Ok, you Idaho e-drivers that have received cars in the last few weeks, I have a question, and also just am hoping to hear how it is going for you!
Question: As I read and think about this, and presuming my car comes with the mud flaps and that rear PPF behind the doors, I am thinking I will use doe the nose of the car up to the front edge of the front bonnet. Anyone have a good source for a company that can do that well? And/or what did you end up doing?
Also, how is it going?
Can't help on the PPF.
We've put over 3000 miles on the car since we got it, and it's been just about a month. It came with a wheel alignment issue as well as a trim issue. Required a couple of visits to get those fixed. The trim they fixed yesterday. It is better but not perfect. Not worth addressing and it is likely "in spec". They replaced with a new part.
Over the weekend we went up to central Washington for a family visit. All but 20 of 400 miles on 2 lane.
Lots of inappropriate slowing due to white vehicles in the oncoming lane. It improved when we turned off Autosteer (which is essentially lane keeping assist) and drove with the passenger tires on the fog line. Same thing happened with headlights when it was dark.
We had a handful of phantom slowings, some light, some more like 65 down to 50. No slam on brakes events.
I hear that (when we can get it) software 2022.4.5.17 solves a lot of that.
Driving 400 miles through fast charger desert is interesting. We started out with 100% from McCall and stopped and charged in Lewiston at the Tribe's Casino. That is the only place between Boise and C'd'A with fast charging. They provide a Tesla adapter at the front desk. They have two Chargepoint chargers that have CCS and CHAdeMO connectors, and we used the CHAdeMO. It charged pretty quickly. There's no Mobile Data connection in the parking lot, and I honestly think that they don't actually charge you at all. You need a Chargepoint app on your phone to activate the charger, and it says it is charging 5 cents per kWh, (cheap) but my wife's phone activated it without even signing into the app. So...
Anyway, that's a lifesaver. Their charger is fully solar powered by the way!
Going DOWN from McCall to Lewiston it was no issue on range. Going back UP, we charged to 81% and it was unnerving. Used a lot more range up and we came home with 16%. ABRP at first told is we couldn't do it at all. So we drove back part of the way at 5 mph under the speed limit to conserve range. Next time, 100%. I am pretty sure it would be nearly impossible to get from Lewiston to Boise via that route. You might get to the Donnelly destination charger and then top off (slowly) for the rest of the drive.
We put on studded snow tires for the duration of the winter. Really glad we did since we hit unexpected snow driving over a pass in Washington. The standard tires slip a lot and although the software keeps you going in the right direction, you lose range spinning tires. Not fun where there are no chargers. You'd think that Grand Coulee Dam would at least have a J1772 as a nod to electric cars, but no.
Other than those issues (inappropriate braking necessitating not using Autosteer (I think FSD would be the same unless it is more advanced and dicey range for that one segment) it has been great fun. Car is comfortable overall, but bumpy roads are bumpy.
With all of that, we are really happy we have the car!
