Also, funny coincidence that I was following a Lucid Air on my way home! I got alongside him on the freeway but he ignored me, so I zoomed away with a big grin on my face 😁

I also decided to take the scenic route back, and went up on Skyline Blvd to test the suspension - absolutely magical! Auto does a decent job, but Sport is really good on the twisties.

In the Advanced suspension mode, I put the damping and compression to the stiffest, and you can definitely feel every bump in the road.

Brakes, on the other hand, are total cr@p. I had to really step on them to get me slowed down enough after a decent straight in preparation of a tight turn, and it was really surprising to me how little bite they have.

Anyway, a few more photos of my Lucid encounter and posing in the woods off Skyline:

Funny about seeing the Lucid Air. It must have been a tester or demo car since they haven't begun deliveries. They have, however, been allowing the auto mag reviews to drive and test though, and we know Lucid is also based in Silicon Valley area.

I picked up the car today! The nightmare delivery process and terrible miscommunication/service I've been dealing with the last several weeks is finally over!

The new bumper they had to put on didn't have the license plate holder :) I've already dropped the car off to the detail shop for ppf/coating/tint. Hoping to get it back next weekend for some racing. I have an 1100hp 3rd gen CTS-V that is a handful but the plaid should be a bit faster and much more usable year round, with less drama and less breaking lol. The V is currently getting its built motor refreshed/rebuilt (3rd time).

First impression from the very short drive I had: I think I'll like the yoke and figured out the blinkers quick. Car feels solid and very comfortable and roomy inside.... could easily fit 4 Biden rallies. The carbon fiber looks great with black interior. The cooled seats might be the best I've experienced.. especially on a day like today with 106+ heat index.

The delivery guy I spoke with documented the steering wheel worm and said he would see what Tesla says about replacement. To my shock, he flat out said MOST of the cars they have received so far DO NOT have the worm, which is the opposite of what I have seen. Interesting.

I'll post more pics after the tint/etc is done.

Great pic

@Izolman: "Glad I've got 5 days of full-time work scheduled between now and delivery, it'll help me keep my mind from fixating on the car LOL."
Will it, tho??
Yes, I'm solo leading a week-long technical training. Believe me, there will not be many brain cells left available to fantasize about the most amazing car I'll have ever driven and I'll get to OWN it LOL.

Finally, I wanted to give a special shoutout to some folks on here who made the wait over last few months much more bearable:

@omarsultan thank you for letting me test drive your car almost 2 months ago to allow me to validate the yoke & suspension, and for all your selfless help to everyone here including myself - online and offline!

@lolachampcar thank you for the moral support by DM and email throughout this painful purchasing process, as well as all your mechanical expertise on wheels/brakes/suspension/etc.!

@DukeofURL I’m so sorry to defect from the red/CF config, but I will always consider you a twin at heart! I know you haven’t taken delivery yet, but you still win the bet against my original config ;)

@2021plaid thank you for the endless positivity and all the likes/loves/laughs!

@Leodoc thank you for running the club for all the newcomers, I will feel welcome and honored to join - especially if you grant me VIP access :)

@jebinc thank you for supporting me in the MSM decision, and all your input on 19” wheels, ceramic costing, wood trim care, trip meters, and other topics!

@OnTheSnap thank you for the PPF & tint shop recommendation and detailed review of their work!

@AnselmDante @Tigers @cwanja and others, thank you for all the funny posts, you’ve had me cracking up and ROFLMAO often

I’m sure I’m forgetting a bunch of you, but you know who you are.

Keep up the good times on here, and see you all around! (don't worry, I’m not going anywhere).

-Marc
Thanks dude, and congrats on getting your car :)

Alright folks, I just got back from my delivery appointment at the Fremont factory.

I ended up accepting delivery for the MSM/wood Plaid I ordered 10 days ago, despite the following issues I found so far:
  • Yoke vein/worm
  • Stubborn grease mark on the right side of the yoke
  • Deep & long (>1 foot) intermittent scratch on roof glass
  • Wrinkle in front passenger seat bolster
  • Scratch on front-left wheel cover
  • Black trim piece under right-rear triangle window lifting
  • Front and rear license plate frames missing
  • All floor mats missing
  • Trunk privacy shelf missing
  • Both trunk cargo covers missing
  • Trunk not closing properly unless manually pushed down
That last one baffled me a bit, and I had to test it at least 3 times to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong.
It's kind of crazy: how does the factory QC not check this simple functionality before releasing a vehicle for delivery?
Anyway, I fixed it myself on the spot by turning the two knobs clockwise a couple of times to screw them in.

On the bright side:
  • Paint job looked really good, no issues I could tell
  • Panel gaps appear to be even, very surprisingly
  • Spoiler seems to be well stuck onto the trunk lid throughout
  • Interior trim is solid, no cracking wood trim or squeaks/rattles
  • No dings in the dash grill that I could tell
I have a lot more combing through the car to verify all the issues others had reported, but it was almost 40ºC (nearly 100ºF) and in the sun at the factory, so I will do that in the comfort of my cool San Francisco garage.

Anyway the delivery specialist said I had 24 hours to document all the issues and submit them through the app as a service request, as it wouldn't have mattered if I reported them to her or anyone at the factory.

Oh and the car had 16 miles on the odometer, which seemed a little high given factory delivery. The white Plaid I saw yesterday only had 6 miles on it, and it was shipped to Lathrop and back.. oh well. The battery was also only 51% charged.

With that, a few photos to share!

@MarcG Congrats on getting the MSM! The paint looks as good as mine. Very good! That roof glass scratch is deep; what’s the fix? All new glass? How does it drive? We need more driving impressions and status of all your other orders! Some here may want to pick one or more of those up!

Same with me - exact same plan. Only reason I got 19” over 21”s. Only good thing I can potentially see out of it is for the extra $1500 once I buy the arachnids is having a second set of rims to put winters on. (But then having second summers…)

Does anyone know if Tesla would update the graphic to the correct wheel type on the driver dashboard if someone upgrades to different Tesla rims? Current new owner interior photos seem to show what the cars came ordered with.
So this is my glass-half-full approach to the summer vs. A/S question: if my 19s are A/S, I'm all set and I'll have to decide between the lesser of two evils, the hub caps or the naked stock 19s, but it won't cost me anything.

OTOH, if they're summers, then I get to buy some kick-a$$ 19" after-market wheels, move the rubber onto them, and just drive my Highlander when it's crappy out. Either way I'll be happy and this is SO FRICKIN' MINOR an issue...

We had the Superleggera—it was violent, loud and fun on the track. It wasn’t as fun on a daily basis. I understand what you mean about the obnoxiousness in that mode (but it’s so frigging fun)! You may enjoy one of these track day types of thing—you get the one day experience without the long term expense.

Nice garage and plate. What's with the Defender?

Yeah this is the second time I see a Lucid in about a month. They're definitely testing them around the Bay Area.

Thanks dude, and congrats on getting your car :)
Thanks Omar! I hope you're enjoying yours as much as you did on day 1 :)

Thanks! No idea what the fix is on the roof glass scratch, the service center will have to resolve it.

The car drove fantastic, though I have to admit: I was expecting more oomph on acceleration 🙃 maybe it was because of the low SoC, but I did feel the car pulling pretty equally at different speeds. It's charging at home now, I'll test again tomorrow of course.

As for my other orders, I just cancelled them all. Only the white Plaid with black/CF interior had a VIN, and it's sitting in Colma. The other two orders did not get a VIN yet, as the EDDs were second half of September.

Picked up my plaid today and the quality looks impeccable. Really nice. The white with black wheels and carbon fiber spoiler with black interior is stellar. I think biggest thing so far in driving is that the yoke is totally not a big deal. Parked a few times and no issues. Not sure what the fuss is about. People fear change. Ha.

Do you like the touch buttons? That's the thing that I foresee annoying me the most, from the limited time I've spent in a friend's car. Why did it have to be touch buttons?

Full ppf, ceramic, tint all done. Time to enjoy the Plaid!

RE: the acceleration ...sounds like you had it in "Chill" mode or that middle mode -- Sport maybe; not Plaid mode. IDK but that just doesn't sounds right to me. 🤔

Okay so... I like the molded mud flaps from Taptes, they should look a lot better than the flat plastic ones. I placed an order a couple days ago so I can be ready in the event my 11 month MS order finally arrives, gets built, falls out of the sky, whatever. I have been emailing them regarding the discrepancy on their model year fit, this was their reply today...

I emailed them to cancel my order and they obliged within 12 hours.

What model/options?
My Plaid white black CF 19s is now Oct 6-26. Down from Sept which was down from Aug.

For me this is it, I either get the car before Oct 26 or I just cancel. And if the stupid luxury tax passes, it might be it for the Model S. I really don’t know what to do but have no intention of paying extra taxes on top of extreme taxes we already pay.
Yeah, hope that works out for you. Extortionists going to tax. Least we can do is mitigate with a swift delivery.

LR, White Ext. Black Int. 21" wheels ordered early July.
