Wiki Model S Delivery Update

"More challenges than expected in developing plaid Model S, the new version of model S/X with revised interior, battery pack, internal electronics, PS5 level entertainment system, a lot of issues encountered, took quite a bit of development and make sure the new battery is safe. Trying to get all the details settled in the cars for the past few months. Making refinements and want start delivering by probably next month. Expecting high volume model S's in Q3. As we ramp out demand for the S/X will be quite high. We're going to aim to produce 2k S/X per week. It's a great car. Cost us a little less to produce but is a superior product"

- Elon's summary
Thank you and well done.

Given this, sounds like early adopters should expect some significant growing pains with the first generation of the new design, whenever the heck we actually get them.

Now we know what happened 3 months ago.
  • Elon to engineers in January: "We need to deliver S & X refresh models this quarter so I can announce it at the earnings call"
  • Engineers to Elon: "But Elon, we just have prototypes and are far from completing all our designs, let alone testing!"
  • Elon: "You have one month. Get it done"
  • Engineers: "..."

Sure, but you'd think that is something they test early in the design process, not after you have announced the car :)
Totally agree, just trying to pinpoint what might be wrong with the battery. The cooling is mostly "stolen" from 3/Y. The only new thing shooooould be the power draw, unless they're worried about the new chemistry in the smaller cylinder cells.

I heard this as "making sure the factory is safe"
That's what I heard. There's a lotttttt of permits about fire safety and egress plans for people movement like the plastics factory. Maybe it could be that fire played a bigger role in overall safety measures they had to implement.
