    Fiat Centoventi concept

I think the most interesting aspect is the modular battery, and that they can take it one step further: - have battery modules interchangeable with home storage (Powerwall type). When you are doing daily commute, have extra storage at home for solar and time shifting when you are going on a...

Long term planning - solar roof + powerwall + heatpump?

Hi, Our house in the Bay Area is about 20 years old, and some things may be reaching the end of typical life. Already some home insurers wouldn't take us because the roof is too old. Our furnace still works but who knows how much longer it will last. Our home doesn't have AC and it would be...

    Data sharing among cars

Theorizing and thinking out loud: More and better cameras and sensors are good, but why be limited to just your own car's sensors? Cars should share camera and sensor data with each other, effectively allowing cars to see through walls and around corners. Even parked cars can contribute to the...

    Slacker explicit content setting

I wish the Model S Slacker interface had the setting to enable/disable explicit content. The Slacker website and mobile app have this capability, and it would be nice to not have to worry about inappropriate songs popping up when the kids are in the car. The other day we were talking about...

Poll: Which sub-$40k 200+ mile BEV will come out first?

Just for grins and bragging rights, let's have a poll about which car will be first. I know we like to sweat the details, so here is my attempt to constrain the parameters: When I say "base car" below I mean the cheapest configuration of a car that can go 200 miles. 1. Price: under $40k USD...

Aquarium / cannery row on Sat

My wife is taking the kids to the Aquarium on Saturday while I'm in the conference, but the hotel doesn't have a shuttle and she would rather not drive and look for parking and all that. I think I'll duck out during the coffee break to drop them off and then pick them up at the end of the day...

Weird foam coming from crack in garage floor

Noticed this dried up foamy stuff under the car, like it dripped off and crystallized. Not salt (bay area). Maybe residual car wash soap? I go to Foster City touchless, but it has been weeks since I last went. Or something else I picked up from the road?

High Speed Performance Upgrade (for autobahn)

I found this mention of a "High Speed Performance Upgrade" in Germany interesting. Do you think it's just software? Or a taller gear that gives up some 0-60 acceleration for a higher top speed? And with a taller gear would it cruise at high speeds more efficiently? Or will the same amount...

    Teslive charging?

Side mirror reverse tilt with textile interior?

So, if someone is in the market for a ~$50k EV, which is the better buy? Some of the early reviews have already tagged the Rav4 EV as a plausible substitute for the base Model S, but it makes for an interesting comparison of 2 rather different cars with similar powertrains. 1. Both have...
