My take.
Tesla Model 3 production is constrained by battery cell supply. SR/SR+ takes less cells to build, so more cars can get delivered by end of quarter. LR AWD has highest profit of cars currently in production, so those get the remaining cells. LR RWD getting fulfilled solely via inventory relocation (up to and including getting cars internationally and transporting back to buyers in the USA).
Here in Charlotte, the sales reps were adamant that if we ordered by 6/9 that the car would be delivered by 6/30. Heard it multiple times from multiple people. Even the LR RWD, which is an exception by nature.
Anyway, I don't exactly believe this people. They are sales folks, they will do whatever to get you to commit and deal with the fall out later.
Last year a family member ordered a TM3 scheduled for May delivery, then pushed all the way back to early July with a firm date. That date was, indeed, not firm and they didnt get the car until mid-July.

2 questions:
- What are the odds Tesla eats the FED rebate delta for post-Jun 30 deliveries?
- What $ about are you out if you return the car before 7 days/1000 miles? Do you get a refund on the destination/doc fee + titling/registration?
#1: Didn't Tesla lower their prices to account for that Fed rebate being halved? Not sure if they will do that again.
#2: I think there's another room regarding returns and refunds. I hope i don't have to do that with mine, IF i ever get it...
Surprise! Online account just updated my delivery date to June 28 and wiped the VIN. So the oddities that are occurring continue...
wow makes me believe someone mistakenly pressed the delivery button for you the first time and now they are just giving you June placeholder dates since they can't undo it. crazy.

Called into the Raleigh store today; my delivery date was pushed back once again from to 06/15; the deliver adviser was actually VERY helpful and spent a lot of time trying to figure stuff out for me. She spoke with the transit / delivery people and the vehicle is indeed in transport and on it's way out here.

I just received a call from the advisor and he told me that since there's 1000+ orders of the LR RWD currently waiting in the US, management has decided to spend a few days to produce the cars to fulfill these orders before the end of the month.

Well, I mean, with that many orders they don't have a choice. Odds are they were waiting for the orders to reach a certain number, then build them over a couple of days. This news is consistent with that.
It was hard to believe that no one had an actual direct line to someone at the factory. Its understandable that sales people wouldn't know this, but someone does.
Cool! If they are producing 900+ cars a day, then that would mean a couple days of retooling or whatever they have to change to do this batch. Seems like not a big deal! I ordered 5/21 and crickets.....

Yeah same exact thing happened to me. Had a VIN, delivery date, and a list of crap to do before I got the car. The date online changed a couple times then poof the VIN disappeared. The only upside is I'm completely ready for the car now.

I actually took delivery of an SR which I ended up returning for defects. But when I had to change the delivery date the VIN disappeared and only the date was there. However the same car was still assigned to me and the VIN came back a couple days later just changing the date blanked it out for a bit.
My refund was processed on 5/28 and I expect to have it next week. I will be placing an order for a LR RWD and seeing if they can get it to me by end of June, if not I will wait for an adjusted inventory model sometime in the next couple months.
