Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I had an existing Model S Performance with 21” wheels and FSD order in - spoke to my rep today at Tesla who informed me that he can ‘convert’ the order to a Plaid version - there is a price increase but discounted to 8K due to the fact that the order was in.

Also was told that delivery is likely early March.

Will update as more comes in

Nice. $8k seems like a reasonable concession for the performance model since price change to Plaid is pushing $30k...

8K between the old Performance and the new Plaid?? That's much more than the $2k discount others have been mentioning... Is this not consistent person to person?

Considering the Plaid is about 40k more than the model with the 2k discount and FSD...yeah 8k sounds about right for an equivalent discount.

Well I assumed Plaid meant Plaid, not Plaid+. He said he only had to pay $8000 to go from Performance w/FSD to Plaid (I'm assuming with FSD also - dropping FSD isn't like-for-like.) That sounds extremely generous if true, and not what others have been hearing.

I guess what i'm saying is most reports have shown a flat $2,000 discount, regardless of model. I was curious if they're actually giving a bigger discount for people who had ordered Performance to go to Plaid - but all sources I've heard said they're not apparently discounting more on the plaid vs the LR. If someone had an order in for the Performance at $107k with FSD, Plaid would be $129k with FSD, so $22k difference between the orders, and $2k discount would mean a $20k price increase, not $8k... The poster saying he was only paying $8k to go from Performance w/FSD ($107k) to Plaid w/FSD ($129k) would mean they're giving Performance orders a $14k discount to go to Plaid, which sounds highly unlikely.

I just spoke with Tesla rep from TX to whom I was connected after calling the immediate assistance number on my account page. According to him, the maximum discount for my Model S (12/5/20 order date) will be $2k. That makes my price increase $26,500 for Plaid w/Red exterior, White interior, FSD. I have until Feb 28 to decide how to go forward. After that the increase will be $28,500. Might switch to LR and have CF wrap over the interior walnut. Kinda bummed out.

Did you read it?
Just sent a message to my Tesla rep about our order for our Tesla S Long Range Plus that has been on order since early January.

He said: "Timeframe for all Model S vehicles are March at the moment. Since you ordered previously, you will have delivery priority. Additionally, pricing for the Model S did increase. Price for the Long Range for the Model S increased to $80k (previous started at $70k) with the refreshed look/interior changes. Your Model S will be sitting at $92k with the self-driving. Would that work with you?"

Um. I thought the order agreement locks in the price?

I got a text from my SA stating they are offering me a 2k credit...blahh...i wont my set price...sigh

He did tell me before i did 100 dollar payment they if price goes up might adjust price up

I have decided to go with the Long Range in lieu of my previously ordered Performance.
As I see it, here are some upsides.
  1. None of my other investments have returned 20x return from $100 spent in December 2020 ($2k discount)
  2. I was already on the fence between the Performance model over the Long Range+. The huge price increase made my choice clear.
  3. I saved $26,500 by choosing the new LR instead of the new Plaid.
  4. I have previously had a couple of cars that did 0-60 in 2.8 sec. It wears off pretty quickly. 3.1 is not that far off.
  5. I will get actual benefit from the 25 miles improvement in range (412 compared to 387 for previous Performance model.
  6. If I really want the CF interior bits, I can get them wrapped for a lot less than the $40k difference in price.
  7. I get the updated interior, heat pump (per the annual report), new chassis/battery architecture (better cooling, lighter weight), newer M3/Y motor design, cooled seats, improved sound system, improved glass roof, improved aerodynamics (.208 Cd), upgraded displays, 3rd rear seat display, door pockets, 10 TF gaming computer (not that I'll need it) and heated windshield. (Have I missed anything?)
  8. Steering yoke. Of course this is polarizing, but I like it. It is aspirational to future technology and likely employs variable ratio steering related to speed That's nothing new, it's been around since the 80's. What may be new is the range of ratios from very high at parking lot speeds to quite low at highway speed. I have had cars with very slow steering (50's and 60's classics) and very quick ratio (Ariel Atom and F1000 race car). Having a car that can manage both extremes will be a great step forward.
  9. Stalkless column. I choose to see this as a step forward as well. It may take an old codger like me a while to adapt, but so did all the changes that have come down the pike since the horse and buggy. If I can handle a hand clutch, paddle shifted Formula car in order to gain performance, I think this will work out well for me just fine.
  10. I'm ready to try out FSD, even if it's limited for the time being. I'm looking forward to the future and what it may bring and can't think of anyone who is taking us more quickly in that direction than Mr. Musk.
Hopefully I haven't made any factual errors in this list. Opinions may differ to any degree. Freedom of choice is a great and valuable thing!

Love the write up. I'm with you on LR vs. Plaid, the markup just doesn't seem practical although I would love the 2 seconds. I didn't think the extra second was worth the increase...15k maybe. I'm glad you shared your experience with cars in that range of speeds. FSD is tough for me. I don't travel a hell of a lot and have a short commute to work, so it seems that the opportunity to use it would not be worth the 10k for me. I'm likely going to get the subscription and if I like it then I'll make the investment...still on the fence with it.

Has anyone seen the updated Model S in their Tesla account yet? I still show the pre-refresh Model S I ordered in October in my account. I pushed off delivery because of all the rumors of a refresh. The page shows the old purchase agreement, but all the registration, payment, and trade-in details are gone. I talked with my sales rep yesterday. She gave me the same $2k discount everyone has been mentioning. She originally told me I had to change it myself on my account. I was unable to so she submitted a ticket to someone. She then told me I am good, but nothing has changed in the account. I am worried my order has not been actually converted to the new model. I don't want to miss a cut-off and have to wait another few months. I am curious what others are seeing happen to their orders.

I had the same conversation with a Tesla rep and I changed the configuration on my order while they were on the phone with me. It shows the correct car and the full price. I was told that the $2k discount would show on my final purchase agreement.

Sounds like something definitely went wrong with your order update process.

Here is a photo of my F1000 cockpit. Quick ratio steering with a steering wheel similar in concept to new Model S "Yoke"
I found it very easy to adapt to it. At the end of a day at the track, I got back into my F350 dually to haul it home. Never had a problem going from one steering wheel and steering ration to another and back again.
