Tesla Model 3 in Australia

I just received my invoice earlier this week along with that form. If you could see the whole form, it is just a dealer authorisation to register form, not a registration form. So literally the simple form to fill out which authorises Tesla to register your car.

Tesla supplies slimline plates by default (black / white letters). I’d just tick slimline just in case, fill out your name and license number, sign and email back. Everything else done for you.
That makes sense now.

Upon receiving the call to confirm a delivery date & time, has anyone tried asking to pick up the HPWC in advance so that it can be installed before bringing the car home?

I believe people have been receiving the delivery call up to a fortnight before delivery, hence thinking it could be an opportunity to have the charger installed ahead of the pickup date for the car.

With M3 the HPWC is shipped with the car, so not possible to get it before delivery unless you buy one from the service centre.

You can charge using the UMC for the first few days like most M3 new owners.

I have a new HPWC delivered with my M3 - but already had one at home, and one at work, so it is for sale in Melbourne $500.

I still haven’t got mine installed. The quotes were a bit high and I’ve been a bit slack finding better ones (Sydney). UMC is slow but it gets the job done.

That was my experience also. I did ask during the call if I could pick it up before, but the delivery specialist said that it will not be available before the car is available, so I will only get it with the car. I did use the mobile charger that came with the car for the first 2 weeks to charge from standard 10A socket in the garage until I got the HPWC installed.

for me only the front was a slim plate.

For those in Victoria... Melbourne Delivery told me that they fit slimline plates front and back as standard.

They also told me that if you have custom plates with less than 6 characters then the slimline plates will not be wide enough to cover the entire mounting block.

A bit of research at VICRoads showed that this is true for the standard custom range. But if you go to any of the other custom ranges, the slimline plates are full width regardless of number of Characters.

So, I got "Carbon Fibre" plates which should look good with the midnight silver and are full width slimline with 3 characters. (And were the same price as the standard custom plates.)

Mini (slim line) Euro premium plates are wide and cover the whole mounting block.

Tesla called again, and we've got a delivery date on the 10th! Funny thing is, I will be overseas next week so it will be the missus taking delivery but not me... It feels a little anti climatic after 3 years of wait. :(:D

On the phone I mentioned the 12V battery problem and the paint defect. The delivery specialist said those were problems of the last quarter, and I can expect the car to be "immaculate" (quoting his own words). Let's see how much Tesla improves from Q3!

Congrats!

Your car arrived November, delivery on the 10th.

My car arrived August, still no delivery date.

Jethro, what are you doing to me?!

I got my car in Q3 and had no issues with paint or battery or delivery or anything else for that matter. I don't think you can base Tesla quarterly quality or change in that quality based on a small number of experiences. I suspect in Q3 there would have been many times more cars delivered with no issues than there were ones with issues, however human nature dictates that the ones with issues are vocal about it and the ones with no issues are quietly content. Thus you hear a lot about issues but have very little information about the ones with no issues making it look like majority had issues where actually only a small subset had issues.
That being said, it still makes them look bad if even a few have issues and they should tighten their quality control to not deliver cars with those issues.

Agree with @Priit, I also got my car in Q3 and no issues with paint or battery or delivery or anything.
Also agree with @Priit that more cars are delivered defect free than we realise - people seem to post when they have a complaint and therefore unfairly skewing the product reputation.

It's possible also that Tesla stopped delivering cars with defects, like they have with mine.

The cars have issues, they're just not giving them to customers like that anymore, which is a good thing I guess. But it means we don't hear about those issues, they're handled in secret before delivery.

I hope you get yours soon!

The delivery specialist also mentioned they have a detailer on site. So hopefully the Q4 cars will indeed be immaculate.
