Tesla Model 3 in Australia

It’s pathetic how Tesla is treating Perth with delivery experiences like this, we paid delivery fee like everyone else, but get no delivery specialist or shiny shop to pick up the second most expensive purchase in our lives from.
Instead a dirt filled yard and a person with no knowledge is our reward.
Surely Tesla could have put all the cars in an empty warehouse and arranged pickup appointments from location with a delivery specialist there for a 3 to 4 week period when bulk of deliveries will take place.

You’re right Dakah3, I would have thought Tesla should send a delivery specialist out for a week or so to deliver to Perth buyers. Not all model 3 purchasers are tech minded and it’s only good customer relations to organise a good handover. Andygen21 that wasn’t a great introduction to your long awaited new car, sorry you had to go through that experience but hopefully you’re now thrilled with your new vehicle and are enjoying the ride!
Dropping off a new car from a flatbed truck wasn’t how I imagined we would take possession of the most expensive car we’ve ever bought.

If it’s bad in Perth imagine how it must be in Darwin. Or Alice.... oh well at least the cars are being delivered I’m sure they will sort the rest out as vehicle numbers expand in each area. We are early adopters people, so as disappointing as things might be at times, we chose this. It will improve over time, have faith.

Someone took delivery of a blue sr+ in Perth yesterday, and here in Melbourne I’m still waiting for mine. The fact that any got to Perth so fast is in some ways miraculous.

I saw my first Model 3 in the wild this morning coming to work. Black SR+.
Very nice!!!!!

I decided I was going to follow it for a while.... [now we are really talking about stalking. ;)] ....but he pulled into a business driveway 200 metres further on. I was very disappointed.

One thing I did notice, the rear blinker lights are really really small. Like only 4 or 5 cm's. Really cool and different!

I've got a couple of $3 cables (one Micro USB, one Lightning) on the way from eBay to test in my M3. If they happen to fit (they're braided, so may not fit through the routing channels easily), I'll post them here. Would be nice to have wireless charging phones, but neither mine nor the mrs are capable and I don't think I'll be replacing our phones just for that.

Thanks Barnaby, I appreciate it.

They said they'll look for opportunities to bring the date forward, so I'm hoping as some point I'll get a better call.

Just hoping it's not due to an issue they've found with the car or something, I don't want a lemon!
Hi Random206, sorry to hear about the delay. Not sure if it makes you feel any better but your car might be like one I spotted at the service centre yesterday. On the suggestion of a long time Tesla owner and being close by at the time, I visited the service centre (Perth) just to say hi. He also mentioned if they weren't busy they sometimes attend to small issues on the spot. On arrival there was another blue M3 but with a nasty graze on its front right fender (ok, ok, I should have taken a photo of damage and vin)...looks just like what you would get from a mishap with shipping container, or grazing a wall. Now this might have been an owner accident already but I don't think any blue aero wheels were delivered last week in Perth(??), just 3 blue M3P+. For the 38 odd M3 that had arrived in Perth, I have seen two with significant transport damage (red aero wheel charge port I reported on previous post and now this blue one, plus another one that had its charge port open from the trip across Oz). That is 2 out of 38 with transport damage visible from afar. Chances are there are probably more with damage that Autonexus can spot up close. So statistically for Perth at least, there is a greater than one in 19, (probably closer to 1 in 10) chance of getting that dreaded phone call with a delay.

I would guess Autonexus just calls Tesla and just reports damage they see to VIN x. Tesla then automatically delays delivery by 3 weeks or so. One week to allow transport to their service centre and asses damages, one week for parts shipment and one week to rectify. Since Tesla haven't seen the car when they get the call from the third party and thus they can't feed this info to us the owners, all they can do is delay by what they think is a realistic timeframe to rectify.

According to the guy who received his car 9 days earlier than everyone else in Perth, about Sept 7th (the red M3P+ one spotted with picture posted way back in this forum), every single M3 in Oz (at least in the first load) has had the 12V battery issue and all have been swapped out. This red M3P+ was delivered before they were aware of the problem and was delivered with the problem. Owner confirmed this and that Tesla had allowed him to drive vehicle as long as not get below 20% charge. 12V battery has since been replaced. 2nd M3 in Perth was delivered Sept 16th so for Perth, battery swap is delaying delivery by about 9 days.

So, for those getting pushed out 4-5 weeks, it could be there is cosmetic damage + battery. If fixed earlier than estimated (maybe service can fix things without parts etc) you might be bumped forward again (Like some are reporting). It would still be nice if Tesla just told everyone that theres been shipping damaged spotted which is the reason for the delay. However, I think because delivery team is swamped and they have no info at the time they are notified from Autonexus, they simply can't tell you.

The good news is the car, despite these delays and small cosmetic defects is awesome. We've had ours a week now and driving it hard and not a single issue with anything that counts. Also, can confirm for Perth at least, the service team is really enthusiastic and friendly and there is at least three of them here. Wife and I left with the impression that nothing was too small and everything would be dealt with and any issues that arrive in the future will be sorted with the same enthusiasm. Older Tesla owners I've talked to also confirm the service team here is great.

Don't know if that helps or not with your frustration with the delays but it really is worth the wait and I don't think you'll get a lemon.

Oh no, I got the delivery call on 9/9 for delivery 7 weeks later! (end of October)
What the heck happened to my car in transit? Did they forget to put the park brake on while shipping? Did all the panels get scratched while they were swapping the 12V battery in a puddle of everyone's brake fluid?

Delivery will be interesting, I'll be on the lookout for evidence of panel work.

+1 (you're not alone in the delay)

RE: This is a Cross Post from the new thread Buying FSD after delivery not available online - discuss there not here.

but here's what I posted to grab everybody's attention:

This new thread just made me think something... why are people ordering FSD pre-delivery? Comparing pricing with and without FSD on the Tesla website, Luxury Car Tax, and Stamp Duty are charged on FSD - It's just a software license! Ideally those shouldn't apply - but they do!

So if you're buying a LR AWD or Performance model, the FSD license alone adds THOUSANDS of $$ in LCT and Stamp Duty.

Why not buy the FSD license after purchase. I was just reading the LCT section on ATO website and there's nothing there about adding stuff after the vehicle is delivered, LCT appears to apply on the value of the vehicle at the time of delivery or import.

So those people who have ordered FSD pre-delivery would be thousands of $$ better off to cancel their FSD now - and purchase it separately after delivery.

I'm not a lawyer - not an accountant... so don't take my word for it.

But in the spreadsheet I see 24 non SR+ buyers with FSD before delivery selected as yes. Might be worth considering for those people.

BTW FSD on SR+ is $650 odd LCT too so there's benefit there, but nothing compared to the $3k+ difference in LCT on a LR AWD or Performance.

Has anybody seriously analysed this?? Personally I feel paying stamp duty and LCT on a software license is a bit nuts!

Don't reply here - Discuss in other thread...
