Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Just got an update email from George Blankenship!

Dear Douglas,

We have some great news to share with you today - it's time to begin Signature Model S deliveries in Canada!

There were a few requirements we had to meet prior to importing Model S into Canada, including label and language additions to meet bilingual requirements as well as the addition of a vehicle immobilizer - a second level of security required on all cars in Canada. We have finalized these requirements and submitted for Transport Canada's approval to proceed. As a result, production of Canadian Signature Model S can now begin!

Canadian Signature cars are planned to enter production in the next two to three weeks. We will contact you via email at the point when your car progresses to "End-of-Line" at the factory. That email will begin your delivery process and is designed to confirm registration details and collect further information regarding your delivery. We will contact you shortly after we receive this information to begin scheduling your delivery. Our goal is to schedule a time that is convenient for you while delivering Model S to your doorstep as soon as possible. Our Delivery Experience Specialists make sure your delivery event is fun, thorough and leaves you with an in-depth understanding of your new car. It's time to start thinking about where you'd like to take delivery - we'll be contacting you soon!

Delivering Model S to Canada is a very important milestone for Tesla. This is our first step outside the U.S. with Model S and the beginning of our international rollout. We could not have achieved this milestone without you and we appreciate your continued support and passion for our products. We were thrilled last week to have Model S named AUTOMOBILE Magazine's 2013 Automobile of the Year and are proud to have you as one of the first customers in Canada to drive our award-winning car. We look forward to getting you behind the wheel!

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

George Blankenship

A friend with a Sig reservation (not on the forums) in Florida has a delivery window of 11/21 to 12/5. No VIN as of yet. Not sure what his Sig# is, but it's definitely over 1000. Given the time to deliver to Florida, the car will have to be built by the end of the month.

This aligns fairly well with GeorgeB's estimate of Canadian Sigs beginning production in 2-3 weeks.

Thank goodness there's no right-to-left language involved; Tesla will need to do some heavy-duty translation and layout rework to sell in Israel and parts of the Middle East!

Speaking from my own experience, yep I can vouch for that. Even if their system was designed with localization in mind, there is no shortage of issues that come up, even with a simple Euro language. Throw some non-Western scripts (Asia, Russia) and right-to-left in the mix, then you are really talking...

Well, that's particularly odd, because people have been saying the marketing cars are going to be bunched into VINs 1200-1399. Maybe your car will be a little bit "pre-owned" ;)

Hah.

I got it from one of the DSes here in So. Fla, and he read the whole thing off to me (and the check-digit checks out).

Just called an OE guy in PA and asked him to confirm, to prove I'm not dreaming. He did confirm that I am in production. But I have never spoken with this particular OE guy before, so the cynical New Yorker in me is still worried!

Given that the Canadian Signatures are delayed a few weeks, they must be moving on to building at least the R's.

Cross post from TM Forum:

I just contacted the Ownership Experience Team regarding my reservation (P983, Performance 85, Pearl White, tan leather, 19" wheels, most options except child seats & twin charger). I was concerned about both tax planning and travel plans for mid-December. The rep said that the car would be ready possibly by the end of this month, and definitely by mid-December. He was actually quite confident. I was so excited that I forgot to ask him whether he was talking about completion or delivery, but expect it was the former.
I know that people have received very conflicting information when asking this question, but I have to say that I was impressed by how definite he was.

Ron, I have it on excellent authority that production cars start with VIN 12xx. No need to mope.
Looking at aviators99's VIN: 5YJSA1DN4CFP01275 I thought Sig's had an "S" before the final numbers? If so and they're changing the "S" to a "P" for GP cars (R's and P's) then why wouldn't they start over? As for Marketing cars, aren't they S012xx?

This is all very confusing and very exciting at the same time. Still hoping for delivery before Thanksgiving here.
