Does it really feel that much more spacious than the 3?
It doesn't feel like crazy S class level or Lexus LS500 level, but it's very good. At the very very least as good or better than the E class. I'd put it as better. And IMO, the backseat experience is better, as there is more foot space under the seat, and the back seats are more comfortable. Also, the floor isn't as high as the 3, so your legs aren't in your chest as much as they are in the 3.

OK - Forgive me father, I am here to REPENT for my SINS!

TLDR: I got fed up and tired of thinking about the Model S and I just decided to blow some money to drive one (from Turo). I had to go about two hours away from my den and the only thing available was a Plaid with 19s.

Let's just start off by saying this... THIS *sugar* SHOULDNT BE LEGAL KIDS. MY GODDDDD.

The first time I floored it I:

i: blacked out
ii. laughed so freaking hard I nearly wrecked this poor peacock's freaking car!
iii. had the realization that life is too short to be responsible with money

Tesla has ruined my life. I'll never be able to enjoy roller coasters again. It was like for the first time I was truly alive. I damn near called my doctor to cancel my Viagra ON THE SPOT!

OK OK so with the acceleration out of the way - I love the damn screens. Lucid calls it an ipad on wheels? Screw Lucid.

BBS - Big Beautiful Screens, that's what I call em. I love how responsive the center one is, how quick the apps runs. How it can actually hear my roar and navigate to places.

The yoke. Much love baby. This is hands down top 3 thing of this car. Feels like Im driving a ferrari, except its quieter, faster (and handles better, screw you ferrari!).

The car's cabin is pretty quiet on the 19s. Not really sure what would make it more silent at this point. AFAIK this peacock didnt have ARNR but I dont care. Also, the stereo system sounds pretty much the same as the peasant teslas, not sure what some of you are talking about. Hearing loss is my guess! (snicker, snicker).

The car's build was decent, though not amazing. This peacock got their car just a week ago and decided to let dumbasses from the internet like me drive it because, they need money...? (want to share the joy of Tesla?) I just decided screw it. If its good enough, its good enough (I love my torturer I know).

Why did I do this? Well because I thought about all of these other EVs coming out and there's something wrong with each of them. Crappy range. Crappy infotainment systems, crappy apps, crappy dealers, supports jeff bezos, etc. Every time I asked myself what I would change it was basically just turning it in to the model S.

WHERE DOES THAT LEAVE OLE' TIGERS?! Well, my peasantmobile is still on hold. I want it. I need it. But I also want that tilting screen, new tail lights and new headlights so might as well see if Tesla is going to update them soon.

Regardless, let the pain and suffering begin! IM BACK BABY, IM BACK!

You are mostly right about the sound system. I was one who mentioned earlier that the Plaid's sound system sounds great. Slightly more spatial than the Model 3 but very close to the Model 3's premium audio. However, far better than an EQS 580 with the Burmester Speakers.

On a side note : The Y doesn't sound nearly as good as the Model 3 simply because it seems the 3's system was tuned for the 3's cabin. In the Y, the same system sounds a bit more "bloated" presumably due to same placement but differently sized cabin and listening position in the Y.

In fact I can say the same about my 2020 Model X. Which sounds considerably different too.
So far the 3 and the S are the best sounding even if the systems are shared across the lineup (with the S having a few more speakers over the 3 ofcourse).

Wow a little acceleration fixed all the build quality and reliability issues! Wow!

Welcome (back) to the dark side.

did everyone's EDD just change to "TBD". Seems like I'm not the only one as both my orders just went to TBD.

Yup. Mine was March 18th-31st. And it just switched to TBD this afternoon. My guess is some system that it uses to get that information went down and it defaults to TBD...or something major is going on and they pulled a bunch of our estimates.

Mine just did. It’s funny that I had mentally prepared myself to put my order on hold to wait for new headlights and as soon as I thought maybe I had a VIN my mind just went to “gimme gimme gimme!”

Yup. Now it's back (the EDD). Did not change for me.

So now that I'm near a keyboard, I wanted to vomit my experiences yesterday and today about the car. Feel free to skip, or put on a work out video.
1) Yesterday DCU came through very quickly - I smartly decided to have the check sent to Tesla per the MVPA address. There was a real chance the physical check wouldn't have made it to me on time as the overnight has been taking up to 3 business days, and I was slated to pick up tomorrow.
2) I let my service center know what was going on - and once I had the scan of the check and tracking number (i forwarded both emails, along with the docusign from DCU) the service center told me, "good to go"
3) they didn't push for me to get the car earlier, but when i expressed interest, they said they could move me an hour earlier Friday. Friday? 2 days? not if you're part of this forum....so once they told me I was good, and I had some cancellations for my afternoon, and they said their latest pickup was 4pm that day and it was abotu 1:15pm, I asked can i pick it up now? and i gave my cell and asked to call me if no good.
4) I got my jacket on pretty quickly and zipped out the door. they called on my way to warn me might take 30 minutes to get the car ready, and I was fine with that as I drove faster.
5) BTW, I dreaded anything happening to the Benz on the way there - that would have f'd up the trade in. Nope, no problems :)
6) I get to the dealership like a giddy school girl, and see a beautiful red S, and more importantly, a gorgeous blue. The sun was actually out, and it was magnificent. and the shiny tires looked great. But i could easily see Pzero. that was a problem.
7) I had trouble parking the Benz, that place was jammed to the gills! new cars, inventory, etc. but was able to email that if that is my car and it has summer tires we have a real problem (doesn't affect this aspect, but we have 2 snows coming up, today and saturday, and it's flurrying now)
8) I get out, and therefore don't remove my benz plates. I did delete stuff from the navigation, garage door openers, etc. and had the thing cleaned out except for my "transfer bag" - EZ Pass, insurance card, etc.
9) long story short, I wouldn't sign anything. and I wasn't playing chicken (though I kept thinking tires might only be $1,500) - at the end of the day, they ended up taking the wheels off of a new car that wasn't delivered yet, and put them on mine. I asked them (not in an accusing way) how could Tesla send these to the northeast? they were also flabbergasted and said the car was probably originally intended for warm climates. They also mentioned they saw my prior emails, etc. about all seasons (I made that clear out of the gate)
10) side note - that red also had summer tires.
11) Once I had to wait for the tire swap, I signed the papers, went to the Benz, took off the plates, surrendered my registration and keys, and chilled about 30 minutes. I accepted the app "delivery" and it unlocked all sorts of goodness I'm still playing with.
11) lesson - a) stick to your guns and b) if you don't do your homework, they won't warn you it's the wrong tires, etc. - which is frankly not cool.
Finale - I have a service appointment at my office parking lot for monday for the console issue that i bet many have and don't notice - my neighbor is getting a new console and I likely will as well - there's a bottom shelf, and when you close the cover, the light goes on and when you fully open the cover the light goes out. reverse what it should be doing. if they never fixed it i wouldn't really car, but hey, new car and all that....
I'll write my impressions on another thread (that's what I do) but all in all, for those waiting - I have not seen anyone say it wasn't worth it (unless their car was an absolute clunker)
This will take a ton of time to get used to. I drove home like a white knuckle. I can't do most things on the car yet (at least not efficiently while driving, etc.) but I can see in 2 weeks I'll be a touch screen ninja.
Again, for those waiting patiently or impatiently,
1) it's a car. and it's only a car.
2) for me the biggest annoyance or fear was that i was forgotten in the tesla system
3) there's a LOT of negative stuff here. not saying negative people, but yeah, if my new car had damage, or wasnt' put together well, i'd be p'od, but I think most people make more noise when there's a problem then when things are good.
4) the long you wait, the more stuff will likely be improved or fixed. I think the quality control was poor in June, again mine was FLAWLESS. I did look. I still can't notice glass distortion (if it's there I can't see it). Paint defects? If there too small for me to see. And I'm NOT giving them a hall pass. My buddy's LR in August had crappy rubber trim sticking out of the window. I looked for that. nope, flawless. door handles, gaps, etc.

good luck to those waiting, hang in there. Try not to think about conspiracy theories. and yes, i'd like new headlights. but these are fine. As good as my benz? problably not. Better than my wife's lexus? you bet.

I'm happy to try to answer any questions I can whether on the forum or through a PM, and I plan to lurk here a bit longer as an attempt to give back; this and the other delivery forums were great "therapy" but at times I think they may have done more harm than good. Yes, I've seen newer orders get their cars first. Is it a conspiracy? I don't think so, I think it's logistics and luck of the draw - if you can't pick up and a later order can, and you are in a different area than that later order and the carr is "right there" yeah, I think they'll send to the one who can accept quickly. that sort of thing.
On the light issue in the console. I believe 50% have this issue. We are working it in another discussion. What caught my eye was you mention your neighbor had to have the console replaced to fix it. Feels extreme and I was hoping for a simpler fix. I am actually going in for second service to address this and a couple other items.

Sonogagun… and I mean that in the nicest of terms :)

Public service announcement.
Whatever you do, don’t buy FSD with your Plaid! That fvcking score has totally wrecked my driving experience.

Plaid!? What plaid! I drive around in chill mode hoping to get selected! I would really like to drive it like I stole it, but… 😞

Those fvcking sadistic sons of britches at Tesla deserve to get some bad STD for this!

Trying to fix that? With Tesla, that’s a feature not a bug!

Tilting screen would be completely pointless and unnecessary, nothing about the visual experience will chan

His Plaid had to get towed - they replaced both rear drive units, and he texted me either their quote or what he paraphrased (i don't remember) that it is the wiring harness which can't be replaced so they'll replace the whole console.
sounds crazy to me.
i built a 3d printer (voron 2.4) and there was a lot of discussion about the end stop switch and you have to wire it normally closed (as i recall) as a safety thing, versus the normally open option (i might have that backwards).
Anyway, with the voron or any other simple switch if it has extra terminals, one for no and one for nc, you could just desolder and resolder and bob's yer uncle.
not sure why they can't do that with the center console.
similarly, if it was software controlled, just flip a bit. but i'm guessing it's not.
again, if he didn't mention, i would likely not have noticed. that is literally the only thing "wrong" i could find with the car.
if there's glass distortion, i can't see it.
paint defects? i still can't see it.

Taking delivery this morning and have a question for those of you who have done the touchless thing - I've seen a few videos of this and it appears that you can't get in the car without hitting the "accept delivery" button in the Tesla app (which lets you pair phone with the car), is this true? If so, how do you check over the interior for major flaws that might be worth rejecting the car for? I assume when you hit that button, there's no going back. No?

Also, curious if the process is the same for home delivery. At first I wasn't worried about this, figuring if they show up in the car, surely it'll be unlocked and I can comb over it to my hearts content without hitting that button, but I'm not certain. Could be that he shows up, gets out of the car and locks the doors so it's the same process? Dunno.

Aside: my youngest son (8) is a huge Tesla fan, and he was more excited this morning than he was on Christmas. Woke me up at 0630 to remind me to wear my Cybertruck shirt so we would match. It's a t-shirt too...not ideal with the brisk 16 deg weather we have right now!!
