I'm sure they'll work fine in daylight..I hate to think how buggy/rubbish any matrix functionality will be if they ever get round to writing the software for it

Absolutely spot on. I think there are a lot of people who do not understand the concept of matrix lights, probably because they have never used them. AHB is not matrix. So just standard LED headlamps that have basic on and off functionality then?
I disagree. Matrix lights means they can actually turn off the relevant pixels when in operation, Tesla’s lights can’t do that, ergo, they are not matrix.
Matrix headlights require software and hardware, you can’t have matrix headlights without both. Tesla may have the hardware but they don’t have the software so they aren’t matrix, just LED headlights.
No manufacturer markets or has ever marketed ‘matrix lights’ as anything other than the lights that can actually dim elements of the high beam light pattern to not blind other vehicles when keeping the rest of the high beam on.
Everything else is just a led headlight. Tesla’s headlights are not bad as LED headlights but that doesn’t make them matrix.
They might one say write the software to make them matrix but I wouldn’t hold your breath, until then they are not matrix because they don’t and can’t function as matrix lights.
Have you not seen the light show where they use the matrix headlights to display/move "TESLA" in front of the car? There seems to be a presumption that the M3, and presumably other Teslas , now come with matrix lights that are not yet enabled. I haven’t actually seen any hard evidence of this and would be delighted if someone could point me to an authoritative source, not just speculation on a forum.
We've both told you that you're confused on your understandingSo just standard LED headlamps that have basic on and off functionality then?

Maybe enabling more features for the holidays?Software version 2022.44.25.20 was just detected as Downloading on a 2021 Tesla Model Y Long Range in Pennsylvania United States. Follow the pending updates at TeslaFi.com Firmware Tracker
44.25 versions currently on about 80% of Teslafi monitored cars. Looks like a wide release to me.2022.44 .25.1,.2,.3 never looked to have gone really wide release
I don’t know who Tesla has employed. Given how little information comes out from Tesla I’m surprised that you know this.Maybe they should stop hiring grads who specialise in AI or computer science and start hiring engineers who know how to program automotive headlights.
Matrix lights have a specific hardware design where light is from a matrix of pixels. Newer Tesla lights are using a matrix of pixels. Tesla lights are matrix lights. Those are indisputable facts.Absolutely spot on. I think there are a lot of people who do not understand the concept of matrix lights, probably because they have never used them. AHB is not matrix.
Amen. Tedious. This thread is supposed to be about software version 2022.44 and none of this is relevant.
One universal solution
With 100 individually addressable pixels, PixCell LED complies with diverse global regulations and can be applied to headlamps in various countries at lower cost, using minimal software adjustments for desired beam patterns.
The PixCell LED module can be used in low-beam, high-beam, and ADB lighting for different headlamps.
Their marketing material seems to suggest it could be used for blocking out oncoming cars. Not as fancy as some other brands with much higher pixel densities, but still technically possible. That still requires Tesla to dedicate development hours to it, though…Tesla matrix are a relatively (these days) low resolution 100px Samsung design I think (pixcell) in a Hella unit. primarily the sales material for those units are for ‘global’ firmware allowing for different patterns for different local legal requirements. They don’t seem to push the more advanced vehicle shadowing matrix usage for those. While possible in a basic way, you’d perhaps want a higher resolution for better vehicle blocking.
Would be better than nothing though..

I’m glad you don’t see how I can compare two cars in my ownership. Thanks for letting me that it would be impossible.Given that Tesla lights aren’t even matrix yet I don’t see how you can even begin to compare the two. Even after the latest updates, which have after more than three years finally improved AHB on my M3, the matrix lights on my A6 are still in a different league. Tesla have still got a long way to go before they get even close.
Tesla are the manufacturer of party tricks, which they seem to prioritise over real world meaningful improvements to their cars.
Nice, quite a few of those on supported on the Octopus Electroverse app too.Lots of third party chargers now showing in the car.
fancy a bet......I'm sure they'll work fine in daylight..
