Wiki Model S Delivery Update

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
When I placed my order on January 15, my DS projected a late March delivery. I thought to myself that those eight or nine weeks will go by quickly - but they don't. What an agonizing wait. Getting the notice today that it is now production is a milestone we are looking forward to. I have seen various posts that the build time is about 5-7 days and then we have to wait through shipping and delivery. For my car it will most likely be ready a few weeks ahead of the original projection. There have been a few other members who have recently posted similar results. This is shaping up to be a good quarter for Tesla and a good quarter for those waiting for their cars.

"Ordered midnight silver 75D on 1/17, confirmed 1/20, VIN 1/25. Expecting late March delivery in Atlanta"
Received today from DA: Your Model S is currently under production and is being built as we speak! We could schedule your delivery for as early as Tuesday, March 20th"
The website is still showing "order has been confirmed and scheduled for production in our factory"

I ordered 1/16, confirmed 1/19, received VIN 2/8. No updates since then.
My previous car was totaled a few months ago. I am without a car until my Model S arrives. Luckily I can work from home as much as needed.
A month ago delivery specialist told me to expect late March.
No email response from delivery specialist nor the guy at the showroom that sold me the car (I emailed them both 2 weeks ago).
I was feeling left out as I'm seeing orders made after mine that seem to be moving faster.
Then I checked the official Telsa forums. There are several orders made 2-3 weeks before mine that are still waiting for updates and haven't even received a VIN in some cases.
Maybe my wait hasn't been too bad just yet.
But it sure would be nice to get an update or see some progress!

Congrats to all those seeing progress on their order! I am managing my jealousy for now. :)

Same here @Goofykiller. My DS isn't the most responsive either. I emailed him Saturday morning, and still don't have a response yet (I realize they're closed on Sunday). I get very irritated with non-responsiveness. I would rather him tell me that he didn't know rather than have complete radio silence.
Totally agree, that is the basis of exceptional client service.

Yeah, I make a living out of improving communication and improving the product development process.
IMHO - this is something that can be scripted and/or manages using a central database (or even an excel doc).

People spending upwards of $150K on a vehicle should not be made to feel like they're left in dark about the progress of their vehicle, especially if there are people who are paid to keep you up to date on it.

Maybe I should just apply to work at Tesla :)

Ordered 12/29/17
Confirmed 1/1/18
VIN received 2/8/18
Latest: DS emailed 2/20/18 to say that I'm "on track for an early March delivery" and that I should fill out my financing forms to get ready. Nothing changed on My Tesla page, but my personal guesstimate (don't jinx it!) is ~March 9th.

On a side note, I got extended seat time in side by side M3 and MS in Walnut Creek, CA Tesla store. Without being able to judge back to back driving experience, I can say that I'm still glad I ordered the MS, mostly for size. It feels more substantial and I will be able to fit my kids three across in the back seat no problem. The M3 does accentuate the need for an MS refresh, but it's still the "big daddy".

Awesome news! I ordered one day right after you from Burlingame. Keeping fingers crossed I get an update soon.
I felt left out, but have now joined the VIN club. Sure feels slow, but we’re getting there.

Ordered 12/29/17
Confirmed 1/1/18
VIN received 2/8/18

She’s a blue 75D with sunroof and EAP headed for Danville, CA (quite close to Fremont factory)
You can't be very far behind, hopefully you will get that "in Production" badge soon. I am hoping that you see it sooner rather than later because I am in line just behind you.

Ordered 01/15/18
Confirmed 01/18/18
VIN received 01/29/18

Also a blue 75D, white interior, EAP, (no sunroof).
Located in South Carolina.

Congrats! What spec? Color combo? What message do you see in my tesla account?

Only 6 days for you to go... Enjoy!

It’s a busy 6 days too lol Electrician Thursday, garage floor epoxy Friday, Work all day Saturday and Honda Classic Sunday lol. I ordered the 75d in pearl white, 21in new turbines (can’t remember the name) kept the glass roof and black interior and added AP. My account has said “Your Tesla has been built and is in transit from the factory. Learn about your Tesla. View walkthrough videos.” for two days before the called me yesterday to schedule delivery for the 26th.

wow, I ordered the pearl white, gray wheels as the one you have now. I went to Geneva last year, my family spent 10 days driving around the whole Switzerland, really loved the place, I can't imagine you drive a Tesla in such a heaven-like place.

Thanks for the kind words. Actually you will not only need imagination as I aim to post and share videos re my Tesla experience on a Youtube channel I just initiated (see link in my profile but no videos posted yet). Hopefully some go pro and drone footage and some feedback on my MS with beautiful Swiss scenery in background as well as reactions to Tesla news. Please feel free to already suscribe on Youtube in anticipation. The more suscribers, the more (useful) pressure I will have to put nice content out there.

I think we're all fortunate to have ordered our Model S with a Feb/March delivery.

If you look at the custom design right now...it now says June delivery.

Wonder why they have jumped from estimating March delivery to June? Normally it changes a month at a time, doesn't it? It even says 1-2 month delivery while choosing Model X or S in the configurator.

Could this be a sign of retooling in the factory and some major updates to the vehicles coming?

I don’t think so. I remember I was looking into getting an S towards the end of December and on my side it showed March. Maybe just too many 3 reservation holders switching over to S like myself ;)
