Ah, well, back into the snake pit.
So, I'll be the first to admit that on any given day, on any given drive, I'm pretty much hammering away on that video button; five or so times when I'm taking the interstates, ten or 15 when on local drives. So, yesterday, on the way in on local roads: The usual 10-15 hits on the video including a couple of interventions. This one spot where one comes over the brow of a hill, going from one lane to three, and the car needs to get into that center lane; nope, intervention time. Oh, well.
On the way back, however, Zero Interventions or video button hits.
- Local road into a T-junction with a blinking red light and need to turn left. When I had driver's ed, back in the day, a blinking red was the equivalent of a stop sign. Every Single Time I'd hit this intersection on a left, the car would stop, jerk the wheel back and forth, and freeze, with or without traffic. Gassing it would get the car to actually go through, it'd be lined up with the correct lane, and it would still stay stuck for 30 feet or so, then come to its senses and start moving. This time: Came to a halt. Crept up a bit. No traffic. And.. it powered up and took the left. About 20 seconds at the intersection, wouldn't have done it if there was somebody behind me, but I've waited longer before and Nothing Happened.
- All the rest of the way home: 20-odd miles. Two stop lights with protected left turns into the interstate on-ramp, a seriously heavy-duty merger from one interstate to another, an off-ramp to major local road with a bad merger and a light, a couple more lights, then a left turn, then home. I usually have to take over at least once, with a couple of, "that's stupid" video icon hits. This time, nothing.
It doesn't happen often; and I thought, given the vagaries of 69.2.3 and the previous releases, that it would take a major release to get through that first blinking red light in one piece, but it did it.
This morning it was back to the 10-15 hits on the video button, so it's not like it's suddenly started acting massively better or anything. Improved over the last two releases, still braking in inadvertent spots, yeah.
As to those who think the End Will Never Come: I still have serious hopes that Tesla will get there. We'll see.
