Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Actually the issue is not that it locks up. The issue is that all the electronics including the AC come on even though all I'm doing is getting bags out of the trunk. The electronics should remain off until I sit in the driver's seat ready to drive.
This behavior may be a consequence of third-row seating. You know you're just getting the groceries out of the back, but you might be loading in your two toddlers (who might well want to have the music and A/C).

Congratulations apacheguy! Why yes, as a matter of fact, I am enjoying my Model S. Good to see we're getting more Teslas in the OC. You and Tesla229 and I are going to have to do a meetup.

I agree, the car doesn't need to come to life just from opening the trunk.

Richard & Apacheguy,

I'm taking delivery tomorrow morning, at 10:00! I'm on board with a meetup. Let's set up a time & place.....

They could allow the owner to set these as options (some on a per-driver basis) that lets you really personalize your S.

I would guess that at least part of that is more people want to schedule for delivery on the weekend.

Picking it up after work doesn't really seem to do justice to the Delivery Specialist or the car and taking a day off on the short notice you get is often not possible. Weekend delivery is really the best in most cases.

I'm just having it delivered to work. There are plenty of tech geeks in the office park who might notice too.

It is set for Halloween too. Spoooooky delivery time!

Of course I've got my laptop at home this weekend and need to get a bit ahead on next week's deliverables so I can spend a few hours geeking out with the car.

Took this picture today at Bellevue Square in the Seattle, Washington. VIN#'s were 400, 401, 537 and 540. My car (VIN #532, Regular Sig #267) just finished up it's final factory inspection last night (Friday) and should be delivered to Seattle as soon as they can coordinate the transportation up here. So I'm fairly confident I'll be getting the car sometime next week. My originally quoted delivery window was October 8-22nd, so it isn't really that far off the end of the original window. Maybe about a week or less, not to bad!

Seems we're seeing some momentum. Do we get to keep the car covers?!

Woah, that's a bunch of VINs in the 700's. I think we're going to see our first 800+ report this weekend! They're definitely pushing to start the production models right around the earnings call so they can report some good news to everyone. That call is going to be *very* interesting.

Called it ;)

So, that's VIN 821 assigned. That means ~180 cars need to be made next week to be able to start general production in time for the conference call on Monday. I think they're going to do it!

Sig 1092 in final inspection but no VIN yet .....

@joefee - how do you know that you are in final inspection? I'm Sig 1199 with a "current delivery schedule" bumped to 11/16-11/30. My specialist said getting a VIN assigned would be a "red flag prior to production". When I emailed him last week asking for my VIN and he gave me tne bumped date and no VIN.

I am a WA customer as well.

I went with my friend today as he picked up his gorgeous Pearl White Signature Performance Model S, with silver 21" wheels, pano roof, and white leather interior with CF trim. What a stunner! I don't know his sequence number and I didn't ask his permission to post his VIN, but he's between 450 and 500.

The factory tour was awesome!! Although it was 1:30pm on a Saturday, the factory was very definitely in operation. We were able to see body panels being stamped on the massive Schuler press, and the robotic lines welding body frames together. Workers from the seating contractor were in their leased area building seats, and there were Tesla crews working on interiors. The plastics section was producing parts, and we saw people doing finish quality inspections on painted front bumper/fascia parts. The dyno was running and cars were on the bamboo floor in the final inspection section.

I saw one part with a tag on it for VIN 950-something -- that was the highest number I saw. There were dozens of cars in late stages of production, on their wheels and either having final items completed or getting inspections done. I couldn't get close enough to see VINs on them, although there were a few cars with little cones on top showing their VINs, and they were in the upper 700's.

I don't doubt that I saw parts of my car in the stamping shop, as there were definitely hundreds of cars worth of stamped aluminum waiting for assembly, neatly arrayed on racks.

Fit & finish on my friend's car was outstanding. My concerns about choosing white are over. He did have the "chin" cubby below the 17" screen, but did not receive the parcel shelf. We found one area of soft trim near one of the windows that was a little loose, and the Delivery Specialist flagged it for correction during the first service call (we didn't want to delay things).

Overall, it was an absolutely awesome day. I got goosebumps seeing these gorgeous cars being built. I can hardly wait to receive mine.
