Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Just to add data to the cause:

  • Order confirmed 8/20- 75D
  • At time of order and confirmation the delivery estimate on the design studio was "Late September".
  • After order confirmation the "mytesla" page estimates "Late September - October".
  • Unsolicited estimate from the delivery specialist is:
    • Scheduled to go into production the week of September 11th.
    • Estimated delivery by the end of September.
  • Delivery region: Ohio
I'm taking these estimates with a big grain of salt as that seems awfully quick, but I'll remain cautiously optimistic....

I'm in Ontario, Canada and my situation is exactly like your's. Confirmed on 8/16. DS said production will start week of September 11 and I should have the car before end of September. Staying optimistic.

You need remember what time of the quarter you ordered in. You placed your order late in the quarter so they are trying to get as many as possible delivered by end of Sept. When I ordered they were making all the oversea cars so they had time to ship.
I confirmed on July 3, production 8/17, finished 8/20, delivery window as of today Sept 6-20. My DS says he doesn't see it happening before the 6th.
I ordered a 75D to be picked up in Chicago. I was hoping to stay away from the end of the quarter rush.

I was able to snag a "New Inventory" that was in the front of the production line compared to my original order (Same exact configuration too). Got a call from my OA today and did the swap. Car finished production today and is in inspection.

So because of this I'll be looking to get my car sooner in the next 2 weeks now and not have to pay for the delivery charge. Which is awesome.

Wow, that is amazing. Very good. How did you even know this car was coming off the line?

My OA called me and told me. In fact after my order being confirmed back on August 1st, he mentioned he would be on the lookout for NI cars in the meantime if I wanted him to. I said sure, if nothing pops up then no big deal I'll just continue on with my order.

3 weeks later. I get a call today saying he discovered one literally finishing production today off the line and would be originally on its way to a Texas store as a test drive car after it gets sent to the shipping yards. Asked me if I wanted to switch up. Same new spec car and everything. I said yeah sure sounds great. My Tesla Page got updated with this new car and got a new VIN and I guess I got a new Delivery Specialist too. It's currently in inspection and any day now I should be getting a call from my DS about scheduling a day for pickup/delivery.

It was easier for me to swap because I got a black/black car which are pretty common supposedly. So in case anyone out there wants to get a new Model S order sooner. Perhaps consider calling your OA and you can mention my story if you want about being on the lookout for a NI car with the exact same specs as yours.

If I am following the logic correctly, the order cars are being built is all about when it can be off the line and delivered to you before EOQ. I am picking up in Fremont, CA and I know have a delivery date of 9/28, goes into production on 9/19. I ordered on 8/10. Dates have been confirmed with my DM and I have them in writing since I need to book flights for my wife and I to pick it up.

I would not put that much weight into what your ds has "confirmed". There can be server all factors that might affect your delivery and those can be impossible to predict and frankly out of your ds' hands. Not saying that you won't get it then or even earlier! But just FYI in case

I agree, and had to have a manger send me a mail stating they would cover flight changes if 9/28 wasn't the delivery date. I don't think I can do much else to protect myself, but don't want to buy tickets a few days before.

New to the forum here. Ordered S75D on 8/20. Site showed late September delivery. Also was told by OA that any custom builds have to be ordered by 8/20 to get a September delivery in NJ. The S75D confirmed on 8/23. But now, the site shows an October-early November delivery. I'd like to take a September delivery to take advantage of the 0.99% financing which ends in September. In order to get that rate, you have to take delivery then.

Any one else in this situation? Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Good afternoon.
This is my first post on this forum, though I have relied on your collective expertise in guiding me towards the decision to purchase an MS 75D. My wife and I just returned from the newly opened Richmond VA Tesla showroom and service center where we experienced a very delightful and informative sales presentation. The store was quite crowded as it officially opened yesterday, yet we were treated by Marco and Cyrus as if we were the only ones in the store. Marco submitted an order for a dark grey metallic 75D with cream leather interior and 19" wheels. At this point I did not opt for the autopilot as I feel I can upgrade at any time. He was in a hurry to get my order in as the .99% APR financing disappears on 30 September 2017 as a final delivery date. That being said, if you tender a credit application on 30 September, it is valid for 30 days so long as you accept delivery within that time period. After that, he was unsure as to what the new APR would be. Maybe as high as 2.25% APR.
Knowing that a Tesla ordered today may not be delivered until late October, he searched his data base for "inventory" vehicles. That was very kind of him as he wanted me to have the car I ordered with the .99% APR. He found a Dark grey metallic 75D MS with 50 miles in Alabama that was produced in late June and it had everything in the car I ordered plus the premium sound, tan leather (which I liked and was in my 70 Chevelle super sport), and the sub zero package. According to Marco, it lacked the smart suspension which I wanted because of the slight incline of my driveway. He is bringing a coil spring 75D by the house on Monday to make sure that it can clear my driveway without that annoying plastic against concrete sound.
My question to you all is: is it wise to go with the June production vehicle and hope that it has all the updates that would normally come with a custom MS produced in October? I want the most up to date firmware/software, but I'm not sure if all of that can be upgraded to the June inventory car.
Thanks in advance for your help and I am looking forward to becoming part of the Tesla family.

My understanding is the thinking at this point is that while you will get the latest and greatest firmware/software updates pushed to your car OTA, cars produced prior to August 21st may not have upgraded hardware (HW 2.5) see this thread: HW2.5 capabilities.

Sounds like you may need to choose between getting the exact car you want including air suspension and latest hardware vs. getting the low APR.

That being said, there's no telling what will happen with the APR. I've read posts from people saying it will stay the same after September but also heard of sales people saying it might go up.
