Next week he'll stick a small mirror on the wheel arch and use the cameras for tyre wear and traction control to save on hardware

Car-jacking prevention. It's a fairly standard option in most cars.

I didn't say it was an effective option, or that it was impervious to over-active imaginations.

If you live in South Africa it gives you a few extra seconds to either floor it or unlock your glove box and get the Colt 45 out!!

To protect vulnerable people such as women. It has been known for an attacker to jump in the passenger side and force the owner to drive away

So even with your "broken" car computer it is still downloading and applying the updates? Boo! Mine downloads the ones it's sent (last I saw was 2021.40.6, with 2 others witnessed before) then fails some check somewhere and silently doesn't offer the chance to install so I'm still stuck on 2021.12.25.6 - which doesn't even feature in TeslaFi's list of installed versions anymore (closest is 2021.12.25.7)!
