Wiki Model S Delivery Update

So I was scheduled to take delivery of my new S75D tomorrow; it was supposed to arrive at the delivery center yesterday. So yesterday evening I get an email from my DS (who has in general been terrible at communication -- seems par for the course with Tesla) telling me it's been "delayed in transit" and will now arrive at the DC next Saturday. They need a day to do whatever they do to it and they don't deliver on Sundays, so that means Monday delivery for me -- almost a one week delay. So frustrating!

The question that keeps rattling around my brain is -- what kind of "delay in transit" could happen such that (a) my delivery specialist didn't know until it was delayed until the day it was supposed to show up at the delivery center, and (b) the delay was a whole week rather than just a day or two. It seems unlikely for both (a) and (b) to be true. I suspect my DS knew much sooner, or could have known if he'd been paying attention, but just didn't bother.

Can anybody who actually understands how they transport cars comment on what might cause something like this?

Details:
Model S 75D, delivery in PA
Ordered 8/4, confirmed 8/7, prod start 9/1, prod end ??? (MyTesla didn't update to prod complete for a long time; way after my DS gave me a delivery date, so I don't know when it actually left the factory).
Scheduled to arrive at DC 9/17, delayed to 9/23.

So a possible hint is that while my DS told me it was prod complete and in transit a couple of weeks ago, the MyTesla page didn't actually update to prod complete until sometime in the past week (didn't notice exactly when the change happened). Maybe my DS was just full of it all along and the 9/17 date was just bogus from the start? Given my experience with this DS, I wouldn't be surprised.

WOW, after reading these concerns about delivery delays, I'm really concern as I'm schedule for my new Tesla in two weeks. I have not been informed of anything yet from my DS. I reached out to her and no response. I love the car and have been saving up for years and "pulled the trigger" last month.

Sounds like mine MAAAAY be here Sat. You already have one and ordered one for your parents, right? Starting to see a few more on the streets here in BR!

Yeah i've noticed a few more lately. Yeah i begged my dad to get one, said tax incentives would disappear soon plus i wanted the referral prizes haha.

Did they post on you account the production date?

My account only has "Your Tesla is currently in production."

Mine has your tesla in production. DS emailed my parents already scheduling a delivery date of 9/26.

Proud owner, took delivery yesterday. Arrived 30 minutes early, car was "ready" and charging. Here is a quick summary of my experience.

Paperwork - Well organized and very "low key" process. I especially liked handling title/registration/plates "through the mail"; BMV is probably my least favorite place to visit.

Exterior Cleanliness, which had been shipped up from San Antonio, TX to OH. Odometer reads 1245 miles
  • a few water spots on different areas
  • A few "smudges"
  • Plastic covers in Frunk were dusty/dirty
  • Wheel wells not entirely clean
Based on these items, offered free detailing at later date.

Interior
  • Clean, no dusty, no smudges; Tan interior
  • A few places where the rubber seal was deformed, but easily corrected
  • Drivers Headrest, stuck in up position. intermittently worked. DS grabbed service tech-fixed!
  • Included iPhone lightening connector, which was a surprise bonus

Introduction/Explanation of car's technology, behaviors, etc.
  • Really awesome job.
  • Quickly figured out I had already done my own "research", adapted delivery while covering all the details
  • Delay in assignment of car to iPhone APP; this took much longer than expected; 3 hours AFTER taking delivery
Initial "new owner" comments
  • Note, having just purchased a car with a value GREATER than my first house...innate desire to LOVE car
  • Technology is truly outstanding
  • Interior dome lighting - auto option, bugs me lights stay on until car is put in drive or reverse...would prefer a fade to black
  • Interior trunk cover panel - feels a bit cheap, probably because they made it from a very light material
  • Interior truck "body compartment" cover - same as the trunk cover panel
  • Trunk lighting - Inadequate, especially as all surfaces are black
  • Trunk cargo - "Slip and Slide" comes to mind. While the space is "huge", beyond the side compartments...cargo shifting can be an issue
  • Driver profile - LOVE IT, but one modification to SW is needed; easy exit option in which steering wheel retracts, seat moves back, etc. Lexus has this and we NEED it.
  • Adaptive Cruise control - Love it! Especially the ability to increment speed up and down. Very helpful in those pesky 25MPH zones
  • AP 2.0 - @#$% rocks! On way into work this morning (Highway), turned on while I used iPhone to order my Starbucks coffee. Felt so much safer this way.
  • HomeLink - Arrival/Departure automation...cool feature until I was just moving car to the street

You may have felt safe, but you were not safe. AP is not self-driving. It's a driver assist and even if it works well 95% of the time there are situations in which it will literally kill you. Do not use your phone while driving and rely on AP to drive for you. At least one person has already died because of this -- do you want to be next?

Ok, just to be a bit more clear...I didn't "check-out" this morning. I did activate AP on a straight part of highway with zero construction and light traffic. I completely agree, using mobile while driving, no matter what, isn't a good thing. Please, let's not start a rant on this topic, in this thread...

Finally got my delivery date! 9/30 at 1pm if all goes according to plan. (im hoping for some kind of miracle and it gets to westmont sooner) I had sent an email to my DS this morning asking for some kind of info (where exactly was my car etc) was told it's at fremont and was being batched. im slightly annoyed that it will be 3 weeks from down payment to delivery for an inventory car thats been sitting somewhere but I do understand how Tesla's logistics work so i wont complain too bitterly lol. I wouldnt be suprised if it had missed an early batch headed this way by a day or two. Now i'm hoping for no wammies such as missing key fob or any of the late quarter QA stuff i've been seeing on the forums lately. oh and it's being named the "red october"...... (longer than an average sedan, unique propulsion system, and my wife (the real captain) is lithuanian....)
