Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Let's face it. They had 3.5 years to plan for this. They made no plans. They took money with representations about priority and couldn't be bothered to deal with it in good faith.

I don't think it's fair to assume bad faith -- I think they're overwhelmed and overworked. But I do agree they had 3.5 years to plan for this, and the experience with how it worked in other regions.

My patience failed me over the weekend so I sent a polite email to Tesla Brisbane deliveries yesterday and received an instant automatic reply.

"We're working hard preparing for our first deliveries of Model 3 in Brisbane and will be in contact with you shortly. We appreciate your patience in this busy and exciting period and we're looking forward to getting you behind the wheel!".

I feel like that mailbox might not be monitored at the moment due to the amount of deliveries they need to make. Also, I need more patience, can someone send me some?

Seems to me they made plans to bring the cars out in containers over a longer period of time (rather than a roro) so that they could have a reasonably orderly delivery process. Tesla australia then chose a delivery specialist in autonexus to help get the cars through the process faster. Not sure how that evolves into a statement that tesla made no plans.

'seems' why do you say that? Is there some evidence?

Even if true, why do they not deal with early reservations first. And why do ppl who never reserved get dealt with and others have no hidden vin at all. Why be an apologist for something that is ostensibly and objectively not in good faith for the ppl who put up money years ago.

But bad faith is them actually attempting to deceive, or mislead us, and they are not doing that, which is my basis. I do agree with you about a random and inconsistent approach, which is maddening.

There is a big difference between not acting in good faith and acting to deceive. I never suggested the latter. They have failed to do what they said they would.

Well after waiting years to be finally able to order M3
Ordered early June, with delivery date August
I was over the moon with excitement, sun shine and rainbows

Patiently waiting, after all what's a 3 months wait in the grand scheme of things
As August drew to a close with zero contact from Tesla, unanswered emails
The Sun was setting on the rainbows, to be replaced by dark clouds and sense of foreboding and the feeling that Tesla doesn't really give a shite

Been so long friends and family have stopped asking

Not sure how I'm going to feel when the car eventually shows up
unless I imagined the whole thing....

They have responded quite promptly to my email in the past when I first responded to the email that included their invoice.

Then once I got a call re-scheduling from 02/09 to 10/09, I was asked what time and offered 9AM. I accepted. Later I sent an email asking if that could be shifted to 10AM instead as I have to drop my kids at school. They didn't reply, but I saw my appointment time change a couple of hours later.

So they are reading it.

Wow!! Such invective.

The cars were never going to be made to order. It was stated that there would be production runs and that the orders would be matched to the stock.

Reservatiion holders got first right of selection according to what was put up for selection to buy off the order page on the website. That was the priority of ordering. If you didn't like what was offered then you could wait, or change, but lost your place in queue.

It would appear that you will get your car if you reserved early, ordered early what was initially offered and the matched vehicles were loaded on the first boats. It now also appears that it is likely that there are additional vehicles on the boats that are available to buy without having made an order even until now. In fact, once all the initial vehicles have been unloaded, you just may be able to go to a showroom, pick a car from the inventory and get it a few days later - maybe just weeks after those that stood in line, paid a reservation fee and waited 3+ years.

And so what if they are a few weeks late in coming or delayed in getting delivered. I can't see where there was a guarantee on timing given. Sure, there was scheduling and, I'm sure, best intentions by those involved, however there is no point in shooting the mesenger.

If there are organisational problems at HO, then is that a surprise, given how Tesla has always done things? Pretty damn good for such a startup with the constraints they have been loaded onto them, imo.

Fact is, if those that are complaining had an alternative, then most would have gone the alternate route, however there is nothing currently like a Tesla and at the price, and is unlikely to be for a while yet.

If you start with lower expectations, you will be less likely to be disappointed.

It is clear from the google sheet that most of the time reservation holders have been called or booked in first, but clearly not always. Also I have seen things like me getting booked in on the 26th and they told me that was the earliest date in Adelaide that was free, (I only ordered in June, no res) but then others have since been called and given earlier dates in Adelaide, despite me being told the 26th was the earliest. So maybe even if they haven't booked all reservation holders yet they are still keeping some priority in mind.
I don't know that I would have got a call yet except my 3rd party finance company emailed them asking for an invoice and ended up going back and forth with them to get some things sorted, once they were I got a call within an hour to book the delivery. I'd bet that if I was just waiting and the finance company or I hadn't emailed Tesla I wouldn't have a call yet. Though maybe it also helps I ordered a P+.

But yes clearly not all reservation holders are getting priority. Hard for me to say as I am not one, but some people need to chill out and just wait for their call or politely email, and really if you get your car 2 days or a week after someone else who didn't reserve does it really matter that much? we aren't talking long time periods.

You've just described Brexit.
