tuning a ice car. Didn't sounds right. Anytime else heard something similar?
59k would be the price of the Standard Range before taxes, registration, Autopilot and + options. You can actually order this car by phone and it would be the exact same car as your order just software activated limitations (lower range, no heated rear seats etc). It's probably possible to still remove these + options before delivery, they can also be paid for and unlocked later.Got my invoice earlier today - #501.
This is for a red SR+, ordered 1st week of June, financed, delivery 24 September in Perth.
Interesting about the break up of the invoice:
Line 1: Model 3 for $59,000
Line 2: SR+ Rear Wheel Drive for $7,000
(+ Red Paint + Dealer Delivery)
Wonder why they did it like that? Not like they were going to sell me a car for $59,000 (though that'd be nice haha).
