Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I took delivery of Sig 551, VIN 446 yesterday at the factory. We took the factory tour, and even on a Sunday it looked like there were several hundred employees doing final assembly and inspections. Elon rode by on a bicycle and waved, it was quite Fellini-esque.

It came with the dashboard chin installed, which seemed to surprise my delivery specialist.

My due bill includes:
* HPWC
* Rear seats
* Final floor mats (it came with blank black front mats, none in the rear)
* Rubbing out scratches in the clear coat noticed by my delivery specialist

Sig Perf
Sig Red
Tan Interior
Pano Roof
Rear Seats (missing)

So far the car is damn fast, the user interface intuitive, and the handling excellent. I have not been a big fan of the Signature experience, but taking the factory tour made me remember that we signature holders are doing something greater than just buying a car.

I reached out to Michael, my Delivery Specialist, and he actually returned my call while I was still leaving my message for him to call me! Now, that's what I call FAST RESPONSE! He told me that my car is in End-of-Line Inspection and should be on a truck soon to the Costa Mesa Service Center! Sequence #229, VIN 518, Sig Red Performance, Tan Interior.

Quick update. Sig #2 (VIN 288) was delivered today! It only took 3 years and 8 months...

You realize that in a boardroom somewhere in CA, Elon Musk is waving a copy of this graph around, and saying "We run the most expensive manufacturing and customer suite software money can buy, and none of it produces me a graph as effective or accurate as this TMC member BMEK comes up with, using sampling data from TMC members instead of our actual internal figures!!!!"

That made me LOL, and after a long day at work and a crying 3 year old, thanks for that!

Well, after reaching out earlier, I just got the disappointing, yet not unexpected, news that my delivery window has been pushed back to 11/14-11/28. As expected, I can rule out by thanksgiving.

It's also a bit annoying that I've reached out several times to change my color and each time the general message is that things are too far along for that... It doesn't seem like the car has entered production yet, so I guess there has to be some other logistical reason, but sheesh, talk about insult to injury. "Sorry, can't change your config, you're SO close!" ... Woops, not September, mid October. Sorry, late October. Sorry, mid to late November.

My guess is they are now wildly under-promising, given there was a parts delay (and I guess your car was missing that part) and now they are ensuring they aren't wrong again. Are you picking up or having it delivered somewhere? It seems (as one might expect) delivery is nearly 2 weeks sooner if you pick up.

Considering my original paperwork said September with a wink and a nudge for August and now we're talking November, I'm a bit past giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming they're planning to pull some surprise out of their hat.
