I had my first supercharging experience today, just because I could, at Broadway. I was the only Tesla there when I plugged in, and was flabbergasted when the screen indicated I would reach my target charge level in only 15 minutes!
I went off to the shops and while checking out some jeans I got the notification charging was complete. I looked at the App and saw 3 of the chargers were now occupied... so with the risk that a 4th car turning up would trigger idle fees, I hotfooted it back to the carpark and by the time I got there a 4th car was indeed plugged in.
A couple of minutes later I got the invoice and yep... I made it with only 2 minutes to spare (3 mins idle time, charge waived).
Then of course I had to move the car - and the only way to do that is exit the car park and re-enter, which is super annoying. Then, after finishing shopping about 40 minutes later, when I put my ticket into the boom gate, it wouldn’t let me out, saying $7 was due.
According to Broadway’s parking rules
“When a car re-enters within 1 hour, additional charges will apply. Total time in the car park will be accumulated”. I pushed the call button and the charge was waived (total parking time was well under 2 the hour free limit) but boy what a nuisance.
Morals of the story (old hands would already know this):
- Don’t supercharge unless you have to (I did this purely for a learning experience)
- Don’t supercharge at Broadway unless you have to!
Apart from this, I’m very impressed with the rate at which Superchargers mainline the battery
