Tesla Video Collection
Tesla claims video data collected is anonymized (individual owner data stripped) however, if Tesla is being sued for a failing vehicle component does anyone doubt Tesla will not be able to tie the video of a vehicle crash to...
Sadly, many people do not fully read a post or have strong comprehension skills. They only read the bullets / highlights. Just trying to accommodate all comprehension levels. ;)
Federal governments have decades of experience and data on distracted driving as it impacts public transport (planes, buses, and trains). These drivers have been monitored for decades As approval for Level 3 /4 autonomy is sought, the regulators are going to want to see data for the person...
There used to be an assumption / best practice that the user configures the car BEFORE they start driving (set your temperature, adjust your seat, set your audio, etc.). We have more distracted driving because drivers want to multi-task - BY DEFAULT.
See that interior facing camera in the...
Well thought out and UI/UX design considers the needs of a wide consumer base (size of text fonts, reach to controls, etc.). The dependency on one screen for interacting with the vehicle means nearly everything you need to do in the car revolves around the design and flexibility of the UI.
If...
I did not say the car was mine. I saw the vehicle at a Tesla store and wondered if the condition could be easily corrected or was considered within specification.
I stated in the original post 'Anyone with an automotive background to provide some guidance'.
Do you have an automotive...
Never had a problem, they insure 2 homes, multiple cars, 2 motorcycles, and a RV for us. Left Liberty Mutual and have zero interest in Allstate.
Have not had an accident or ticket in 20+ years. Service is excellent and reliable.

Spent some time at the Tesla store in Walnut Creek, California to finally get a closer look at the Model 3. While a rope line was present, access was fairly easy. I have traditionally liked chrome trim, however I am strongly considering having my Model 3 receive a stealth-black-outed exterior...
Congrats... Enjoy your car
Many others did not have the same delivery experience but thanks for thinking about someone other than yourself.

If what was stated was by law true, it would preclude service reps from driving the car in preparation for delivery. It is important to distinguish contractual law from Tesla internal preference.
Add an addendum to your purchase contract to get that test drive before signing the final contract...
More the reason why Tesla employees should perform this QA work for a $50K+ vehicle before delivery (and sign-off having done it).
Laws vary from state to state but good ones require disclosure of lot damage / damage in-transit and the customer having to sign a document demonstrating notification.
The story looks like a quite rare mini-lemon
I don't have access to Tesla' service / delivery records. Do you know more?
Tesla went an extra mile here it seems to make things right
I would prefer they go the extra mile BEFORE my delivery date and inspect the vehicle for damage and imperfects...
Thank you for sharing this very important assessment and conclusion-to-date. I regret the number of posts in this thread questioning your motivation for sharing this unfortunate circumstance.
Tesla appears to have resolved this BUT it is a reminder with any 'from the ground-up' product there...
So many people want 'White Glove' service and many feel they are entitled to it. Everyone can claim having a busy personal schedule necessitating a home delivery.
I suspect Tesla will and should charge for Home Delivery @ a per hour rate.
He did send an email to me thanking me for my...
Must have gotten distracted fiddling with that screen trying to get the rear seat heating controls to function while making their way to grandmom' house (listening to a jolly and inspiring song on the recently enabled FM radio). Looks like someone took the song literally.
Musk created the car of the future now. All these knobs that people feel nostalgic about will be GONE anyway as soon as FSD is here.
Did Elon provide you a date for when Full Self Driving (FSD) will be available for use?
2018?
2019?
2020?
2021?
Thanks for providing the link. I find these reviews very helpful and would not be possible without the assistance of Model 3 owners.
Does anyone know if Tesla will provide vehicles for journalist to review?
I don't expect any gotcha moments but (once again) we still do not have a conclusive...
I Think You May Be Missing The Point - Change For the Sake of Change
There are best practices for the placement of controls in automobiles (exotics, bespoke notwithstanding). Tesla moving to a single interface and removing almost all switches is expecting the consumer to forego decades of...
FUNNY Your Base Assumption May Be Wrong. You don't know the actual product Tesla is using. Tesla has an alcantara-like material on the visors, headliner, and door cards. They could all be different alcantara-like materials.
Please provide evidence Tesla is using a trademarked alcantara...
I recall Mobileye did not like how far Tesla was trying to push their technologies given their 'loose' controls, and the appearance of lack of failsafes they felt were needed for Level 3-4 autonomy. Mobileye started getting nervous that Tesla's implementation was going to result in safety...
Door cards are usually handled/produced by a supplier off-site and delivered for integration with the door assemblies. Similar color but it is highly probable Tesla is using an alcantara-like product.

Faux Indignation Personified & Noted
I'm not inclined to accept the vehicle if what you describe would be present and I am having my atty produce addendums to the purchase contract. I don't have the time or inclination to do post repair work on a brand new $56k+ car. We will see if Tesla will accept those addendums before...
I hope Tesla is successful with autonomy but the environment is extremely competitive on a global scale. Several Chinese EV startups with tons of cash 'poached' high-value talent from BMW and it has impacted their BMW Megacity initiative and similar is happening across the technology...
I fall into the latter camp and when mentoring children, I encourage them to use critical thinking which included not listening to what people say TODAY but observe past behavior and most importantly assess motivation (especially when money and property are concerned). Past behavior correlates...
Yes, I believe that this headliner kerfuffle is most likely due to a breakdown somewhere in internal comms, with no bad intent behind it.
I would like to believe @bonnie works for Tesla because (not trying to make this personal) to routinely have the ability to understand/know the motivations...
While many believe this conversation has been overwrought and worn thin, I am glad this event has happen relatively early for Tesla and can be used for good if the company chooses to do so.
Most people who manage corporate brands understand it is hard to put a dollar value on consumer...
What is interesting are the choices Tesla engineers made for suspension dampening, spring rates, and compliance for the Model 3. A new owner recently added that the ride felt less rough when the car was under heavy load (full passengers and luggage).
I keep reminding myself that Tesla is a relatively new and small company who MAY not have the resources and more importantly the right leadership team to do this sort of work at the level of depth and detail found elsewhere in the industry. While the idea of Other the Air (OTA) is seen as a...
Hmmm,,, From where did you get this insight??
When I actually worked in manufacturing for a Fortune 500 company we provided multiple suppliers the same set of specifications to meet because we want the customer experience to be the same regardless of supplier product used. While the supplier...
Thanks for educating the public-at-large and keeping the pronunciation of a word beautiful as Ricardo explains to Letterman decades ago. Class personified....
I can pronounce Cordoba and Corinthian Leather better than Ricardo. I practiced for years to impress the ladies. Saying Vegan Leather sounds so pedestrian in 2018.
Ricardo Montalban - The Master of Pronunciation
Tesla has been in business for more than a decade and if Elon has the mental capacity to plan for a trip to Mars (on a Falcon Heavy rocket),he and his Tesla management team should be able to provide/communicate accurate interior specifications and material changes on the Model 3.
A Sanguine...
Most mainstream builders (I have witnessed Pulte and others) have indicators/signs in their Model Homes for items that are an additional cost option. What you are saying is primarily factually incorrect and why consumers should expect sellers to provide the information clearly and timely...
Every time someone has to rely on the 'general public' to provide clarification on the contents of the PUP it clarifies the root cause of the problem: Tesla choosing to NOT provide clear specifications and pictures for their products consistently and timely on their website (no tweets, no...
I want those who signed contracts and gave non-refundable deposits to get what they expected. If that means Tesla pay for a local customizer to do an alcantara install - so-be-it.
Also, I want Tesla to stop making these sort of rookie mistakes and getting comfortable with taking folks money...
Unfortunately, it appears the frustration is less about the headliner but what feel like obfuscation and poor customer communication on the part of Tesla. They can and should do better because so many customers / employees serve as ambassadors to the brand. This could go bad for Tesla if they...
Ha.......
This should be a turning point for Tesla. The old model of being unclear about specifications and making changes (to orders in-flight) as it suits them should be over. This is sloppy and embarrassing. If 50% of those with reservations held back their configurations until Tesla...
I think your perspective is quite reasonable. I think many people need to / want to not see what Tesla does behind closed doors in a sober fashion. This is about Tesla managing negative circumstances through PR. The change looks hasty and more of a reaction than a planned action.
Some have...
