NHTSA does not pre-approve anything--manufacturers self-certify compliance with FMVSS--if there are questions they can ask for a waiver, a clarification or a change to the regs.Frankly I'm still kind of astonished that NHTSA approved the stalkless steering yolk, there are so many impracticalities with it.
Cross posting here.
Not verified. This same post is showing up all over TMC and other forums. Yeah, just this one post. Do we think Tesla just released only one 2022 VIN?In case anyone missed it, we have a winner! First reported NF VIN, that is not a joke....

Looks to be January-February delivery. Do you get VINs this early? Also Tesla’s 2022 VIN decoder was filed on 9/29 with NHTSA which would require 60 day advance notice. It seems that should be a December build at the earliest?Edit: not my car nor my screenshot. See original Reddit post.
Tesla just updated their site.
Model S Long Range is now just "Model S"
Model 3 Standard Range is now just "Model 3"
Interesting. Must be the new 2022 naming scheme.
My “Design details” page still says Long RangeMy order page is also updated. Guess I'm just getting a MS, not a MS LR.
Yep, my order page says Model S. They also updated their purchase page.My order page is also updated. Guess I'm just getting a MS, not a MS LR.
Put on tinfoil hat. Will Tesla come out with a 4680 Long Range soon? Making the current "LR MS" the standard range. My order page is also updated. Guess I'm just getting a MS, not a MS LR.
Been watching that page like a hawk looking for any updates. Good catch. In case you missed it, Tesla finally updated the "active noise cancellation" text to say "Active Road Noise Reduction" on the model s page today. Maybe that means we are closer to getting it?
Everything is possible. However, with at least 6 month production already sold and a raised price I don’t see how the MS would get the coveted new batteries. They’re selling all they can build, with more margin and on the old batteries! Plus, there are tons of money still waiting to be made with the 600,000+ pre-orders for the CT + Semi and Roadster that all need the 4680.Put on tinfoil hat. Like the yoke?Same. Don't trust them at all. Waiting for them to take away another feature lol

I’m so ****ing mad/disappointed. WHY DO THEY KEEP DOING THIS?
