Tesla Supercharger network

The supercharging location at the factory is expanding. There will be eight new supercharging stalls. Three will follow along the current line of superchargers towards the main factory building. One will occupy a spot across from all the other supercharging stalls. The other four will occupy the next four parking spots along the fence line following along towards the main entrance to the factory. So we will soon have 15 in a row and one across the lot close to entry to the Factor design studio! Awesome. Hummmm.... how will Blueshift denote the expansion on supercharge.info? How about a red dot with an E in it? ...or maybe a red dot with a + sign? List your ideas here..... I'm sure someone will think of a great icon for representing the expansion. I am at the factory now watching the construction that is underway so it IS definitely happening. Four of the new supercharging pedestals are up and curing in their foundations. The four that will expand down the current fence line will start once the current four are completed. PHOTOS ON THE 'FREMONT SUPERCHARGER ANNOUNCEMENT' THREAD

update:14:34PST On the other side of the fence line to the north they are working on the pads for superchargers themselves.

Progress! There was nothing up yesterday when I stopped by, just dirt and workmen. And now there are four. This is a good thing -- the last two times I stopped in I had to wait five minutes or so for a spot to free up. And I've seen up to four cars waiting while I was charging.

Turn the red blob into a red balloon with a number in it?

Even if it takes a while to get Superchargers on that route, someone in the area really needs to talk to the management at Harrah's Metropolis to get them on the Destination Charging program and put in some 80-Amp HPWC's.

I contacted the general manager, Brad Hirsch, today and sent him information. If he responds by filling out the form, I will connect him with Tesla's destination charging team:

Hi Brad,

It was a pleasure talking to you today. As promised, here are the links to some information about the Tesla Destination Charging program of which I spoke.

A simple description: "Destination Charging" is a name for Tesla's program to give free or reduced-price high-powered charging equipment for use with Tesla's Model S and Model X cars to businesses who agree to install and maintain them for mutual customers' use. These chargers can recharge a Model S with the larger 85 kWh battery from empty in 4-8 hours, depending upon the car's configuration; I imagine you can already see how that might benefit Harrah's. You would designate a few parking spots for Tesla cars, somewhere that is convenient for the electricians to install it. Because you have valet service, they could be taught how to plug in and charge the cars for the customers. Your expense would be the installation costs for a couple of 100-amp 240V or 208V circuits (depending upon what your plant can provide), and ongoing electricity - to fill a Model S from completely empty at commercial rates here in the midwest is generally about $5. Harrah's Metropolis would be listed as a destination charging spot on Tesla's map for owners who are looking for places to stop and charge.

So far, approximately 70,000 Model S cars are on the road globally, and Tesla will produce roughly 50,000 more vehicles this year.

Tesla's "supercharger" network - special stations along the road that can give a Model S almost 200 miles of charge in 40 minutes for free - is being built out over the next few years. They have approximately 150 stations today, heading to double that by the end of 2016 (see the link below). Right now, though, they only have planned 2015 locations in Effingham, IL and Nashville, TN. The Metropolis/Paducah area would be a necessary stop on a trip down to Florida for many people in the midwest. Your hotel is a convenient place to stay the night on a road trip, and leave the next morning with a full charge on the way to drivers' destinations.

The next steps for you would be to fill out Tesla's "destination charging" program web form - the link is below. The local Tesla service facility is excited about the potential for Harrah's to be on the list of destination charging spots. Along with a few other owners from the St. Louis area, I would travel to Metropolis with my car at the successful completion of the project and we'd love to highlight the installation to other owners on several different forums so they know where they can stop.

My interest in this: as a customer of Tesla, I would welcome any additional charging locations that help free up electric-only travel. Should you have any more questions, give me a call at <redacted> or just drop me an e-mail. Thank you for your consideration.

Here are some links for you:

Here is a recent article from the Motley Fool on Tesla's destination charging network:: Meet Tesla Motors, Inc.'s "Destination Charging" -- the Fast-Growing Network Beyond Superchargers (TSLA)

Tesla's web site is Tesla Motors | Premium Electric Vehicles

Their planned network of "superchargers" is located here: Supercharger | Tesla Motors

The map of all Tesla locations - sales, service, superchargers, and destination chargers: Find Us | Tesla Motors

And finally, the web form required for the next steps is located here: Destination Charging

I hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you and my best to you,

Very well done, and a well written letter!

Would you mind if other TMC'ers extract from your letter for reaching out to other potential "Destination Charging" locations?

I believe that even with a built out Supercharger network, "Destination Charging" stops will be very valuable and add to the convenience of travel with a Tesla, not to mention helping those pioneering Roadsters that have Henry's Can SR!

By all means -- that's the reason I posted it. I think destination charging is perfect for Harrah's - the 3-4 hours of charging needed to get between Effingham and Nashville seems perfect for pulling people into the casino. :)

At the risk of spamming threads -- as I wrote in more detail in the New England form, Tesla is getting cold feet about finishing up the negotiations/planning for the Portland, Maine SC site. Personally, I would greatly appreciate your expressions of support for this site, sent to Tesla ([email protected] or direct contacts you may have). It's a great location in the city, in the heart of Old Port, and Portland is strategically located for access to many destinations in Maine.

Thank you for your support,
Robert

As a former Maine resident, with family (with an X reservation) still in Portland, I totally agree with Robert. Downtown (Old City) Portland is a great place and Maine needs superchargers. Auburn, MA to Portland is quite 'doable' and Portland opens up a good deal of Maine.

mpzg=miles per zero gallons. I thought the acronym fit for gasoline users to get an idea of just how much of a savings it is for Tesla Model S owners. In almost two years I have a little over 43,000 mpzg. Amazing to be traveling on the energy from sunlight. I have solar at home and use superchargers almost exclusively when on the road. Tesla is doing it right! The mpzg is great for the dollar savings of course, but, it's having full mobility with zero CO2 that really saves our little blue marble! That's Tesla's real goal!
