The Costa Mesa delivery and service center is the main delivery hub for all of Orange County, which probably has more Teslas than anywhere other than the Bay Area. When I picked up my car on Thursday, the place was dead. I'd say there were one or two other customers there besides me, and at least 30 Tesla employees standing around. I spent over an hour going over the car to make sure it was OK and nobody seemed the slightest bit bothered about how long I was taking. When I didn't like how one of the door trim pieces lined up, they offered to take it to the service center to fix it. It came back ten minutes later and was fixed perfectly.

So I guess every location is different regarding overall volume. Your experience may vary significantly.
We picked up our second Model 3 at SF and it was dead when compared to picking up our first Model 3.People were picking up their cars but our experience was similar to yours.

We ordered a midrange the day before the plug was pulled and they tried to sell us a 2018 that we rejected. Ended up going with the 2019 LR with AP. I figure the resell on the 2018 vs 2019 about makes up the 3k difference to step up to the LR. Was actually amazed that a car company would try to pawn off a 2018 model 4 months into the next year...Kinda scary that they still had all this inventory left from last year...makes ya wonder...If these guys don't get their sh*t straight they are going to have some hard times ahead when people catch up and there's some real competition this segment offering decent customer service. Our buying process was a real mess.

I took delivery 2 weeks ago in the Boston area of a 3 built in July 2018. 60 miles on the ODO. Where the hell has this car been all that time. I knew it was a 2018 but wasn’t aware it was a July build until we had already started the paperwork. Thankfully the car was perfect. I do feel the process was a little too slick for me. And decided not to reject the car because I was unsure of a delivery date for a 2019 VIN and my trade in price had been settled. If I hadn’t been so damn inpatient I would have sold my trade in for 4K more than I was getting on the trade. Even renting a car while I waited would have probably been net cheaper. What pisses me off is that the delivery advisor couldn’t or wouldn’t give me an exact build date. The car had most likely the one I test drove and also likely had been at the showroom for a long time. As I said thankfully the car is flawless.

The only thing that amazes me is that Tesla doesn’t play the same game with VIN numbers as other manufacturers. Then that car that they tried to “pawn off “ on you built in December 2018 would have carried a 2019 badge.

Now that Teslas are sitting for a while before being sold, Tesla will hopefully adopt this practice of other manufacturers to level the playing field for resale values.

Then you will be absolutely mortified when I tell you that Chevy built in August-December 2018 will likely be a 2019 model. The only thing that amazes me is that Tesla doesn’t play the same game with VIN numbers. Then that car that they tried to “pawn off “ on you built in December 2018 would have carried a 2020 badge.

Now that Teslas are sitting for a while before being sold, Tesla will hopefully adopt this shady practice of other manufacturers to level the playing field for resale values.
Good point. I purchased a 2019 Toyota Avalon last June 2018.

do they only serve US customers or will they do Canadians as well? That's a great rate!
Cannot say for certain if they lend in Canada. You can call our loan officer to ask. This is her contact info:

There are no additional rate discounts for EVs, but you can get an additional .25% off for taking their GAP insurance.

Just more of an argument that they are still floundering at a time when they really should be hitting their stride. Regardless, in 5 years the difference in resale between the 2018 and 2019 will be apparent...Like any other car on the planet. Seems Telsa tries to reinvent the wheel in a number of ways...Like I said, if they don't get some of these things figured out when they have some competition they're going to have some real issues...We're not all iphone mouth breathers. I may of drank a hint of koolaid but I am well aware of the BS I went through. I didn't mention they actually tied my VIN to a "heavily damaged" car after we rejected the 2018. Took about 12 hours to figure that one out. Dollar for dollar, if there are no major unforeseen issues, this is a great car for the money. Was looking at the G70 3.3 TT and a 340i, both of which would of been more than the LR with AP after rebates...Hard to argue that driving itself is not a pretty major selling point...Plus we have cheap electricity at the house. Fingers crossed there are no short term issues with the vehicle.

Delivery date is still 3/26. No trade in and I am financing through Andrews FCU with a rate of 2.84% for 48 months.
Just wanted to post an update. My delivery center is West Palm Beach. I called to get a couple of questions answered and one the specialists helping me said let's check to see where your vehicle is. It was already at the SC. I asked if I could move up my delivery to Monday and they said no problem. I'm set for tomorrow at noon. A little over 24 hours to wait. I swear I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

3/17 - Ordered
3/18 - Got text of tentative delivery for 3/25. Checked website, saw VIN.
3/19 - Called to get status of Car and get MVPA for insurance/loan purposes. Was told car was in CA, and wouldn’t arrive until 3/30. Set delivery appointment for April 1st, as I would be busy on the 29th and 30th. They said they would let me know if it arrives earlier.
3/20 - Emailed asking for RMV-1 form. Radio silence.
3/21 - Called asking for status update and RMV-1 form. In my account I was noted as “out of the country”. Told them that wasn’t the case. ETA of car is 3/26. Set tentative delivery date of 3/27. Later that day my insurance tells me they wanted the forms faxed over, so I emailed the second Tesla contact asking them to do so.
3/22 - Got email reply saying they usually do that closer to delivery. Asked them to see if they can send it over for insurance/loan purposes. Got MVPA signature request email. Meanwhile, my insurance called Tesla twice. The first time, they didn’t see my information at all. The second, they found my info and said they would fax the paperwork over on Monday or Tuesday.

Tesla delivery advisers had to be prodded by me twice to get the RMV1 so they could insure my 3 which I told them I can’t legally drive until this was done.

Well, since my last post, I saw a VIN appear on the Tesla Web site, but it was still listed as a Dedham pick-up, so I called Tesla Dedham. The person I spoke with updated the Tesla database and said that somebody from the delivery team would contact me soon. Now both the VIN and the delivery date have disappeared from my order summary page; it's back to saying I'll get the car "within 2 weeks from order placed date." It'll be interesting to see if I get the same VIN reassigned, or get some other car instead.

Late last night, the same VIN reappeared on my order page along with a new Dedham pick-up date of 3/29. I've tried calling twice but got nothing but voicemail, and no call-back. This is starting to get tiresome. Fortunately, I'm not in any rush to get the car. If it spills past the end of the month and that impacts Tesla's quarterly earnings, it's their own fault, and isn't that big of a deal for me, aside from being an annoyance.

Well, I just got a call 20 min after the car was supposed to be delivered to inform me that it had been damaged in transit. They are currently assessing the damage to determine whether it is going to be faster to wait for that one to be repaired or be paired with a new one. Sigh...

Just learned a couple of things, which I'll pass along: As some reading this might recall, I was initially assigned a VIN for a 2018 model which I said I did not want (also due to the fact that I changed from gray to white exterior). The old VIN remained on my account, but I was assured that it would not prevent me from being matched to a 2019 white/white car. Friday I received a text that my delivery date was 3/29. I was excited, but concerned that this reflected the original 2018 gray car with the old VIN. I called today and learned that, yes, it apparently does. I do not have a VIN assigned to my order (placed 3/07) at this point. I was told it was possible I would be assigned a VIN soon, however, so I am hopeful for that.

Oh... and one other thing; the rep I spoke with at Tesla (who has been very helpful and straightforward in cutting through some of the ambiguities of this process, as well as getting my paint comped) told me that this forum was a mixture of real, honest people sharing their experiences, and also trolls. The rep stated that there are instances in this forum of people claiming to have ordered a car on one day, been assigned a VIN almost immediately, taken delivery, and that when they checked it, it could not have happened. So... the takeaway, I guess, is that we take what we see here with a grain of salt. I know I'm real, and I'm sure most of you are, but not everything we see in this thread is necessarily true or accurate given the nature of things in cyberspace.
